What is José Mourinho’s 2-2-4-2? Well it’s a unique formation and set-up built around the idea of man-marking. On paper it appeared to be a standard 4-2-3-1, and glancing at it on the pitch, United were lined up in a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2. But 2-2-4-2 needs to be defined differently, because it plays differently.

For the pre-season training, set tactic and match tactics as very high in match preparation. Once you reach 100% familiarity with the tactic, switch to balanced high and attacking movement in match preparation. After this, plug and play I guess.

This is the best FM17 tactic I've ever created.





One Tip: Use many substitutions (rotate a lot) to keep the squad fresh! The players run a lot in this tactic, but that's why you pay them!!

I made this tactic a few years into my West Ham save after struggling to break the top 4 due to inconsistency and getting some very poor results against teams at the wrong end of the table. I thought i needed more creativity, more chances and ultimatly more goals!



in my most recent season, 2024/25, i went unbeaten in all competitions and scored a total of 130 league goals





In addition to scoring lots of goals this tactic restricted the opposition to very few shots, no matter how good the team.

Leonardo Jardim is a Portuguese football manager, currently in charge of French club AS Monaco FC.

In 2001, aged only 27, he started his manager career, acting as assistant to local A.D. Camacha.

Non-English players are no longer allowed to play in English competitions. All non-English players have been released from their clubs. Players with England as a second nationality can still play in England.

This is an attacking tactic, works for all levels of teams.



I've tried it with AC Milan and in my second season I went to the Champions League final with a team slightly above average, but I lost to Manchester United.



I also signed Andre Gray for the AC Milan side and in his first season, he scored 25 goals in Seria A.

I went through a season almost unbeaten with Barcelona but lost to Villareal and Atletico. I also did the double with the Barcelona team.

Even though Takis Lemonis has left Olympiacos this summer, in this tactic you will notice the tiki-taka, attacking based football that Takis Lemonis utilized in Olympiacos last season.

During his period of managing Olympiacos he won the Greek Super League, got knocked out of the Greek cup semifinals over AEK Athens 2-2 on aggregate (AEK Athens progress because of the away goal.) and reached the round of 16 in the Europa League which he got knocked out by Besiktas 5-2 on aggregate.

I have made a whole new kind of super league. Almost all other Superleagues are made up by leagues, where the teams are grouped by their reputation, this one is different because it is build up so the whole top league from the 34 top countries in Europe. So it is a League of Leagues pyramid.

This is how it is build up:

Premier Elite League:

48 teams from Spain and Germany. Divided into 2 groups with 24 teams in each. Each team only plays each other once, and then the top 6 from both groups goes into a champion’s playoff. Teams 1 and 2 in both groups step in 2. Round, and the team’s 3-6...

Introduction

This Cruyff and Guardiola inspired tactic is forged on the basis of fluid possession control and utilisation of positional overloading and underloading creating numerical superiority, which can prove to be of devastating effect. This, paired with compact high line pressing out of possession in order regain the ball quickly and thereby limit the transitional phase, allows a constant stream of chances to be created and for control of the match to be achieved. I had doubts about releasing this version, since is not a new version but an update of the last one.
