Yes, FM Scout Weekly is back, and it’s not going anywhere soon. Myself, pompeyblue will now be the regular host alongside Josh_MU bringing you a roundup each and every week of all the best Football Manager stories on the site that didn’t qualify for a Story of the Month nomination. We will be rotating between ourselves each and will aim to get out each article every Monday. So, let’s get going with the roundup of 6th-13th July 2014.
This week’s featured stories:
AaronHJFT96’s Liverpool, You'll Never Walk Alone!
P-KIDDY’s Sporting: The Indomitus
LFC’s Southampton F.C. - The Rebuild
Nonesuch’s O Renascimento — A Flamengo Story
pokarioboy’s Brisbane Roar FC - Rise of the Roar

With Liverpool of the back of a fantastic season and the World Cup all done and dusted, the return to club football was on the agenda with Brendan Rodgers’ side facing the task of going one better than the previous campaign. The prospect of playing in the Champions League again lay ahead, and with the signings of Ryan Gauld, Alessandro Florenzi and Neven Subotic, who knows what’s in store for The Reds?
AaronHJFT96 is back with another story on the site and has returned to use his supported club, Liverpool. Despite the odd grammatical errors, Aaron’s updates are fairly well written but it’s the layout which makes it so attractive. His ‘Nealesque’ presentation with the use of BBCodes is easy on the eye and his graphics are also neat to view. If Aaron can keep up this quality and be sure to stay commited to the story, then keep your eye on this story for a future contender of Story of the Month.

With the aim to continue Sporting’s progression and top Portuguese football once more, newly appointed Lisbon manager Marco Silva has no easy task on his hands. Rivals Benfica and Porto not only have bigger name players in their squad, but more financial resources too. However, it’s their youth academy were much of the club’s pride is restored and many fans hold their hopes on these youngsters as well as the experienced members of team and Silva’s signings, to lead the club back to glory.
P-KIDDY is no stranger to story success. Having won two consecutive Story of the Month titles for two different stories, just this year, he certainly knows how to write a good story for all readers to enjoy and he is already serving up a treat with his latest work using Sporting Lisbon. His presentation is always very neat, and more recently his inclusion of graphics has improved the story that much more. That bit more detail and there is no doubt at all, that this story will be one of the front contenders for a SOTM nomination.

With the departure of former manager Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur as well as several key players leaving the club, things are certainly looking grim for Southampton. However, new manager Ronald Koeman is determined not to let that trouble him. With the addition of new faces such as Eduardo Vargas, Maximillian Biester and Ben Davies, the Saints seem to be on their way forward despite everything that has gone on around the club during the summer. It has proven to be otherwise however, and with The Saints lingering in a lowly 15th place combined with a dispute over finances the club have made haste in dispensing of Koeman’s services. What will happen for the club and Koeman will be interesting to say the least and if the story will continue is another matter but it is still a good read and something you will want to catch up on.
As was mentioned, with the sacking of Ronald Koeman this story may not last all too much longer but regardless LFC gains plaudits from myself for the updates themselves. His layout/presentation is to be admired, very realistic and journalist like too as well as his graphics for his update style. The tidy and stylish template is quick to view and shows results very neatly. However with all stories, advice can be offered and personally I believe the inclusion of a monthly review section to his results graphic could take the story that one step further and propel it closer to SOTM recognition.

Rui Pinheiro is a rising star in football management and is looking for his first challenge in management. Where has this challenge emerged from? South America, Brazil, Flamengo. Success and stability is what all the supporters want, as well as a return to the heights of the 1980’s, and Pinheiro is the man who has been targeted to bring this. With his first press conference and the player meeting out of the way, expectation is high and so is the buzz that a new dawn is arriving, at least the media sees it that way. What’s in store for the readers, well we hope it will be a hell of a journey.
You may be questioning my decision here. A story that has only just started a few days ago, only 4 updates in, has been featured in FMSW. Well, I believe that this story is already showing plenty of promise. Nonesuch has in fact only very recently joined the site and this is his first story. Yet the quality of writing and content has been impressive so far and surely he will only continue to develop his writing skills as he becomes a more established member. I wish Nonesuch all the best for his time at FMScout, as in my opinion his story could go onto become one which is very popular and successful.

With Mike Mulvey expectedly resigning from his position of manager of Brisbane Roar, a new manager was in need of appointment quickly. Graham Arnold looked set on becoming the new boss, before a twist in the tale saw Under 21 coach Faisal Hamza hired instead. The new man has taken Roar by storm however, and in December sit top of the league. With success though comes interest from other clubs, and the departure of the clubs assistant manager, Hamza’s good friend and fellow former U21 coach Mark has made things all that much different. They will now be looking to hold on and need their players to keep up the good form to make sure the title heads to Brisbane.
pokarioboy is another (relatively) new member here on FMScout and is new to story writing too, but so far his story with Brisbane Roar has enticed many readers. His style is unique, combining good quality of writing, with some nice graphics and neat presentation of updates. His personal style of writing is also very enjoyable to read in particular. This is definitely a story I am very interested at the moment, and is one to follow closely as it is already a good read and can continue to develop as it progresses too.

So that is our round-up of FM Stories for this week. I hope that you enjoyed this and if your story was included take any feedback on board, as to how you can improve your technique. I am by no means saying I am a good story writer myself and instead am just offering some advice, so don’t take it badly if you feel against what I have said as remember it is not anyone else’s opinion it is just mine. We all enjoy reading these stories and plenty of others, as they are all good for their own reasons. Be sure to keep writing, working hard and your story will also be included in FMSW and maybe even might get a future Story of the Month nomination!
