    Southampton vs Manchester United
    Premier League, 2015-16
    Date: Saturday, 23 January, 2016
    Time: 15:00 BST
    Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester

Manchester United look to maintain their pressure on the top four on Saturday when they play host to a Southampton side who have turned their form around over the past two games.

The Saints had lost eight of 10 in all competitions before comfortable back-to-back victories. Ronald Koeman's side beat Watford 2-0 before thrashing West Brom 3-0 at St Mary's last weekend.

United came away from Anfield with a 1-0 win thanks to a Wayne Rooney strike in what remained a below par performance from the Red Devils.

Louis van Gaal's side are unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches but have only won one of their last four at Old Trafford. If you are betting on the weekend's fixtures, the odds favour a United win although given their home performances of late, it's likely to be a tight affair. You can bet daily on any football match through William Hill or look long-term and bet on whether United will finish in the top four - or, as LVG thinks - come close to winning the league.

    Team News

Phil Jones has yet to make a full recovery meaning van Gaal continues to be without a number of defenders, with Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia all still sidelined as well. Ashley Young is a slight doubt at right-back following the knock he picked up in the first half last weekend.

Bastian Schweinsteiger should be good to go this weekend. United's 1-0 win at Liverpool is the only Premier League game in which they have won in which the German midfielder has been absent this season.

Michael Carrick is the only other absentee for the hosts so Morgan Schneiderlin will sit in front of the back four.

Graziano Pellè has only played 10 minutes since Christmas and is not expected to be fit for this one. The Italian striker has scored three goals in two previous Premier League matches versus the Red Devils. Shane Long should remain up front.

Possible Lineups: Manchester United vs West Ham

West Ham United: David de Gea; Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian; Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial; Wayne Rooney

Southampton: Fraser Forster; Cédric Soares, José Fonte, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Bertrand; James Ward-Prowse, Victor Wanyama, Sadio Mané, Steven Davis, Dušan Tadić; Shane Long

    Brief History

The club was founded in 1884 and plays at Park Avenue, Aberystwyth, where their ground accommodates 5,000 spectators with 1,002 of that capacity seated. Since the Welsh Premier League's inception, Aberystwyth Town are one of only three teams to have not been relegated from the division. Their best finish came in the league's first season, finishing in 3rd place in 1992/93.

In the summer of 2014 they rose to national attention when gloating qualifying for European football, when Manchester United failed to qualify. Sadly for Aber, their spell in Europe was short, going out 9-0 to Derry City on aggregate in the First Qualifying Round of the UEFA Europa League.

Achieving success as a Welsh Premier League is one of the hardest and most gruelling tasks in any Football Manager game.

    Finances and Board Expectations

Aber are run by Chairman Tony Bates and Vice-Chairman Donald Kane. Tony Bates is a partner of a local solicitors and Donald Kane runs a local Pub.

Being a semi-professional team in the Welsh Premier League, you face the challenge of competing against professional side and Welsh Premier League heavyweight, The New Saints (TNS), who have lifted the title for the last four consecutive seasons.

As you look to help the club improve on last season's 4th placed finish, the starting budget for Aber is a tiny £10k with just over £1.5k freed up for wages, in which the board will expect you get a Mid-Table finish, which could prove to be the best option (Media Prediction: 8th/12). You can increase this budget by promising the board you'll get a 'Top-Half Finish' (£11.45k and £1.8k for wages) or 'Around Top Of League' (£12.54k and £2k for wages).

You can look to increase your budgets a little further by promising success in the JD Welsh Cup. If you promise to reach the final of the JD Welsh Cup and finish around the top of the league, your maximum budget will be £12.79k for transfers and over £2k freed up for wages.

If you hope to make some extra money through selling players, bare in mind that only 40% of the transfer fees will be available for you to spend.

    Strongest Tactics

    4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1

The tactic you'll most likely see yourself playing with is either a 4-4-2 or a 4-4-1-1 with your star man, Chris Venables, in a Shadow Striker role playing just behind one of your strikers. The players in your squad fit this tactic, but bare in mind that you may be better off with a different tactic if you make some big signings.

To get the most out of your players, make sure you play them in a role which fits their style of play. Nearly all of the defenders in your squad prefer playing in 'Limited' roles so look to make sure they play to their best.

    Positional Analysis

    Goalkeeper
You have two near identical choices in goal with Mike Lewis and Chris Mullock, both having similar Current and Potential Ability and both preferring a Sweeper Keeper Role. Mike Lewis performs slightly better than Chris Mulllock who's on loan from TNS.

    Right Back
At right back you only really have one choice, with 31 year old Stuart Jones, who despite preferring to play at centre back, is your best choice at the right side of your defence.

    Left Back
The left back position is filled by one of the youngsters in your raging squad, 25 year old Cledan Davies. Cledan has a lot of experience for Aberystwyth at this level, having played in over 100 league games and nearly every league fixture for the last three seasons. You should hope he doesn't get injured as you don't have much cover for this position.

    Centre Backs
Your player assistant manager, Wyn Thomas, and Lee Surman are your best centre back pairing, with Stuart Jones being available to come in if you acquire another right back. Both have a lot of experience, and should be able to do the job for you in defence.

    Right Midfield
On your right wing, you have one of your only English players in the squad, Geoff Kellaway, who is equally adept on the left. His best attributes are his pace and acceleration and he will look to run with the ball when on the flanks. He has been at the club since 2003 and can also provide you with goals as he's scored 21 league goals in the last two seasons. You should hope he doesn't get injured as you have limited back up in this position.

    Left Midfield
If you transfer in a player at right mid, your best option is to play Geoff Kellaway on your left, with Craig Williams and Luke Sherbon offering strong back up options.

    Centre Midfielders
The middle of the park is one of the weaker areas in your squad with Antonio Corbisiero, Luke Sherbon and Ross Stephens offering limited options as ball winning midfielders. Your best option is in fact, star player, Chris Venables, who would be the best player in a number of positions, but it's normally best to play him as a shadow striker, providing you have players who can perform at centre mid.

    Attacking Midfielders
You have strength in this department with Welsh Premier League star, Chris Venables, thriving as a shadow striker over the last few years in this position. He has played in the last 13 consecutive season in the league, playing for Aber for four of those. Venables scored more goals in 2014 than any footballer who struck 39 times, one more than Real Madrid's Ronaldo and four more than Barcelona star Lionel Messi. In the last two seasons he's scored 52 goals in the Welsh Prem, and should definitely be the star in your side. Luke Sherbon is also available as a strong cover option if you decide to play Venables in a different position or if he gets injured.

    Strikers
You have three strong strikers that can fill the position up top, with Rhys Griffiths, Jamie Reed and Darren Thomas being your best choices respectively. As you only have one striker in the suggested tactic, make sure you play whichever striker is in the best form, as this can often be more important than the players ability.

    Weaknesses & Potential Strengthening

Your priority should be to sign a new goalkeeper, centre mid and a full back. You could go on and make lots of signings to cover all your positions, but you must make sure you transfer shrewdly and budget wisely.

    Some potential quality signings include:
GK - David Stulfhelder (No Club) - Free - A solid 39 year old keeper who you can grab up on an amateur contract
RB / RM - Mark Connolly (Bala) - Free - An experienced winger who will be one of your star players, if you manage to persuade him to join. Can also provide cover at right back and up front
CB - Alex Evans (Goytre) - Free - Young 22 year old centre back with bags of potential who will get in your starting line up immediately as well as being one of your best players
CM / AM - Kurtis March (Port Talbot) - £3k - Young 22 year old centre mid who will run the team from the centre of the park, can also cover at attacking mid. You will have to wait until January to sign him as he has only recently signed for Port Talbot
CM - Nathan Craig (Caernarfon) - £500 - A strong midfielder who you will be able to sign if you free up a large amount of your wage budget

Other signings worth a look at include, Jamie Tolley, Tom Roberts and Nathan Waters.

There are plenty of young Welsh players you can sign for free, just keep looking.

    Summary

To summarise, with a couple good signings and a bit of luck, winning the Welsh Prem is a task you should be able to manage.
But success in Europe? Now that’s near-impossible.

You may use any color you like, all you need to know is the color's hex code. For example, the code of basic red color is #CC0000 and as a result our bbcode will be like this:
    Red
    [color=#CC0000]Red[/color]

    Video Embedding
You can easily embed a YouTube or a Vimeo video here. This will allow viewers to remain on the FM Scout page, while still being able to view the video.

    [youtube=videoid]
    or
    [vimeo=videoid]
The videoid can be found at the end of the video's URL. It is the part after "v=" in the URL. An example is underlined below:

    Links
You can create links using page URLs by clicking the "Link" icon above the reply box, or by pressing Ctrl+L. You can re-name these links to whatever you want by entering the name you want to change it to in the highlighted field. Example:
    Home Page
    [url=http://www.fmscout.com]Home Page[/url]

    Images
    SIMPLE USE:
    [img]fullsizepic[/img]

It's important to use the direct path to the picture, and not a link to the page it was uploaded.
If the pic is wider than the container box, it will automatically scaled down to fit that box and linked to open full scale in lightbox mode when clicked.
This will work well with a few pictures per page. However, popular topics with intensive use of pictures like that, will become quite heavy to load and will decrease user experience as a result. That is why we recommend the advanced use as outlined below.

    ADVANCED USE (recommended):
    [img=fullsizepic]thumbnailpic[/img]

The best free image hosting site you can use is fmshots.com. I'll explain the path to automatic thumbnails that site generates.

Add 'th' or 'md' before file extension (2 sizes).
    fullsizepic (original size)

  • 02/02/16--06:01: Introducing FMSHOTS.com
  • fmshots.com is a brand new site that aims to cover the image hosting needs of every Football Manager fan. It comes with core community features such as liking pictures and following uploaders, while there are plans to further enhance and solidify that aspect of the site in due time.

    What happened?

During the last week of January it came to my attention that images hosted on imgur no longer worked here. They worked fine elsewhere, so it turns out imgur had blocked fmscout to disable hot-linking images here.

I admit It was my mistake for relying on an external service I had no control over. And it wasn't about the roughly 1700 images I had uploaded there myself... the issue was way more severe. Apparently our members were hot-linking here to over 130000 pictures hosted on imgur. As a result, the bandwidth generated to their servers was massive without earning any revenue for them.

I've been using imgur for more than 2 years and it has been the only place I'd recommend to everyone all this time. To be honest we didn't do anything differently now compared to what we did a year ago, so I'm guessing they must have updated their terms of service recently in order to justify blocking communities from hot-linking pictures.

I don't blame them for deciding to block us, but it would be nice if they would alert me beforehand and give me a week to take the necessary actions for a smooth transition. They decided to pull the plug out of the blue without any warning, and that was very disappointing. At least they didn't delete any pictures, which allowed me to recover everything locally.

After recovering all imgur hosted pictures that existed in the entire fmscout database, I decided to acquire a new server that would work as a cdn for this sole purpose and bought the fmshots.com domain to tie it all up. It took a couple of days to set everything up and eventually update all imgur embedded pictures to fmshots.

    The plan for fmshots

You need a free member account on fmshots.com to start uploading. Member accounts there are not connected to fmscout. There are no storage limits for the time being; the only limitation is that each picture you upload has to be less than 2MB. Everyone from the Football Manager scene is welcome to join and use the site to store FM related pictures.

The running costs for this site are less than $50 per month, and I'm hoping to cover at least half of that from the Google ads placed there. I'll probably add a donation box too. The initial server setup doesn't include much storage (less than 50GB), so if the site takes off we'll be needing to upgrade soon. All funds collected will be invested in the site's infrastructure and development.

The site is very easy to use and I'm hoping you'll enjoy its functionality. So get in there now, create your free account and start uploading your FM screenshots and other related imagery.

fmshots.com / top-notch free hosting for your Football Manager images!

  • 02/02/16--09:20: iOS style Facepack v2.0
  • iOS style'16 megapack 1.0

    Released: 5 Jan 2015
    ver2.0 Update: 2 Feb 2015

    A little bit intro...
So my friends and I decided to make a new facepack this year using action photos, making this game livelier. Therefore I came up with this iOS icon-like model (credit to apple!) which is perfect for any FM skin and it's also a good choice for any profile pics :D
Our iOS style facepack covers around 2,500 players in total for the major European Leagues.

    Including:
Premier Division -credit to myself :D
La Liga (9 teams) -credit to A_Cassano
Serie A -credit to A_Cassano, Pathtore and Raymond_C21
    Bundesliga 1 -credit to flywerder
    Ligue 1 -credit to Pathtore
and most of the wonder kids as an added bonus.

    --
    total player faces: 2,500-->4,200+
    Update 2.0 including:

Sky bet Championship -credit to flywerder and Shin_M
La Liga (the rest 11 teams) -credit to A_Cassano and Shin_M
Bundesliga 2 (7 teams) -credit to flywerder
Pack addition 1 -credit to flywerder and Makua

Special thanks to Makua for making hundreds of iOS style faces, great work!

Note that this pack was made for FM2016 intentionally, however you can also apply it to previous FM series.

How to add iOS style facepack on FM16

    1. Download the .rar archive and use a tool such as 7-zip for Windows or The Unarchiver for MacOSX to extract its contents.

    2. Move the extracted folder "iOS‘16 Facepack" to:
      \Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2016\graphics\
Create the folder "graphics" if it doesn't exist.

    3. Open Football Manager 2016 and go to Preferences > Interface.
      Click the "Clear Cache" button.
Enable "Reload skin when confirming changes in Preferences".
      Click the "Reload Skin" button.
There should be a box that pops up saying 'loading image data for the new skin'. Once this is done your graphics should be working within the game.

There's no doubt that sports sponsorships have changed dramatically in recent decades. What used to be a simple marketing trick used by companies to raise awareness has turned into a complicated business platform that generates a worldwide revenue well into the billions. In fact, this business is so profitable that it has drawn the attention of several online gaming casinos where you can play for free, companies that already bring in tons of cash on a yearly basis.

    The problem

When you look at the match-fixing scandal that took place in Italy recently, that resulted in the arrest of great names like Stefano Mauri and Omar Milanetto, it only seems fair to question the legality of bookmakers sponsoring football teams in the Premier League.

The answer to this requisition is yes – especially when you take a closer look at the contracts (and their morality clauses) that are agreed upon by football clubs and gambling companies. For instance, one of the conditions states that both parties must avoid actions that affect their images. In other words, a sponsorship between football clubs and online gambling companies is no different than the ones that they sign with big corporations –both parties would end up losing in the long run if something untoward were to happen. Although the match-fixing scandal hit the industry a hefty blow, it is also important to remember that most players are not willing to throw away their careers for short term profit.

Another notable fact, based on information from several surveys, football aficionados trust the sponsors of their favorite teams. Furthermore, they are more willing to bet on their favorite team, if a certain casino sponsors their team. Thus, maybe the reason that there's so much suspicion surrounding the legality of a football club being sponsored by an online gambling company is because bookmakers seem to have hit the advertising bulls-eye by increasing brand awareness in a way that it reaches the right audience. And that's not all – there are several Premier League teams that have either benefited or as still benefiting from their sponsorships with bookmakers.

Interested in learning more? Keep reading for a short but comprehensive list of such teams:

    Manchester United
After the success of bwin.com's shirt sponsorship with Real Madrid – a partnership that helped the company gain about 20% of the betting market share in Spain – the company has expanded its reach to the Premier League.

Bwin.com sponsors Real Madrid to the tune of $16 million every year but they are only offering the Red Devils $2.4 million. Still, this is more than Manchester United received from their last sponsorship with Betfair, which was estimated at about $1.5 million a year.

    Aston Villa
Popular UK casino operator, Genting Casino has become the main shirt sponsor (for two years) for the football club. This company has over 40 casinos in the UK alone and is part of Malaysia's biggest multinational corporation. Still, when you consider that their logo was on both home and away shirts during the 2012-13 season, their status will grow even more.

    Arsenal London
Although the team was off to a rough start during the 2012-13 season, they were able to recuperate a little bit by the end of the first half of the season. They had to – Emirates Airlines (their biggest sponsor) threatened to cut off their funding if no improvement was seen. In spite of this little issue, Emirates and the bookmaker sponsor, GunnersGaming by Betsson, still considers Arsenal to be a good brand.

    Chelsea London
Although 188bet was one of the main players in a major UK betting scandal back in 2009, Chelsea still continued their collaboration with the popular bookmaker until the end of the 2011-12 season. This left the team without an official casino provider but this isn't a huge issue when you consider that the football club has also been sponsored by major corporation like Coca Cola and Samsung.

    Changes to 06/02/2016:
    - Update deductions points to Albania, Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and New-Caledonia
    - Update 2nd division to Venezuela: 18 clubs in 2015 then 24 clubs from 2016 season
    - Update format of the league for the 1st (13th in play-off from 2016) and 2nd division to Vietnam (8 clubs in 2015 then 10 clubs from 2016)
    - Update format of the league to Congo (18 clubs in 2015 without relegation then 20 clubs in 2016 with 4 relegations and 2 play-off 1/2, then 18 clubs from 2017 with 2 relegations)
    - Update format of the league to Sudan (15 clubs in 2015 with 1 relegation then 18 clubs from 2016 with 1 relegation + 2 play-offs 1/2)
    - Update cup format to Uzbekistan

The last update will be after the release of the patch 16.3... but all competitions formats of the competition and all points deductions are now OK for the seasons 2015 and 2016!

Like for FM2013, FM2014 and FM2015, I'll make an effort to deliver some updates of missing countries, trying to make them as realistic as possible on the competition formats and the different rules (limit foreigner, transfer windows, league sorting, dates, break period, effectifs rules, match rules, Bosman law, etc).

ATTENTION: Don't select more 69 updates of countries in same time! Otherwise, there is a crash dump to the creation of the game.
You must extracted the files .fmf directly in the editor data folder without the 7 subfolders.
You can select 74 of my updates (and all original leagues: 69+51= 120 playable countries) in same time (69 countries, CFU Championship, Oceania Champions League and the 3 International Competitions)

Choose "Custom" during the creation of the game or like this:

With these updates and the original leagues, there is therefore now playable with a maximum of realism on the format of competitions and rules:
    - All countries in Europe
    - All countries in South America (1st and 2nd division)
    - The 25 best countries in Asia
    - The 15 best countries in Africa
    - The 13 best countries in North America (All nations playing CONCACAF Champions League are represented) and the CFU Club Championship (all Carribean Nations are represented).
    - The 10 best countries in Oceania
    - Addition of 3 International Competitions.

    Enjoy. :D
