Match Guide: Managing morale and confidence

$
0
0
Morale for your players goes up and down under different circumstances. It does not matter if it is green or red, it is important to handle a situation in a way that will give your team an edge or at least make your team fight for every ball on the pitch.

This guide is created by MBarbaric and originally posted on the official Sports Interactive forums.

I picture morale like this:

On the left side sits (over)confidence and on the right side sits nervousness. they click - clack, go up and down, around focus which stays in the middle.

(over)confidence -------------------------------------- nervousness
__________________________________/\_______________________________

The general rule

When your team is winning your players slide to the left on the side of confidence. Somewhere between confidence and far left lays overconfidence, but it is quite a blurry line there.
When your team is on a losing streak, they slide to right and with every match lost they go closer to being more nervous.

How to determine where is my team on this scale?

1st clue - FORM

Your form should roughly tell you where is your team sliding closer to.
If you're winning, you're going towards (over)confidence.
If you are losing, you are sliding towards nervousness.

2nd clue - WORKRATE

This applies only for folks that watch major part of their matches (and that is not extended highlights).
If you see your team was fighting for every possession, it means they are focused.
If they didn't, they are either complacent or afraid.

3rd clue - TEAM TALK FEEDBACK

There is a really nice screen that can help you understand things better. Go on team report tab in squad screen and click on "last match" where you can see the team talk report from your last match. There you will see the exact effect team talk had on your players for that particular match.

Press conferences

I believe a crucial factor for a good match is press conference.
Before having one, I think of where my team is currently at on that imaginary scale and try to imagine how they feel.

If they are confident, I try to remind them through the press conference how tough the next game will be. Therefore I choose the answers building up the opposition and downplaying my chances.

If I am in a situation where my team struggles under the pressure of playing below par and is underachieving, I try to relieve this pressure and rebuild the confidence slowly through the next 5 games.

EXCEPTIONS

If my team is winning and I'm close to a big match against a rival or a big cup game, I won't downplay the chances of my club. I will check the form and morale of opposition and try to make the next match an event of even bigger importance, especially if the opposition side is in poor form. The reasoning behind this is that my team is already on the confident slide and with an upcoming big match I'm going to remind them of the importance of the game itself so hopefully they will kick on.

Team Talks

Pre-match team talk is always based on the odds.
If my team is favorite to win and we are in good form, I'll challenge the team to go out and pick the win.
If the odds are even or if the odds are slightly in favor of the opposition, I will encourage my players.
If I am the underdog, I will go with a laid back approach and let the team play freely.

Half time team talk is based solely on the performance in the first half.
If my team is playing well (ratings above 7), I will generally give them credit, if it's below 6.7 i will criticize them.

For the post game team talk I take in account of the full match and the expectations before the game combined with the result. So depending on the result, how my players performed and my pre game expectations, I will decide what kind of team talk to give to them.

Extra Tips

You have to be careful with players that have low pressure attribute (can be found out by checking players personality and media handling). You should pay attention not to put too much pressure on those players, because it can really backfire on you.
- Tip by genesimmons

I see team talks as a kind of a dial that you use to either demand more focus or to loosen up your players. The most demanding/aggressive team talks being on one end of the scale and the relaxing/high praise ones on the other. I don't pay any attention to match odds. These are an estimation based on who knows what exactly while the only thing that really matters is where the two teams sit on that very see-saw. So when I decide what to say pre-match I take into account how my team looked at the end of their last match, I look at the form and morale of the opponents and then decide whether the team needs more focus or loosening up. Or maybe they just need to keep going as they were in which case I say nothing.
Basically whenever my team is sitting on the complacency side of the see-saw I use the team talk dial to demand more focus. When they're on the nervousness side I try to loosen them up. When they're in the middle part I tend to not say anything at all.
- Tip by Äktsjon Männ

These are just the rough guides on team talks and you should take in account the type of your squad as well as individual players and form as well as importance on not repeating the same thing over as after while you will get repetitive.

The Mentality Ladder: Understanding Fluidity and Duty

Portuguese Wonder 3-2-2-1-2

This is nothing more than a great idea, which when used correctly this tactic can be very useful and unbelievable. I tested it by myself in different clubs of different leagues in a lot of countries. It gave me amazing results but the most unbelievable stats were done in Portugal, England, Spain, Italy and Germany major or minor leagues.

If used correctly you'll suffer no goals, you'll do amazing matches and you won't believe the number of goals that you score.

It consists in a fast construction with a lot of first touch passes.

So, you'll need:
  • Fast, strong and full of stamina Wing Backs
  • 1 Attacking Midfielder Center with attribute: Technique and First Touch at least 12
  • A Striker with good Finishing
  • At leats a good Central Defender
  • The tactic must be well prepared before play with it
  • Note: You can play without these requirements, but you might not obtain the wanted results.

4-3-3 Zemaniano for FM14 - Zemanlandia is reborn

    $
    0
    0

    A brief story

"Moggi non e il mio nemico, Moggio e un nemico di calcio" - Moggi is not my enemy, he is an enemy of football.

I chose to begin with this phrase because the truth always shines. Like the recently revealed fraud of Uli Hoeness and like the most fake league titles ever in Europe which won by Olympiakos of Kokkalis. Zeman didn't win anything in particular because he was the dark sheep of the system. The black hell who was revealing always on time what happened. Wisely broad educated he never had a doubt on what is correct or not.

Sebastian Leto admitted publicly once: "When I was in Olympiacos, after some matches which we didn't win, some dark cars were coming outside my home and people started to curse me in Spanish and to shout on me, the same happened 2 times in Catania."

So the dirtiness has no origins and countries. Zeman ironically admitted "Everybody wins trophies and league titles very clearly, like Juventus in Italy, Lyon in France, Real and Barcelona in Spain, even Olympiakos in Greece and Galatasaray in Turkey. Nobody knows the secret weapons that they use, however I revealed some of them in 98 and we had a big earthquake".

Zeman convinced global media opinions by presenting real and clear cut documents which were showing exactly the level of felony. As he publicly admitted in one debate against exceptional coach but poorly educated man - Marcello Lippi: "We use creatine, but it's different to use 300mgr in one month and to use 60mgr in one day". It's about the measure, we don't live in a virgin world, every team uses some substances.

    The FM14 Tactic

I used this formation with Palermo. I got promoted with ease and in my second season I had an amazing Serie A debut by making the top 5 having far the best attack and a modest-average defence. Of course my transfers were very limited. The serious transfers were very few because of Zamparini's maniac transfer policy. I made everywhere big wins and I humiliated all the top 4 teams of Serie A. Simply my roster was short and after 3-4 consecutive victories the team was jaded.

Have on mind to apply very tough training sessions and to use the same tactic in overload move. Always tackling hard, closing down and show up weaker foot. I had to make many tricks with players positions by making the wingers as full backs, the full backs as DMC and my AMR/L/C as central midfielders. Simply you need to know exceptionally the theory of positional play. Here I cannot teach you everything, I am just presenting a certain tactic, nothing more. I always want to reply to your comments but I cannot make football coaching classes here. Its about FM here, so be aware of that.

I use the same tactics in Juventus for 2nd season in a row. I cannot make any comparisons or conclusions because the roster of Juve is at least superior to overcome teams like Chievo, Atalanta and Bologna 4-0 anyway. The most intriguing fact with Juve is the ease and the quality of the chances that this team creates. My Juve team scores easily, runs faster than any other team without playing a parallel passing domination game.

    Screenshots

The images are very representative and speak for themselves.

    Zeman's career

Zeman has led a remarkable career to date and is well-known for his outspoken nature, his smoking habit and on a more profound level, his commitment to attacking football. He rose to prominence at the helm of Foggia who in his second tenure at the club, not only took them into Serie A but took them close to European qualification. He moved on to bigger clubs first with Lazio and them with Roma when his outspoken tendencies came to the fore with his accusations of illegal doping aimed at Juventus.

It would appear that that would be the peak of Zeman’s career as opportunities began to dry up via a whole variety of scenarios. Zeman would never admit he was in the wrong but his constant use of 4-3-3 and a pressing game meant that results were never a given. To a neutral such a characteristic is to be applauded but to potential employers, it became off-putting. Zeman claimed that it was a conspiracy against him created by Luciano Moggi after his allegations against Juventus. The timing of Zeman’s allegations of questionable medical practices supposedly employed by La Vecchia Signora and looking at his career in overview would suggest a connection but to do so without examining other reasons would be wasteful. The sporting evidence would suggest that it was more results and also the attitude that Zeman displayed that did not impress potential suitors.

Zeman did make a return to Serie A in 2004 following a sojourn in Turkey and a few unsuccessful tenures in Serie B. The 2004-05 season was one of moderate success for Zeman but he resigned following the season’s finale. He would return to Lecce again but it appeared that Zeman’s career had declined enough for him to be perceived as finished in coaching. A horrid short spell at Crvena Zvezda in 2008 appeared to be the end of the road for the Czech-born tactician.

A familiar name began the possible relaunch of Zeman’s career. Season 2010/11 saw Zeman return to the bench of Foggia and while they were unsuccessful in their bid for promotion, the excitement and unpredictability intrigued and delighted in equal measure.

    HIS LAST MIRACULOUS WORK

In summer of 2011 one of his disciples in his Roma days, Eusebio Di Francesco moved on up to an old stomping ground of Zeman’s, Lecce and Zeman at that time was head of all sporting matters at Pescara. His Pescara team was respectable and with such a steadfast dedication to attack, Pescara’s leading striker Ciro Immobile was be high up in the scoring charts. But the most impressive than all, is that Pescara has the least defeats in Serie B than any other team. Without having to sign big names, without having to speak too much.

Boem style, silenzio e lavoro a campo. Silence and work in the pitch. The other edge than Barcelona's 4-3-3. Zeman is not a coach who pushes up in whole pitch. He knows how to form pressing and in which areas to be focused on. He also knows perfect nutrition, physical fitness training and medicine. He has graduate as a certified fitness coach with specialization in football and he had write for his master study a very steady Analysis for the Effects of Medicine in Football.

He really knows a lot till details and precisely because of that the System of Calcio hates him ferociously. He was the main accuser for Testosterone and Nadrolone Scandal in 2000-1. Till then, his carrer became... carnival. Don't ask me why, L'omerta di calcio...

The summer of 2013 Zeman moved back to his beloved Roma. His work started to be obvious immediately. Disappointing victories and amazing victories. He failed because of bad relationship with De Rossi, who split the dressing rooms in two sides, even though Roma was the best team till the end of January. Garcia, current coach, follows his patterns simply, the team now is worked furthermore and they don't risk in defence.

FMC FLUT skin for FM 2014 v.2.0 [Updated 13.04.2014]

Skin style FMC for FM 2014 (1920x1080 and 1600x900).

I'm pleased to present you the version 2.0 of FMC FLUTSkin for FM 14 (white version).

This FlutSkin version includes lots of changes. Some of them are just tweaks and fixes, however other are major changes (for example the "match pre match panel", the "match post match panel" or even the "team talk instructions"). In fact, in the other versions I wasn't totally satisfied with some dark panels. As you know (or can imagine) I'm not a big fan of dark style. I prefer the white style (that's why I made a white skin), in my opinion more clean and readable.
Then, I decided to "restyle" lots of panels with a more white style, also including in some of them the green grass picture that I love, and that I call "the flut style brand" (forgive me the lack of humility).

It was a hard work - I had to edit more than a hundred of xml files - but now I'm satisfied with the skin look.
I know that the dark style fans certainly will not like the skin but I believe the white style fans will appreciate it.

I hope you enjoy it if you decide playing our loved game with the FLUTSkin 2.0!!!!

A special thanks to rune (from german Meistertrainerforum). As in the previous versions rune played a great role.
In this version (as in the previous) I also included the trophies’ graphics from “Champions League skin” of a31632, to whom I want to give recognition.

As always I would appreciate it if you could tell me when and in what circumstances (or panels) the bugs arise.

This skin was made to work properly in 1920x1080, however I also included a version for 1600x900.

Here is the most important tweaks in the update (13.04.2014) for FlutSkin version 2.0:
    - Inbox panel (lots of panels now with bigger pictures)
    - Match post match panel
    - Match pre match panel
    - Squad tactics (new default view)
    - Squad (new default view)
    - Match overview panel (goal scorers and other game events info fixed)
    - Manager information profile (“tendencies” included)
    - Tactics player instructions panel match (fixed the colour of player name in tactics slot)

The Default Logos Megapack 2014 is out !

The continuation of over 3 years of logo research and help by the Football Manager community, now entirely updated for FM14.

    This Megapack includes the following:
    • Over 12.500 Club logos from 216 nations
    • Over 600 Competition logos
    • All Nations (224) and Continents

All of these in normal, small and background left/right. The file is approx. 1.5 GB !

    Update 1 is here !

-Over 550 updated logos (clubs and competitions)
-HQ logos for major leagues and teams if they were not in the MP
-East Timor and South Sudan as new nations with club logos
-Many small countries with new and improved logos !

    Important Notes

    • Some logos might be incorrect/outdated or missing. If you have a new logo for me you can either respond in this topic or send me a PM.
    • PM's and messages that contain a country, UID and logo will be in the next update, simply stating 'logo X is wrong...' will be ignored.
    • I won't always confirm that your request is processed, but if it's done correctly you can assume it will be !
    • I don't make anniversary logos for clubs, because those are outdated too soon. This pack is made to work in all FM versions (at least from FM12 and onwards) and should look real even after 5+ years of gameplay.
    • The only exceptions on the previous are logos for international cups, future updates might contain an alternative image without any year or location, but no promises.
The newest idea this year is a Torrent, which is also available to download above. Initially it might take long to download, but it's there for those willing to use a torrent. If you don't know how a torrent works, just download the normal Megapack.

    How to install?

    1. Download the .zip archive and use a tool such as 7-zip for Windows or The Unarchiver for MacOSX to extract the folders.
    2. Cut and paste the extracted folder to:
      Win Vista/Win 7/Win 8: C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2014\graphics\logos\
      Win 2000/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2014\graphics\logos\
      Win 98/ME: C:\My Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2014\graphics\logos\
      Mac OS X: /Users/<username>/Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2014/graphics/logos/
    3. Create folders "graphics" and "logos" if they don't exist already
    4. Run Football Manager 2014 and go to: Preferences > Interface Click Using caching to decrease page loading times "OFF"
Click Reload Skin when confirming changes in preferences "ON"
      Confirm!

The 2014 Megapack is available to all official SI fansites, but doesn't mean it's already there. If you want to add the pack on your forum or website, feel free to PM me about it and we will figure something out.

Logo creators are free to use this Megapack as a base for their own creations, but I would like to get referenced as a source in that case.

    FM14 Chelsea Guide

Written by TVDLC123 and Hazard with the help of LFC.

Chelsea FC, owned by billionaire businessman Roman Abramovich, are a team with riches at their fingertips. Abramovich took over Chelsea in June 2003, and has turned the club into one of the most formidable teams in, not only English football, but around the world. During his reign as chairman, Chelsea have brought in some of the footballing world’s biggest names, such as Dutchman Arjen Robben, who currently plays for German side FC Bayern Munich, and have made players’ into club legends. Didier Drogba spent the majority of his career at Chelsea, and holds a great love for the club who turned him into a superstar. The club have also brought in some very talented youth, including Belgian winger Eden Hazard, who is widely regarded as one of the world’s biggest prospects, and his performances have matched this.

As you may be able to tell from this, the facilities at the club are beyond brilliant, and the youth teams possess some excellent prospects.Chelsea have also been notorious for hiring and sacking their managers frequently, with Jose Mourinho, labelled ‘The Special One’ by himself during his managerial career, their most successful manager since the take-over. However, it was interim manager, Roberto Di Matteo was the one who brought the Champions League, finally, to Stamford Bridge.

Can you emulate their successes, or go one better, and make the club the best in the world?

    Finances and Budget

As the billionaire status of their chairman suggests, Chelsea are an extremely rich club, and so money should not be an obstacle in your quest for success. However, the hopes that Abramovich has for the side are equally high. At the very least, he will expect you to challenge for the title, for which he will give you a transfer budget of £38.5M, and a wage budget of £2.8M. This is enough to build up your team a decent standard while filling in the gaps, however, if you want to bring in some very big names, you should choose the other option, in which he expects you to win the title, which, in exchange for, he will supply you with a very hefty £52M budget, and a £3.2M wage budget, which is more than enough for you to make all the deals you could want, especially after you sell some deadwood, which will increase it.

    Tactics

    4-2-3-1 Fluid

Chelsea’s tactic in real life under the last few managers, which has led them to great success, also works very well in Football Manager. The two defensive midfielders are key to this formation, with one of them tending to be more defensive, whilst the other is more free to attack. This allows them to move from defence into their strong midfield areas easily. The central attacking midfield player is also vital, as he can distribute the ball the both wingers, or to the lone striker, who will need to be a good finisher for this tactic to work efficiently. This tactic works well with a control style, such as how Chelsea play in real life, dominating possession.

    4-3-3 Fluid

Another tactic that works very well for Chelsea, and still utilizes wingers, is this. Wingers are incredibly important to this formation, and allow you to play a wider game. Central midfielders, however, are key. The three midfielders will have to control the whole park if the wingers do not get back to defend, so it is vital that they up their game when this tactic is used. This tactic will also work best with a control style, as the midfielders will do well not to get too far forward, in fear of counter attacks.

    4-4-1-1 Balanced

The third tactic we recommend here, is one, which is not one Chelsea have used much in recent times, but is still good enough to do the job, especially against sides which are vulnerable to through balls. This tactic is slightly more defensive that the others, with a man to man style marking in the midfield and defence, whilst the CAM is very useful in order for you to counter, as he can hold up the play waiting for support or also play the striker through. Like the other 2 tactics, the lone striker is again key, as you will be relying on his for most of the goals.

    First 11 Positional Analysis

Goalkeeper - Petr Čech is another Didier Drogba type player. Chelsea bought the Czech goalkeeper and he has gone on to establish himself as a legend among ‘Blues’ fans. He is your safest bet between the sticks, with his reflexes second to none. He will do a fantastic job in goal, and you should look no further than the 31-year-old, who should be in the peak of his career. Backup to Čech comes in the shape of Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, with the veteran shot-stopper being snapped up on a free transfer from Fulham in the Summer transfer window. He is one of the league’s most underrated goalkeepers, but his age may be a concern to you, so you may want to bring in a long term replacement. Or, you could turn your attentions to Thibaut Courtois, who is currently on loan at La Liga side Atlético Madrid. Despite the Belgian being so young, the 21-year-old is thought to be one of the world’s best keepers, so you should look to utilize him on his return. In order to keep Čech happy, however, you may want to rotate the two in the second season, as an unhappy Čech may mean unhappy fans.

Right Backs - This position has been held for many years by Serbian international, Branislav Ivanovic. The 29 year old is both very solid defensively, but has shown that he can pose a threat on the overlap, attackingly. His age however, may tempt you to look at your other main option, Spaniard, Cesar Azpilicueta. He is a much younger player, and can play in a multitude of roles, as he has shown in real life, where he has filled in, and potentially taken over for Ashley Cole, whilst he has been injured, in the LB role. He will offer you more of a threat going forward, but he is less of a physical presence. which also comes in play regarding set pieces, where Ivanovic’s height and strength can be very useful.

Centre Backs - Chelsea have always been a very strong defensive side, since their takeover, to the modern day. This has been heavily down to their very capable central defence. The man who has been there since the beginning, is club captain, and legend, John Terry. The 32 year old has been a rock at the heart of the Chelsea defence, and his immense leadership and physical presence should warrant him a starting role in your team. He has two main potential partners, both with very different playing styles. Firstly, there is Gary Cahill, a traditional English, strong, tall centre back. The 27 year old can again be very useful in set pieces, and will be good against stronger strikers. The other option you have is the Brazilian, David Luiz. The iconic hair of Luiz can be seen anywhere on the pitch, with his tendency to roam forward sometimes a problem against teams which like to counter. However, his great skill with the ball, as well as his great free kicks and ability to create a spark when he goes forward is something which you might consider very helpful. The fact that Luiz is a year younger might persuade you to pick him, but be wary, he could leave gaps at the back if you are not careful. In terms of youth in this position, you have a good choice, with versatile Czech, Tomas Kalas able to play there, as well as two very promising talents out on loan, in the shape of new signing Kurt Zouma, who was courted by the likes of Arsenal and Real, and Nathaniel Chalobah.

Left Backs - Ashley Cole may be approaching the later stages of his career, but he hasn’t lost any of his ability. The Englishman is still one of the league’s finest talents in his position, but one aspect you may want to consider is the defender’s wages. At £120,000 per week, many argue that the wages do not befit the 32-year-old’s playing time in real life, with some also saying that he is too old to be earning such a high amount of money. You may wish to sell him in order to free up some more wage budget. Cesar Azpilicueta should be considered a rotation option with Cole, and you may even prefer to choose the Spaniard as a first team regular. He is an excellent player, both offensively and defensively, and the player can deliver some killer crosses, as well as the ability to launch huge throw-ins into the area. Your third option for this role is another Englishman. Considered by a few to be one of the worst players’ to win a UEFA Champions League winners medal, Ryan Bertrand is actually a very solid fullback, and will perform to a more than acceptable standard in the first team. You will, however, be without his services in your first season, with the 24-year-old spending the current season on loan at Aston Villa.

Defensive Midfielders - Chelsea have a good amount of options in the defensive midfield areas, which is very useful if you choose to play the 4-2-3-1 tactic with two 2 DM’s. Primarily, there is the Nigerian, John Obi Mikel. Infamous for his lack of goals during his spell at the club, the 26 year old is very strong defensively, and should be able to hold down one of the DM spots, allowing his partner to roam forward. He is however wanted at the start of the game, and selling him would give you some money which you can reinvest in another, potentially younger and more versatile player in this position. New signing, Nemanja Matic can also play here, and whilst he is more someone for the future, he can still do a decent job if you chose him to start. David Luiz can also play here, and this is a good choice, if you are looking for someone who is fairly solid defensively, but is a bright spark on the attack. Finally, although he is primarily a CM, and is more effective there, Brazilian star Ramires can be played here if need be, and his immense pace and stamina is an asset to any team.

Central Midfielders - Chelsea legend Frank Lampard should have a secure place in your first team squad. The Englishman’s level of fitness is a fantastic attribute, especially given the former West Ham players’ age. The 35-year-old is not getting any younger, but his control of the game is still talked about by many, and he has captured the hearts of Chelsea fans. A long term replacement may be wise. Ramires is another fantastically skilled player in this position, and the Brazilian will do a brilliant job. He is known for his aggressive nature, but he more than makes up for this with his pace and stamina. Stamford Bridge returnee Matic has some attributes that put him right up there with the ability of the other two. Your last option is John Obi Mikel. The Nigerian, typically a defensive midfielder, has a fantastic mentality and will serve the team well in big matches.

Left Midfielder/Winger - This is the position where you have, the player, which is widely considering the best in your team, and one of the best players in the league. The Belgian, Eden Hazard, has been magnificent since his big move to London, and in real life, has been the club’s standout performer. Whilst he can also play as a CAM, his primary position is on the left, where he can utilise his outstanding dribbling, pace and creativity to wreak havoc on your oppositions defence. Considering the fact that he is only 21, you should be trying to mould him into one of the worlds best, as his outstanding potential, when nurtured, is invaluable. Hazard is your clear starter, but incase of an unfortunate injury, or if you just want to rotate in cup matches etc, your backup is still very talented, and comes primarily in the shape of German, Andre Schurrle. Another 22 year old, he is extremely capable, and also has good potential. His hard work is one of his outstanding qualities, and he is also very versatile, as he can play across the attacking midfield areas, as well as up front, where he has been played several times by manager Jose Mourinho, in key matches this season. Willian is also capable of playing here, but should only be used in extreme circumstances, as Hazard and Schurrle are more than capable of holding down this role between them.

Central Attacking Midfielders - Chelsea are blessed with a heavily talented attacking midfield, and their CAM role is no exception. The man who should be starting most of your games in this position is Brazilian, Oscar. Another youngster, the 21 year old has a great future ahead of him, and it is up to you to try and help him reach his great potential. At the moment, his stunning passing, creativity, and movement makes him one of the first names on the teamsheet, and he can, and should, play a huge role in your title bid. Eden Hazard is also extremely capable in this role, but you should primarily utilise him out on the left, and leave Oscar to start in the center. In terms of backup, Willian is again a good option. The versatile midfielder can play all the attacking midfield roles, and he might have to start on the right, where you are slightly lacking, in terms of depth. Youngster Marco van Ginkel can fill in here, and his high potential, might convince you to start him in cup matches. He can play well in the starting lineup if injuries or fitness affect your team, but other than that Oscar should be your first choice by a far in this role.

Right Midfielder/Winger - Willian is the main choice here for Mourinho in real life, and the player who joined from Anzhi is a very skillful player. His trickery will be too much for plenty of Premier League defenders, and his pace will match this. Chelsea fans have warmed to him over the 2013-2014 season, and if he gives the same kind of performances in your saves, the in-game fans will as well. His Brazilian counterpart, Oscar, normally an attacking midfielder, can also play here, and possesses an equal amount of skill. New recruit Mohamed Salah, branded ‘the Egyptian Messi’ during his time with FC Basel, had impressed Chelsea on several occasions in UEFA Champions League matches against them, and he should be a fantastic player for you. Other than these three, Chelsea are not heavily armed in this position, and it may be worth considering bringing in more right sided midfielders, even if it is just to add to the squad depth.

Striker - Chelsea have been notorious in recent times of being in the transfer market for a new striker, after their manager, Jose Mourinho said his current options were not enough. It is fairly clear you will need to strengthen here, but you do have a few options at the club you will want to consider. Firstly, there is Cameronian veteran striker Samuel Eto’o. The 32 year old is still a good player, considering his age, and will most likely suffice as backup. However, if you want to bring in some big names, and his fairly high wages are a prime candidate for him to be sold to clear up some of your wage budget, and since he is only on a 1 year contract, selling how now would be your only real chance of making a solid profit on him. Next there is Spaniard, Fernando Torres, who famously signed for Chelsea for a BPL record fee of 50M, and failed to settle and start scoring. Torres has incredibly high wages of 175K, the 2nd highest in your team. These wages do not reflect his ability, and it is advised that you sell him while you can, before he turns 30. The last option in your team is Demba Ba, unlike his counterparts in his role, is not on high wages compared to the rest of your team, but he is seemingly less capable than the other two. He should not be starting for you, but as backup he may do, depending on if you play with a target man style forward, or a more passing, movement focused striker, where his skills are wasted, and where he will be extremely ineffective. Finally, you also have talented Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku on loan at Everton, and when he comes back next season, he should definitely be in your plans, as his potential is very high is trained and used properly.

    Positions to Strengthen

Striker - The obvious gap in your team in terms of quality comes up front, and is the first area you should look to improve on. In real life, Chelsea have publicly gone after Atletico Madrid star, Diego Costa, who has been a star for them. FM have rewarded him in the latest update, with good attributes. However, this comes at a cost, as Atletico won’t let go of their star for anything less than his release clause of 32M. If you do not wish to pay that much, there are other options such as Real Madrid man Karim Benzema, or even Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.

Right Midfielder/Winger - While you are well stocked in the other two attacking roles, this role does lack some depth, and a player who prefers to play here as his first position. Barcelona star Pedro often moves to Chelsea under Jose Mourinho, and he is someone you should take a look at signing as well, as he could be available for around 20M. Another, cheaper option, is Schalke winger Jefferson Farfan, whose signature you can acquire for 12.75M, due to his release clause.

Centre Back - This position can seem bare, especially if you would rather David Luiz play higher up the field, you find yourself with only 2 remaining first team options, one of which (John Terry) is getting old. For this reason, you should look to replace Terry during his window, with a younger face. The big upcoming central defensive star is Real Madrid man Raphael Varane. The Frenchman has incredible potential, but will take a large sum out of your wallet, costing around 35M. If you are not willing to spend that much, look again in Span, this time to Barcelona youngster Marc Bartra. While the Spaniard may not have as high of a potential, he is still very good, and you can sign him for around 15M, making him a more viable option financially.
