Scandinavian Super League - BETA

$
0
0
The Scandinavian Super League is a fantasy league for FM 2013. It is a totally new league structure for the three Scandinavian Countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden). The competition structure is inspired by the English. It is as follows.

Leagues:
Scandinavian Super League (20 teams, 3 relegated)
Scandinavian Division One (24 teams, 3 relegated)
Scandinavian Division Two (24 teams, 3 relegated)
Scandinavian Division Three (24 teams, 4 relegated)
Scandinavian Championship (2 Groups of 16 teams, 6 relegated)
National Leagues (Inactive League)

Cups:
Scandinavian Cup (All teams - There's only a select few teams from the lower divisions)
Scandinavian League Cup (From Scandinavian Championship and up)
Danish Cup (Non-playable, but active - Teams from the Danish National League and Danish Lower Division)
Norwegian Cup (Non-playable, but active)
Swedish Cup (Non-playable, but active)

Notes:
  • All teams have been sorted by their reputation. This is why there might be an uneven number of teams from each nation in the leagues.
  • The League's reputation has been set above the current Danish Superliga, but below the Dutch Eredivisie.

BETA notes:
If you could test these things work and/or reproduce the problem, that would be great
  • Please note if the financials can hold up in the different leagues or if the TV Money needs increasing.
  • There has been a bug in the Alpha testing where it looks like teams have qualified for the EC at the beginning of the season. This might be the teams that have qualified in the original season.
  • Alpha testing suggest a low amount of regens in the Scandinavian clubs.

Known Issues:

Planned upgrades:
  • There will soon be implemented awards for each league.

Interview with Bobby Moseley

$

Bobby Moseley is a left-back for English nPower Championship side Birmingham City, and also an international for Ireland's under-17 side, making 5 appearances to date since making his debut in September 2012. He currently plys his trade in Birmingham City's under-18 side, and hopes to make the leap up to the first-team squad within a couple of years.

I contacted Bobby recently about the possibility of doing an interview for the site, and with no hesitation, he agreed. And I am glad to report he is one of the best interviews I think I will ever do! Enjoy this interview, and remember to leave a comment!

BM - Bobby Moseley

B - You made your debut for Ireland’s under-17s last year. How does it feel to play for your country?

BM - It is an unbelievable experience and a great honour to be called up. It has gave me a lot of experience both on and off the pitch. Mainly by playing against different styles of play to the ones in England. But I have to say, playing for your country is the best feeling ever.

B - How old were you when you were spotted by Birmingham, and how did it happen?

BM - I was at Coventry from the age 9 and then transferred to Birmingham at the age of 13 and been there ever since.

B - I've noticed you play as a full-back. Do you have any tips for people on how to stop the opposing winger?

BM - Well I think it depends upon the winger you are playing against, but I think that been patient, and also being confident that you are going to stop them going past you is important.

B - Who can you see winning the Champions League final later this month?

BM - I think that it's a hard one to call, but I can see Bayern Munich clinching it.

B - Have you ever signed yourself on Football Manager for a laugh?

BM - I usually play with Birmingham, so I push myself into the first team when I can!

B - What is being able to play for a professional team's academy side like? How does it feel to get out on that pitch?

BM - Brilliant to play at such a good standard and work with such good coaches and players. Can beat getting out on the pitch on a Saturday… best thing in football.

B - What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your career so far?

BM - Probably competing in the Euros with Ireland or playing games in the reserves.

B - What’s been the best moment of your career so far?

BM - I'd have to say so far either represent Republic of Ireland or signing my scholarship with Birmingham.

B - Do you try and base your game on anyone, and if so, who?

BM - I don't base my game to much on anyone, but I’d probably say Ashley Cole is the player I idolise the most.

B - What do you think the ultimate goal of a footballer's career should be?

BM - I think the ultimate goal of a footballer is to play at the highest level for as long as possible.

Interview with Sammy Sulphur

It's fair to say, not many of you will know just who Sammy Sulphur is. Well let me explain. The man with the rather unusual name is actually Harrogate Town's mascot, and an entirely new interviewee to the site. After the success of my interview with Birmingham City's Bobby Moseley, I decided to continue looking for people in football who play FM, and came across Sammy, via George Evans, a member on this forum. I contacted Sammy about doing an interview for us, and he agreed. Much like Bobby, I couldn't have wished for a much nicer person! Enjoy the interview, and remember to leave a comment to tell me and Sammy what you thought!

B - Blue

SS - Sammy Sulphur

B - How fun is being a mascot for you?

SS - The ability to represent the club that I love is fantastic. I love being able to talk about Harrogate Town, people don't realise what a great family club it is and also just how good non-league football is. Things like the FA cup run, TV appearance and FM are putting us on the footballing map.

B - What is the best save you've ever had on FM?

SS - Difficult one- I'm on a quest on my PC to take Town to the Premiership and am currently struggling to stay in the Championship in 2025. I beat league leaders Bolton wanderers 6-1 away in that season- amazing result that sent shockwaves through the league. For me though a magic moment was an individual piece of brilliance from my star midfielder.

B - What's your best moment playing FM?

SS - For me playing in the 3rd round of the FA cup was a highlight. Harrogate Town got beaten in real life in the FA cup 2nd round by Hastings this season on ESPN away on pens after a replay. I still haven't watched the recording back yet. So to be able to get the team to a place where we automatically qualify for that round was very special. Another was rigging a friendly v arch rivals Guiseley AFC - Town in the Championship, Guiseley somehow in League 2 and then hammering them 4-1- although I was hoping for more. I then saved the screenshot and sent it out to the Guiseley fans. They were gutted!

B - How do you think David Moyes will be able to compare to Sir Alex?

SS - Tough act to follow let's face it! But I think the fact that SAF is still there will help the transition and he will be successful long term.

B - What is your best ever buy on FM?

SS - I bought Theo Walcott at the age of 32 which was pretty cool. Seeing him play for Town was a bit of a rush, he wasn't all that though at that age in his career though and it nearly cost me. There's also a player called Roy Tucker I got in about 2018 on a free and is now worth 3 million- he has an exit clause though so probably going to lose him. He's the guy that scored from his own half.

B - What's the biggest title/trophy you've won in FM?

SS - I haven't won a trophy yet! Getting promoted to the football league was a massive moment and then I was able to get to League 1 quite easily. Since then it’s been really tough to kick on as I still have no budget or transfer budget so finally getting to the Championship. Beating port vale in a playoff final in front of 60000 at Wembley was pretty cool!

B - If you were a regular in Harrogate's first-team, what would be your position? Like, what position do you play when you play footie normally?

SS - In reality I'm a box to box midfielder, all action with the grit of Roy Keane and the right foot hammer of Hasselbaink. If I played for Town I'd love to be the 35 goal a season power forward- Falcao style. Surrounded by fast cars, girls and money.

B - Who do you feel will win the UCL final later this month?

SS - Well Bayern probably have the psychological edge having dominated the Bundesliga. I think though that they will be nervous having lost to Chelsea last year and also there is less pressure on BVB so I think there could be an upset. Score draw and pens- BVB to win!

B - Who is better in your eyes - Messi or Ronaldo? The unanswerable question!

SS - Messi - the stats don't lie.

B - Who do you think is the greatest young prospect in European football at the moment?

SS - Harrogate Town's goalkeeper is 22 and has been touted as the next Joe Hart! Barcelona have a conveyor belt of young strikers they grown, don't they have a new guy coming through who is only 18? Lewandowski is only 24 - he has a massive future ahead of him and available at a snip. Town should swoop for him!

Football Manager 2014 New Features we'd like to see

$
0
0
As kids, all of us have had our favourite toys which we used to play with for days on end. Eventually we did get bored with them though. There was always something wrong with it or something that could have made it much better. Nothing was perfect. It’s been the same case with Football Manager 2013. No matter how frustrated we've felt with the match engine – especially when our goalkeeper scores the silliest own goal we've ever seen - we've all had our good saves and we've all seen the thrilling games where our team scored a stoppage time winner or where we went through a nail-biting penalty shootout in the Champions League final.

In a few months it will be time to say goodbye to FM13 and say hello to FM14. Sports Interactive will probably add a touch here and there, add a couple of new features, but if you think you have a really good idea that will improve the game, how do you make sure that it is heard? The answer is simple – post on our FM 2014 Facebook page! The best suggestions posted will be featured below, and in the likely event that someone from SI has a look, there’s a chance that your suggestion will end up on the next edition of Football Manager!

We'll be updating this article once a week to include fresh feature requests, so make sure to come back for more ;)

Officially confirmed FM14 facts

Before listing the most interesting suggestions, we can already give you the officially confirmed facts that we have so far.

Sports Interactive's studio director Miles Jacobson confirmed the addition of two new languages in the upcoming Football Manager 2014. So for the first time you'll be able to play the game in Greek and Brazilian Portuguese. They are being added due to record sales in both countries.

Now, let’s get underway with your own feature requests!

Player Interaction

Having control over whether your players dive or not would by a cool addition.
Michael Miller

As manager we should have the possiblety for make "team-talk" to the players which is substituted off the field. Ex: You have a yellow card, dont want you to get sent off. ex: You played like crap! ex: need you fit for the next match also.
Håkon Kristiansen

I would like to be able to inform the players that Capital One Cup (as an example) is NOT a priority, so I can play youth or backup players without the main squad’s morale dropping.
Kjetil Thuen Tønnesen

When disciplining a player it would be nice to have more options to explain why they are being disciplined, and also if players are worried about lack of discipline asking them what specific issues they have.
Gary Foster

Would be interesting if two players in a team with different personalities clash with each other and get into a fight and/or have each other in their disliked personnel. Would certainly spice things up.
Jozef Ostrowski

Training

Bring back the old fashioned training schedules.
Jørgen Fjellstad Arnesen

It would be nice to have the choice between using the old and new training.
Kevin Wilson

Transfers

Prevent teams from buying the same players on every save. For example, PSG usually sign Schneiderlin, City usually buy Sandro etc.
Sean Lowrey

Would like to be able to be able to offer a certain club a player of mine in exchange of a player of theirs plus money. For example if I have a goalkeeper ‘A’, I could be able to offer it to a club for a player ‘B’ and a sum of 3m. The other club could haggle around with the fee if they are interested in ‘A’ or reject the deal completely.
Arvind Krishna

Have the ability to buy players and loan them back to their clubs like Stoke and Manchester United have done with Jack Butland and Wilfried Zaha respectively.
Tommy Stewart Colquhoun, Muzi 'Rafa' Nadal, Daniel Moore

Would like to have the option of sending a player on loan to a club as a part of a transfer deal of another player.
Alexander Rigby

Match Engine

Concept of drop balls and foul throws implemented in the game.
Николай Николов

Goalkeepers should be booked when time wasting.
Håkon Kristiansen

Would love it if we could have a sort of a manager view from the dugout or touchlines.
Robert McPhee

Media

To be invited to attend shows like MOTD or to be on Sky Sports etc would be cool.
John Reynolds

More types of questions from the media and different answers available depending on the emotion chosen by us.
Several people

I'd like if the press actually noticed when you make a huge leap with a club in the lower divisions. As in if Perugia in Lega Pro manages to get to Serie A in a few seasons. Now the press is more like, "meh... Whatever." even though it's a huge achievement.
Felix Raisma

Tactics

Ability to get your team to play proper ‘Total Football’. Currently we’re able to swap only two players with each other and set the our team to play a very fluid style, but it would be cool if it was easier to play Total Football.
Arvind Krishna

I’d like to assign players to mark certain opponents during defensive set pieces and not just mark tall/short or man mark/go back.
Lars Madsen

FM Handheld

I would think it would be fantastic if you could improve FM Handheld. Like put in more leagues and so.
Ludvig Karlsson

Regarding the handheld version, please put at least a 2D view on it. It would really entice me to buy an iPad or a Galaxy note just for this game.
Doni Teodorico Capuyan

Your Manager

Have a manager profile of your own and have the ability to increase your own stats.
Mihai Ene

Something needs to be done with the wages we earn over time or else it is just a redundant figure staring back at us. Perhaps the ability to buy shares of a club with the wages we have got?
Leon Tan, several others

I would like to apply for a job and have the club offer me an interview if they consider me for the job.
Mike Reid, Mikey Duckworth

Would like my manager to be able to speak languages other than the ones spoken in the country he hails from.
Freddy Chartier

An option to be real life managers or be able to become a staff member or player in game and turn them into a manager. For example, we could have the option of becoming Brendan Rodgers or becoming Ruud van Nistelrooy and turning him into a manager.
John Reynolds

Being given the option to start off as the manager of a reserve or under-18 side would be cool. We could build up our reputation and move to a club’s senior side or apply for the post of Senior Squad manager of the same club if the job is vacant.

Miscellaneous

A legends mode with all time legends like Maradona, Pele and Cruyff would be totally awesome.
Rune Andersen

I would add a value graph just like the attributes graph but it will show the player's value progress through the years just like the one that is in transfermarkt.
Dimitris Koutsogiannakis

Want to be able to host friendly in different countries at neutral venues. For example: Celtic vs Real Madrid in the USA. Both clubs could split the profits and have a boost in their fan base and merchandise sales.
Paul Kirkpatrick

Being able to change kits every season.
Николай Николов

With the influx of players getting into trouble for biting players, being racist etc it would be good for this to be introduced into the new football manager. I think it would be good if players on the game got a 10 game ban for example for an incident other than just a regular bad tackle.
Kieran Statham

One thing I would really love to see in the new FM which is regens that are actually related to current football players. It would be unrealistic for everyone to have a kid that plays football, but it would be cool to see a player with the surname Rooney, Messi or Ronaldo once in a while.

Arsenal FC, the dilemma

$
0
0

Arsenal FC. A football club that was based in South London, Woolwich temporarily but are now in North London permanently. They are known to thousands as the "only club in North London" due to their superiority. The other club in North London is Tottenham Hotspurs, Arsenal's most fierce rivals. For many years the two have been battling for the capital of England, alongside with Chelsea.

The history of this marvelous football club is mind blowing. In 1998, the year I was born, the club won the famous double, the FA cup and the premier league. This started the beginning of an era. This led to Arsenal dominance over England for many years then came the 2004 season. The year Arsenal shocked the world. They did something nobody has ever done, ever. Arsenal football club went 49 games unbeaten, not losing one game in the whole season, that year Arsenal went on to win the league. They were known as the invincible's. Their next trophy was in 2005 when they won the FA cup on penalties against Manchester United, just when Arsenal fans thought they were in paradise, hell's gates suddenly opened.

The captain of Arsenal FC. The king of football himself Thierry Henry departed the club, followed by legends such as Robert Pires, Freddy Ljunberg and Gilberto Silva. Fans were distraught over the departure of these legends, key members of The Invincible's team. One year passed by and no trophy. Many assumed Arsenal were just unlucky but slowly the professor, Arsene Wenger's hairs began to turn grey in stress. Years went by and still no trophy. Pressure started to mount on the whole Arsenal squad and a trend started. Arsenal started selling their captains to superior teams. Cesc Fabregas, who was said to be the future of the club, was sold to FC Barcelona as he wanted to "go back home". Samir Nasri was sold to Man City, Arsenal's rivals. Next was a huge act of betrayal. Robin Van Persie, the Flying Dutchman, who led Arsenal to champions league qualification. Who did he move to? Manchester United. Many fans were furious with his act of betrayal. For eight years Arsenal have been trying their best to win a trophy. The closest they came was in the Carling Cup final but a silly mistake by the goalkeeper let them down. Arsenal fans like myself pray every day and night that one day, just one day the horrible trophy drought will come to an end and the trend of Arsenal selling captains will end.

The caliber of the players Arsenal have bought does not match the caliber of players Arsenal have sold and that is one of Arsenal's biggest problems and challenges, spending. Just a few days ago that Arsenal co-owner Alisher Usmanov was top of the Sunday times rich list. This shows that Arsenal have the money but spending it is a problem. The board is very reluctant to spend money, unfortunately for the club and fans, you can't buy world class players without spending a decent amount of money, therefore if we don't spend money we won't get world class players that will actually add something to the club.

Another problem that Arsenal have is the players and their bad mentalities. The majority of the Arsenal players are lazy and they don't care about the club, for them all they care about is making sure they collect their money at the end of the week. Very few players in the squad have the correct mentality, the winning mentality. Very few players in the club try their best on the pitch each time they player, whether their best is enough is a different matter but for fans like myself we love players who give it their all. Players such as Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Aaron Ramsey are perfect examples of hard working players. Ramsey suffered a horrific injury which saw him out for years but he has now come back and is constantly stealing the show. Jack Wilshere also suffered a horrific injury at such a young age just like Aaron Ramsey but he constantly makes sure he does his best. Then you have a player like Oxlade-Chamberlain who doesn't always get to play but when he does he makes sure he does his best. For Arsenal to succeed they need all eleven or their players to have this mentality.
A major problem is the manager Arsene Wenger. He is naturally a great manager but his calm, soft mentality adds to Arsenal's challenges. When his team isn't playing well he often fails to motivate them and to let them know they're under-performing. If these players know that if they don't play well they will be screamed out they will definitely put 110% in each performance but that is not the case. The board, the fans and the coaching staff must all try their best to resurect Arsenal FC before it's too late.

If this is not done, what happened to Liverpool FC, which many Arsenal fans find funny and amusing will happen to us. We are already deteriorating as a football club but it can get even worse. Already teams such as Manchester United do not consider us as serious rivals any more. We want the old Arsenal back, the Arsenal that was feared by everyone. The Arsenal that would make big teams look little, that would make small teams look non-existent.

Its a tough challenge but I know the team is capable of doing it, the reputation of Arsenal FC will be restored once again.
