3-5-2 Van Gaal football by Danecr7

$

0
I am a huge fan of Manchester United and seeing LVG uses the Netherland World Cup's tactic with Man UTD FC made me want to reproduce it in FM14.
I saw a lot of tactics with the same goal. But I just tried to reproduce Van Gaal's player instructions to the fullest.
So here we go...

Tactic Main View:

Player Roles

Sweeper Keeper
I chose a sweeper keeper because the defender play very high on the field sometimes after the central line. He just have to play short with central defender and do what a goalkeeper is supposed to do. If you want you can even switch back to a simple goalkeeper. Courtois, De Gea or any good keeper can play this role.

Ball Playing Defenders (Martins Indi and De Vrij)
When the team is in possession of the ball, they play wider on the field like traditional right and left back. When defending, the come back to their former role (which is more central) to allow the wingbacks to come back and complete the five players defense. Defenders with decent passing skills are good for this. Jonny Evans, Varane, Pique... are good ideas.

Central Defender (Vlaar)
He is the main weapon when we talk about defending good at header and tackles and very strong physically, hes is the one that sacrifices his body to save the team for example Phil Jones, Papadopoulos, Doria, Zouma...

Complete Wingbacks
They are very important for this tactic and should be technically gifted with good crosses abilities and at least average at defense in order to help the back 3 on defense. Most of the time they play across the free throw line. Alaba and Danilo are very good for that.

Ball Winning Midfielder (De Jong)
Good defender but can also play the ball in order to keep the ball and with good stamina (Very important). For me the best option is someone like Vidal, Goretzka, Ramires.

Deep Lying Playmaker (Wijnaldum)
He is the link between the defense and first line of striker (Attacking midfielder and the 2 Wingbacks) his first goal is to organize the midfield but he can help the ball winning midfield with his interceptions. Wilshere, Ramsey, Kroos, Modric, Fabregas can be very good.

Attacking Midfielder (Sneijder)
The link between the midfield and the attack, he dictates the tempo and distribbutes the ball to other teammates. Ozil, Mata, Hazard can help.

Complete Forward (Robben)
The main man for the team good at dribbling, shooting, with a lot of pace and stamina. He is everywhere (plays on the right/left in the middle), scores goals and makes assists. Wayne Rooney, CR7, Ibrahimovic, or players like those guys will fit well.

False Nine (Van Persie)
A good finisher but also a good ball player. I mean technically gifted strikers like Thomas Muller, Messi, etc.

You can see what it looks like on attack:

And a good amount of interceptions

Game Stats (you can see that the opponents do not have a lot of shots)

I tested this tactic on my started from the Bottom FM14 (14.3) in 2024/2025 season and it worked fine for me.
But I think it will also work if you have some decent players.
Let me know what you think about it.

4-3-3 For The Ultimate Underdog

$
0
0
After weeks of tinkering with the different instructions, players roles, etc. I have finally created a tactic that is capable of taking down a top flight team with an underrated underdog!

I have used this tactic with Ajax, Wigan, RB Leipzig, and Brisbane Roar each with unbelievable success! Although as usual with any FM tactic, the right players will be needed to make the tactic work.

The Formation

The formation takes on a 4-3-3 or 4-1-2-2-1 shape. The mentality is on Contain, although it can be changed depending on results or if playing home or away I would always keep it on the default setting. As for fluidity, I recommend keeping it on Very Rigid unless you are one of the best teams in the league and have fantastic players at your disposal.

There are four vital players in making this tactic work:

Firstly the left centre back will be your main attacking outlet from corners. His aim is to attack the near post where if he is tall, strong, and has good heading, he will be sure to pick up a few goals.

The second important player is the Advanced Playmaker. This guy will always be the focal point of attacking moves, as he is the link between defence and attack. Almost every play comes through him.

The third player is the Advanced Forward. In each of my saves he is usually the one who gets on the end of everything in the box, and is always there to pounce on the defenders mistakes. He will also always be moving into channels to allow his team to keep possession and create space for the attacking midfielders.

The fourth and final most crucial player for the tactic is the left attacking midfielder. In contrast to the right sided winger, this man plays as an Inside Forward. He will be the most dangerous player on the pitch and should always be the man who you should look to base your team around. Grabbing countless goals and assists in my saves, you can always count on the IF to get you out of sticky situations.

Training

Throughout the pre-season I recommend training Fitness on Very High as it is the ideal time to get your players ready for the upcoming season.

The above screen is the training method I use if i'm stuck in a rough patch (if you have failed to win after 4 or 5 games). Although you could try other methods such as team meetings, talking to players, etc.

During the regular season I use this training method. Allowing your players to rest after matches is crucial in the recovery process between games, especially if you play in a league with multiple cup competitions.

In terms of individual training, train each player in the role that they will be playing on the pitch. The only exception is the striker which should be trained as a complete forward as it trains many more important attributes:
Position/Training Focus
  • Goalkeeper - Sweeper Keeper
  • Right Back - Complate Wing Back
  • Right CB - Central Defender
  • Left CB - Central Defender
  • Left Back - Complete Wing Back
  • Defensive Mid - Defensive Midfielder
  • Right CM - Central Midfielder
  • Left CM - Advanced Playmakers
  • Right Attacking Mid - Winger
  • Left Attacking Mid - Inside Forward
  • Striker - Complete Forward

Opposition Instructions

I highly recommend leaving this to your assistant if he has at least 15 Tactical Knowledge. If he doesn't then allow for another staff member with at least 15 Tactical Knowledge to give you advice on OI before each game. If you still don't have any staff member capable then you can either leave the OI instructions alone or tinker with them yourself. I usually just leave it with my assistant so I am unsure what instructions to give, I guess it all depends on the team you're playing against.

Results

My first season using this tactic with Wigan was very successful to say the least! We finished with the least amount of losses and second least amount of goals conceded in the league, allowing us to win promotion to the Premier League just two points behind of a rich Cardiff City side. The 72 goals scored mostly came from the Inside Forward, as my striker was only an average League 1 player at best.

My second season with Wigan saw me achieve an unbelievable 8th place in the Premier League! As compared to many other seasons it was a surprisingly low scoring one for the top flight teams, which allowed us to concede very few goals and defeat some of the stronger teams in the competition.

In my second season we were also able to win the Capital One Cup, which was an amazing achievement for a very lackluster Wigan side! I couldn't believe it when we defeated Chelsea 6-1 at Stamford Bridge! Even though they only played a young side, I was still amazed.

Currently in my third season with Wigan we have made a fantastic start to the season. Looking forward to challenging for the title, an unexpected expectation this season.

We are also having a great run in the Europa League and are apparently now strong favourites!

Recommended Players

From playing with this tactic for almost three season now, I have come up with a list of recommended players that have had great performances for me and how much I paid for them.
  • Nicosur Stanciu - 4.4 million from Steaua Bucharest
  • Eder Alvarez Balanta - 7.25 million from River Plate
  • Tim Wiese - Free
  • Tom Cleverly - 3.5 million from Manchester United
  • Dusan Tadic - 7.25 million from Southampton
  • Oscar Cardozo - 875k from Trapzonspor
  • Stefano Denswill - 3.2 million from Ajax
  • M'Baye Niang - Loaned from Ac Milan
  • Richmond Boakye - Loaned from Juventus
If this tactic DOES NOT work for you, than it means you either don't have the right players, or you need to tweak some of the instructions or mentality to work with your team.

Cheers
-Jamie

4-3-3 Tiki-Taka Tactic

$
0
0
This tactic is a 4-3-3 tactic for keeping possession and pressing teams high up the pitch. I have had a lot of success with this tactic with teams such as Southampton, Aston Villa and Liverpool. It is a tactic that I have spent a lot of time trying to perfect this tactic and I think I have got it to the best I can. Although I have the tactic as good as it can be in my opinion, you will also need to bring the right players in to your team with the right attributes and the right preferred moves.

Some good attributes to look for in players are:
  • Work rate, Decisions
  • Teamwork, Determination
  • Passing, Creativity
  • First Touch, Anticipation
  • Concentration
  • Composure
  • Positioning
  • Stamina

Obviously you won't be able to find all these attributes in a player but the more you can find the better.

Some good preferred moves to look for are:
  • Get further forward(for your AP and IFs)
  • Cut Inside( for IFs)
  • Play a Simple Passing Game
  • Play one-twos(For attacking players)

Some attributes that are bad for this style are:
  • Dwells on the ball
  • Tries long range passes
  • Shoots from Range
  • Looks for killer balls often
  • Any others you think would lead your team to give the ball away unnecessarily
You can also train players to stop or start doing some of these things.

The training I would use is tactics on very high during pre season with teamwork as pre match training. Then I would leave the training on tactics and very high for the first season as it may take a few months for the team to be really familiar with the tactic. During the season I alternate between attacking movement and defensive positioning depending on the opposition. After the first season you may want to alternate between training fitness to help with pressing or team cohesion to help with there teamwork.

One last thing is don't do opposition instructions as you want teams to react to you not for you to react to them.

3-5-2 of Muricy Ramalho for FM 2014

$
0
0
Words of Muricy Ramalho after Sao Pauolo won a modest third division team 2-1 in Paulistao Championship:
"I am ten times a better player from the ones that you watch now playing. They don't play with heart, they walk, they look in the stands for sponsors, girlfriends. They just watch the time clock in order to finish the obligation. They don't love to play football, to sweat, to work on the pitch, they just make some silly fun like when they play for recreation in the park with friends. I say it again and I believe it, I am ten times a better player than all of these who play now in Brazilian Serie A. I am not a better athlete, but I am surely a spirited player much more determined, much more concentrated and passionate than these kids."

We're not talking here for a rich European ex footballer who makes a fortune as a player and now takes up his hobby in the touch line. We're not talking for a British manager like Fergie, for a fancy guy like Prandelli, or for a fake philosopher who was translator. We're talking about a person, a man who lives 24 hours per day for football because it is his biggest passion. He had another occupation, he had another job but his heart was beating for football.

But who is Muricy Ramalho?

Born in 30-11-55 in Sao Paulo from a modest/average family. He grew up playing football and was an avid supporter of FC Sao Paulo like his entire family. He played in all the youth ranks in the first team as well but because of dictatorship in Brazil, his salary was always nominal and almost zero. Due to inflation it was impossible to make any further bank saving apart than all in one consumption policy. He found his peaceful land in Puebla in Mexico where he played brilliant football as an attacking midfielder, but due to a disastrous injury he finished up his career in the age of 30.

Then he started to make a new job in order to survive. He has working as a construction worker and he opened up some time later his own mini market to sell domestic food products. His construction company was going better, his reputation as a technician was growing but his small business fell apart leaving Muricy in debt. That practically meant that he lost all of his income due to debts and high inflation as well. Right after these adventures, in 1993 he started up his coaching career from Puebla with mixed results.

Later on the president of SPFC Juvenal Juvencio hired him as he knew him personally as a player and he was appreciating his skills and his fiery personality. He took over the youth teams and shortly after he moved into the first team as a coach. Muricy after 2 months changed a role as youth coach into a first team manager. Touch of lady luck? Nobody knows. The rumours say that Juvencio wanted a cheap coach who will work with an average roster and at the same time, the club will "pay" his services while he was a player. Dictatorship had blocked many clubs from "paying salaries" to young players and Muricy was among them.

His coaching career was quite succesfull in the beggining by claiming COPA CONMEBOL in 94 and in 96. Later on Muricy slipped towards various teams, however he won something with almost every club that he managed. Then he returned back to Sao Paulo, exactly 10 years since he left the club by replacing the charlatan Pablo (as he prefers) Autori. His legacy started to become legendary. 3 consecutive Serie A titles, broken every kind of records, aggressiveness on the pitch, shouts in the dressing rooms, provocation in the referees, humiliation of his (then) arch rival Luxemburgo and then... Juvencio fired him because he overshadowed him.

Sao Paulo flirted with relegation trice since the departure of Muricy. Right after Sao Paulo, he had a spell from bitter rivals Palmeiras by beating Sao Paulo in the final of Paulistao. After Verdao, he moved to Fluminense and despite they were in the bottom, he managed to win his 4th Serie A tittle!!! He didn't stop there though, he moved into Santos another classical rival of SPFC. There he found out a nasty cat named Neymar Jr. He transformed this skinny teenager into the player that we admire now with Selecao and much less with FC Catalunya. He won the Libertadores with Santos that has to be won since the era of Pele!!!

Such a coach didnt pass unoticed from Teixeira President of Brazilian football federation. However both Santos and Fluminense didn't allow him to go because he had a contract. That's why Brazil conceded 7 goals from Germany. Ramalho is very well known for his astonishing tactical skills and maneuvers that makes during the matches. He can play 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-2-2, 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1 and sometimes he plays with a false 9. However the tactic which made him popular globally was the solid tactic of 3-5-2. This hard module gave him 4 Serie A titles, 3 of them consecutive in a fashioned manner. He uses this tactic now with SPFC only in derbies that's why he will lose this Serie A league title this season.

The FM14 Tactic

I present you a very tough, battling and commanding tactic which guarantees you top level organisation on the pitch, tight distance and lethal counter attacks. One of the most cynical and dynamic 3-5-2 ever. Maybe better than 3-5-2 of Conte in some cases. Make extensive fitness training, use versatile players who are not slow and then tight marking, hard tackling, showing up into weaker foot. This tactic is higly recommended for clubs which are aiming the title. Don't expect sweet passing game and smooth balls in the flanks. This tactic is made from men for men.

Good luck to all of you and my deepest respect to FM Scout and to Stamatis Kritikos especially for their tolerance in my tactics.

I am pinchy and sparking but I don't have any empathy for anybody. It's just my personal style of expression. I say what you don't expect and I express myself with a way that maybe is not popular. But I say always the bare truth as I feel it, without any filter or diplomatic policy.

Ramalho does the same that's why you will never see him to coach in Europe or in the National team of Brazil. Original people have original expression, not computerized memorized responses like the translator or la-Moyes.

3-5-2 of Gennaro Gattuso for FM14

$
0
0
Words of legendary Greek coach Nikos Alefantos after Milan defeated Barcelona in San Siro:
"Milan played today extremely passionate. It was like I was watching ten Gattuso's to play football, I lost my mind, it was impeccable!!!"

Despite that Gattuso was absent his spirit was on the pitch. G.G began his carreer as a coach in a wrong way. After the experiment with cocaine addicted president of Sion Damien Constantini he messed up his career more with owner Zamparini. A person like Zampa doesn't need any introduction as for his morale value. His criminal record and the unlimited police visits to him talk by themselves.

Instead of enjoying his calm family life and his millions that he earned on the pitch, Rino decided to walk over the palko scenico of coaching life. Like Von Karajan used to say "its easy to be an orchestra, but very difficult to direct it", Rino was aware of that but he wasn't aware that in a miserable country like Hell-as will have to apologize to 8 daily sport newspapers for his beliefs and opinions.

It's difficult to come in terms that in the country of Platon and Socrates, you must wake up and sleep on how to be good with others by satisfying their appealing psychology and ego. Rino never made favours on and off the pitch. He lost his eyes because of battling mentality, he lost his family peace because of football and he lost his temper because of a cheap tabloid named "Goal". Unfortunately for this tabloid, they were caught offside when Rino made them a public humiliation by revealing their real motives and beliefs about him. Especially how this newspaper was motivating his players to sabotage him by using people who were close to the team's president to add pressure on Rino.

The most intriguing story here remains though, the fact that the club's PLC ownership remains "Motor Oil Hellas" and the administrator for the Stadium Gedi Koule is miss Agapi Vardinogianni. Manthos Poulinakis was an ex-secretary in various companies of Vardinogiannis family and still he has a personal touch with Agapi, Tzigger and Giorgos Vardinogiannis. Vardinogiannis family must notice was from Crete and they helped OFI more than enough in order to gain a respectable European and Greek status. Despite the brother of Giorgos Vardinogiannis -Vardis- died early, the connection between OFI and Vardinogiannis never broke up entirely.

All of these must be underlined and written publicly because the shadows and masks must fall down some day. The country of Aesop doesn't need any more fairy tales. It's about time to pay honor and respect to real football heroes like Rino Gattuso who give their life everyday on the football pitch in order to see a better sport. Without snakes-journalists, without soft/Jewish manipulation management and without shadows about everything. Rino said publicly "my door is 24 hours per day open, why nobody comes to me to talk face to face?"

* Gattuso has made many donations secretly and has a big heart that everybody has a place on it. I was an eye witness in some of Rino's charitable actions.

The FM14 tactic

The tactic that I am going to present you is a photocopy of G.G personality in the terrain. Proud, explosive, calculated and very combative. I am adding always my own views and beliefs and I never "copy" any coach simply because this is me. I cannot become exactly e.g Van Gaal, Simeone, Sir Alex etc. What I try to do is to bring close to the reality as much as I can. I love reading and writing but unfortunately my working time plus some health issues (minor) don't allow me to dedicate more time on presenting my work appropriately. In order to avoid any confusion, I present here what I consider interesting from a coaching point of view. There is no love and hate on my work. However I have my moral codes and ethics and I demand respect to them like I do with every other similar codes.

This particular tactic is impressive for many reasons :
  • OFI had a team which is individually as a roster 2nd division level
  • Tactics with 3 central defenders advocate players' and coach's intelligence
  • Collective manner and approach are highly rewarded due to tactic's efficiency and consistency

I used these tactics with Fiorentina and I won Serie A on my first season in charge there. It was not a miraculous achievement for the simple reason that I made 2 crucial movements in the beggining of the season : I fired "Pinocchio" Daniele-Sion-Israel and I employed on pre-season some heavy 5-3-2 modules in order to help my team to get adapted into the more refined and delicate 3-5-2. I made some very hard and difficult experiments which were gave me oxygen in the 2nd round of the season. Like using Gomez 2 times out of 11 first games, like introducing Rebic as a key (!!) player and like giving to players like Ryder, Tomovic and Ilicic much more playing time than they could normally deserve. The secret was otherwise -clean dressing rooms & justified internal competition- which helped me to sustain such remarkable feats during the entire season.

FM 2015 FLUT skin v.1.1 [Released 23.11.2014]

Skin for FM 2015 (1920x1080).

I'm pleased to present you the version 1.1 of FM FLUTSkin for FM 15.
This FlutSkin keeps, in general, the style of FMCFlutSkin for FM 2014.
I hope you enjoy it!

A special thanks to rune (from german Meistertrainerforum). As in the previous versions rune plays an important role.

As always I would appreciate if you could tell me when and in what circumstances (or panels) the bugs arise.
This skin was made to work properly in 1920x1080 Full Window. So, some panels don’t work properly in other resolutions (and also in 1920x1080 windowed mode).

In this update I included a folder with some files. If you play the game with hidden attributes or if you prefer the player attributes without the background boxes use that panels (overwrite the originals in the panels folder of the skin).

Beyond lots of small tweaks this version includes a new match post match panel.

DAZS8 has decided to retire from working with FM graphics this season and asked me to take over his Scorpio skin for this year.

Thanks to DazS8 FM Graphics Group

This skin is designed for 1920x1080 resolution. It should work with other resolutions but I don't test every single panel with every possible resolution. If you're using a different resolution and something doesn't display correctly please post your resolution and a screenshot of the issue and I'll do my best to fix it. However, I will NOT fix issues related to using different zoom levels. If you use any zoom level other than 100% you will have problems.

Key features:
  • DF11 compatible
  • Reworked player, staff and club overview panels
  • Background Selector
  • DazS8's Scoreboard included
  • Instant Result Button
  • Added Sidebar Label Version
