FMC FLUT skin for FM 2014 – DARK VERSION v.1.0

Dark Skin, style FMC for FM 2014 (1920x1080)

I'm pleased to present you the version 1.0 of FMC FLUT Skin for FM14 (dark version).

Lots of FM fans asked me for a Dark Version of FlutSkin for FM 2014. So, considering the fact that most of the FM players prefer dark skins… in spite of my preference for white skins, I decided to make the dark version of FlutSkin.

I hope you enjoy it!!!!

In this version (as in white version) I also included the trophies’ graphics from “Champions League skin” of a31632, to whom I want to give recognition.

As always I would appreciate it if you could tell me when and in what circumstances (or panels) the bugs arise.

This skin was made to work properly in 1920x1080.

Welcome to the 8th issue of Football Manager Weekly. It's a digest of the most insightful FM related articles published around the web during the past week. We couldn't deliver an issue last week, so we've included picks for the last 2 weeks in this edition.

Picks and commentary by Stam.

Why Wing-Backs Are Hardly Ideal To Start The Build-Up Play
Guido explains that allowing the wing-backs the time to receive the ball tends to lead to the wing-backs to simply hoofing the ball forward, because all passing options are blocked off. That's a good thing because it means your team will have to press less aggressively to achieve the same idea.

The perfect number nine and ten combination in Football Manager employing a deep lying forward
With Barcelona forward Lionel Messi’s emergence it became a trend in FM and even professional football to use a ‘false nine’, a lone ‘number ten’ without a ‘number nine’ or any other form of advanced forward in support. Messi is unique though and the false nine role is difficult to replicate with another player.

Why A Very Fluid Style Actually Benefits LLM Sides
In an ideal situation there ought to be no more than 25 to 35 metres between the forward line and the defenders. The reason for this is to constrict the space in a vertical sense, hence reducing the distances between players thus making it difficult for the offensive team to pass or dribble through the middle of this compacted space.

How to create a title-winning squad on Football Manager

$
0
0
Every new aspiring manager has dreams of building that title winning side. Whether it be in the depths of English football or at the top, in the Premier League. Whatever it may be some managers just can't find that winning solution that will bring them said success.

Do you want to be able to build a club that has the ability to win any competition at any level? Well this is the guide for you. It will lead you through many several fundamental steps which are key to reaching the goals you are aspiring to.

Evaluate The Squad

Whenever you take control of a new club, it's firstly key to know your players. This is when you will look into the squad and get a general idea of your squad's ability. You might already have plans for your club and where you want to take them in the future, but this step should not be missed as it is a way of knowing the players you have at your disposal.

One thing to do is to look at your players Potential Ability (PA) and their Current Ability (CA). This lets you quickly get an idea of each and everyone of your players' skill level and what they can be worth to your team. This is a basic way of determining their true ability. The other way is to go into each and every player and look at their stats which will give you the idea of their ability. Remember to not judge a player on attributes that do not matter to his position; for example, Pace is not key for a goalkeeper or Tackling is not key for a striker however helpful it may be.

This is the perfect time to learn who you are going to sell and buy, you may have your own ideas but this will help you shift 'Deadwood' who are just soaking up wage budget money and not doing anything which is what you do not want. So get rid of them!
Also you will now know the players you may need to bring in maybe you are short in one or two positions and need depth.

Football Manager Basics: Player Attributes and Roles Explained
Learn what each attribute means and which are the key attributes for each role and duty on the field. Updated for Football Manager 2014!

Every time you start a new save you are asked into an interview. In this interview you are asked by your assistant manager to set up a team meeting. This is a great opportunity for you to speak to the staff and seek their opinion on players etc. Also you can set it up that there is a meeting on a set timeline for recurring meetings. This meeting allows for the staff to make recommendations such as formations to use, set piece takers and also players who may need sold and lastly they also tell you about players who would benefit from tutoring. You may sit their thinking that you do not want to listen to them but that is what they are there for, they are skilled in certain areas, more than you realise. So I would take time to take what they say into consideration as it will in the future help you!

Hopefully this helps you start to Build your team. This information may be basic but it is helpful and most likely effective so use it and take what I have mentioned into consideration as it may be able to help your club in many different ways.

Points to take away:
  • get an idea of each and everyone of your players' skill level and what they can be worth to your team
  • learn who you are going to sell and buy
  • attend the first team meeting

Semi Pro Clubs

This may be a more unusual topic for most who like to go the big clubs but there are many players who enjoy the thrill of taking teams from the bottom tier of that country's football system and take them to the top. However big a challenge this is, it is made harder by the fact that players of these clubs may be on part time contracts as your club also may also be semi professional. Now this is not the end of the world, it's just not great.

You want to get to the next level (Turning pro) as fast as possible to really solidify your players positions and futures at the club. Turning pro will mean you will be able to offer full time contracts to them which clears any uncertainty that surrounded them with just the part time contracts. Always get your key players under contract first. No point in offering contracts to needless players to then get to your star striker and realize you can afford to offer him a contract!

Guide to Lower League Management (LLM)
The definitive guide to managing in the lower leagues. What team to choose? How to handle finances? What players to look for? This (plus a lot more) is what you'll learn in this guide for LLaMas.

Turning pro is essential for growth. This is key to continuing success further up the leagues. Funds will always be tight at this time but it's worth investing into having players on full time contracts. Scottish League 2 is a prime example of clubs with part time players. Most of the time they have to get promoted to become pro which is what you may have to do in the beginning, but that is the harsh reality of managing these clubs.

Now although this section of the guide may be vague it gives you the general idea on what to do in these situations and also a few tips along the way!

Points to take away:
  • turn pro as fast as possible
  • get your key players under contract first
  • accept the fact that LLM can be a harsh challenge

Budget and Finances

The budget and general finance of your club is essential to true success. Having a big transfer budget may be great, but remember what you do with that budget will cause a most likely negative effect on the clubs general financial state unless you are selling players too. But before all this you need to get to get the general idea on the clubs financial state before anything. This will let you determine how much money is coming in and going out, etc. This allows you know your true budget for the 1st window.

In terms of your budget, if it's low and you need to make improvements, sell the Deadwood I spoke about earlier to bring in funds to allow for the desired transfers to go through. Do not strain the budget! What I mean by this is that you can alter the wage budget and transfer budget to accommodate transfers which sometimes can put the club in the red on wage allocation and because you have not got funds to alter this you may find your self stuck! The board are unlikely to grant a new manager more transfer funds without him proving himself to them, so you can rule that option out of the equation!

How to improve your club's finances on Football Manager
Which factors affect club finances? How to keep your balance tight and increase your earnings without cheating? What steps to take? This is what you’ll learn in this guide. Freshly written for FM 2014.

These two paragraph may be short but they contain helpful tips that you should use to ensure that you can have a fun but secure time during the transfer window signing all the players you think will lead your club to glory!

Points to take away:
  • get the general idea on the clubs financial state before anything
  • sell the deadwood
  • do not strain the budget

Revising staff

This, however insignificant it may seem, could be one of the major factors of your club's season. Staff are a vital part of any club's set up and for a club to be successful you need to have good staff. New managers will either want to bring in their own backroom staff who may be better or keep the staff the already have who could be just as good, maybe worse or maybe even better. It's all personal preference.

When you join a new club, you are met by the old assistant manager. This man my be the first out the door as every new manager wants his own assistant. The assistant helps you pick teams, creates opposition instructions if you told him to and much more. He is probably the most interactive and helpful person at your club. So what is the point in having a bad assistant manager, well there is not a point you should really think about getting rid of him for someone new. The same idea applies for each and everyone of your staff and you should follow this module for all positions.

Football Manager 2014 Best Coaches
The ultimate list of the best coaches in FM14 featuring 850 coaches with 4 stars and higher.

If you are a lazy "FM'er" you can set your chairman or other main figures in the club to hire new staff, but you best be ware as they will not be always hiring the best or even needed staff members so watch out for this.

Points to take away:
  • assistant manager is the most interactive and helpful person at your club
  • bring new and better staff with every given chance
  • better not leave the hiring of staff to someone else

Establish Philosophy

Establishing Philosophies can be very important or not very important. Most of the time you are set philosophies by the board at the start of every save. These are the guidelines I guess that they want you to follow, it's the way they want you to control their club in a sense.

The philosophies that are set by the board are what you want to aim to perform, for example develop players using the clubs youth system or Sign high profile players. Following these will help your relationship with the board grow, which is obviously a good thing and it will also help solidify your position at the club. To follow these philosophies is very clear, you do what they tell you and you will be OK!

Mistakes to avoid to keep your job in FM14
A beginner’s guide to surviving the boot on Football Manager 2014.

However some clubs will not offer you Philosophies to follow and at this point it is up to you to decide whether you want to be judged or not. If you already have a game plan that involves a philosophy you may want to ask to be judged on it as if you perform it to a high level, your relationship with the board will be even better than it would be without.

You can obviously go without any philosophies which is not a bad thing and it lets you have a little more control over signings and which players you develop and use in your squad. This may seem like the best option but in reality it's just personal preference, there are advantages and disadvantages with going with and without a philosophy.

Points to take away:
  • when the board sets a philosophy, this is what you want to aim to perform
  • make sure to maintain a good relationship with the board
  • going without a philosophy may be the best option (if you have one)

Searching and scouting

Scouting in football manager is big business. It can help you find the bargains of a lifetime. To do this you can use the highly in depth searching method on football manager to find players and assign players to scout the players further.

You can look for things like contract expiry dates, positions and certain attribute levels, which can be used to find hidden gems who you can get for dirt cheap.
Once you find prospects you see may suit your clubs play style you can assign scouts to scout them which can give you a great idea about their ability and potential.

Football Manager 2014 Top Bargains
Top quality players you can get for a relatively cheap price in FM14. Best bang for your buck!

Players who have been scouted have a report based on them which gives you the potential value of a transfer, potential wage, etc. It also gives you a helpful piece of information on their personality which is key for building a team, as you do not want a player who has a temper mental personality or a controversial personality as they may be more hassle than their worth. But players with personalities like professionalism are great to have as you know they are reliable and won't make a scene when certain things may happen. For example, if he is not getting playing time he will jot leak his discontent to the media, which will leave you in poor light in the public eye.

Knowing players before you buy is key and will possibly save you a lot of time trying to sell the player after you discover that he is a bad Omen for your club.

Points to take away:
  • use the highly in depth searching method on football manager to find players
  • assign scouts on them to get an idea about their ability and potential
  • player personality is key, so avoid players who will cause trouble

Signing New Players

Obviously every manager wants to make their own mark on a club and wants to bring in their players which will lead the club to glory. In order for some players to be purchased some negotiations have to take place because no one wants to pay full price for a player when they could possibly get them for a few million cheaper.

Never go for the first negotiation unless it is extremely reasonable. Most clubs will ask ridiculous prices first time so try negotiating a few times, if this fails to work you could try and unsettle the player by publicly announcing your interest. That will often make him want to join your club and sometimes causes the player him to reject new contracts from his current and possibly cause the player to get transfer listed.

Football Manager 2014 Wonderkids
The most in-depth list of the best young players in FM 2014 with personal recommendation ratings. Over 1,000 of them!

Once a player agrees to join you will have to offer him a contract, things can get messy here. Big name players will often want huge contracts with big bonuses and extravagant clauses which is unacceptable in some cases, as there are only a few players in the world of football that are really worth all of these things. Do not over pay just because you want the big names at your club, it could cause a downfall in many ways inside your club. Always avoid the big clauses for example, yearly wage rises, they can really burn your budgets as a player earning 100,000 p/w with a 20% yearly wage rise could be adding over 3 years more than 60,000 p/w to the wage bill just for one player! To me that is ridiculous. Be smart and really think about if it's worth it.

So building a team can be very risky business when buying players for the team but if you are careful and put time and thought into it you can eventually come out the other end in a much better position, with more money and more than one player!

Points to take away:
  • never go for the first negotiation unless it is extremely reasonable
  • do not over pay just because you want the big names at your club
  • always avoid the big contract clauses because they can burn your budgets

Loans

Loans can make or break a season, usually loans are used by lower league clubs taking players from the bigger clubs who cannot get 1st team football. This allows young players to get first team football and the chance to show their ability to their parent club.

Loans can be used effectively for hidden talents who you can take on loan with a future fee and help them progress, which will mean at the end of the season you can buy them for a fraction of the value which is good business and also is a great way for your club to get players they normally would not be able purchase due to price restraints.

Football Manager 2014 Best Free Players
The ultimate list of the most notable free agents when starting FM14, featuring unparalleled depth and most usable presentation.

Not only do loans open up great chances for a bargain but also the chance to get vital players in for your club who may make or break your season as a manager at that team. Because smaller clubs struggle to attract people who they can sign, they can get talented youngsters who will dominate the league with their superior ability than most others at that level which could possibly lead your club to promotion or even help you avoid relegation.

Loans can also be useful for big clubs. Loans can let you get depth for your club in certain positions without major fees having to be paid, also there is a good opportunity here for you to get in some big name players who are unhappy at their club which gives you the chance to get them to your club for a tiny fee compared to their true value.

Points to take away:
  • get players who normally you couldn't purchase due to price restraints
  • getting talented youngsters is vital for smaller clubs
  • get depth in certain positions without breaking the bank

Training and interaction

Training is a very important part of any club. Without it your team cannot progress and turn into the wonderkids they are tipped to be. To train your players you have different options available to you, for you to know which area your player needs to improve upon. These are staff recommendations and also your assistant manager will help you if you need it. As well as obviously your own opinion.

Staff recommendations are handy as it means you don't need to personally look over every single player and also they will automatically change the training schedule for the player too so it's a win win. These reports that they can give you will change too so the training pattern can change to the players training needs.

The Mentality Ladder: Understanding Fluidity and Duty
This guide analyzes a practical framework for understanding fluidity and duty, which will help you organize a tactic under different fluidity/mentality combinations and give you tips on applying specific tactical settings. Freshly written for FM14.

Your assistant manager can give you reports on players progression, they will do a thing where they can tell you who they see has progressed the most and who has progressed the least. For the players who are not improving I advise you possibly change their training target and maybe speak to them personally.

That leads me to the Interactions with the players. This is a great way to motivate players; discipline them and urge them for many different reasons, you can for example praise them for their recent performances, give them warnings for their conduct or urge them to sign new contracts. Interacting with players can raise their morale which is good for the team as they will perform better when they are happy, so I highly recommend talking to players on a regular basis which will keep you hopefully in their good books and will bring the team together and increase your chances of winning games.

Points to take away:
  • staff recommendations are handy as will automatically adjust training schedule for players
  • speak to the players who are not improving and change their training target
  • interact with your players on a regular basis to raise their morale

Youth development

Youth development is another key method that can be used to build the greatest of teams. This may also be a philosophy that you have been set to live up to and so may be an area you a looking into for advice.

Developing the youth teams can be very effective at bringing through the academy world stars of the future. It can make your club a tonne of money and also help you win titles. To make sure you develop your youth is hiring the best staff for your youth sector which will let you have the best coaching for development and scouting so you can find the best players to put into your development system.

Youth are the future
A Football Manager guide to youth and how to get the most out of them.

After you are happy with players you have you can start to find ways to get them involved in football matches, which you need to happen for the players to be happy and for them to improve. You can use your youth teams, but if they are weak in ability it may not be the best for your future stars. I advise loaning them out to other lower leagued teams to ensure there will be a competitive fight for places and they will be gaining first team football

Points to take away:
  • hire the best staff for your youth sector
  • find ways to get them involved in football matches of the first team
  • loan them out to smaller teams to gain first team football

Fine tuning

To maintain the team you have built is simple. Just look over everything on a regular basis, so maybe once every week or two weeks this leaves enough time for things to change and is not too frequent that you would be wasting your time. Talk to the players and look over their attributes and their thoughts and happiness levels. Monitor the transfer centre, you could find excellent players and then sign them on pre contracts, the same goes for big players. Get an idea over the months about which players are not cutting it and need to be sold.

Understanding Tactics: 11 Basic Principles
The eleven step guide to help kick start your playing experience with Football Manager 2014.

Figure out which areas you want to improve the club as a whole, may that be the clubs facilities or personnel. This information will become clear for you if your are careful and think things through you will lead your club to success. Once you find the effective methods of running the club it will become second nature to you and will and turn into a pretty much automated system.

Points to take away:
  • talk to your players and check on their attributes, thoughts and happiness levels
  • monitor the transfer centre and get an idea who needs to be sold
  • figure out which areas you want to improve the club as a whole

4-4-1-1 Stable

I tried many tactics like every FM player, I can't say it is perfect but I can say, this is the most stable tactic I have ever made.

Training 'intensity level' must be high, like other strong tactics. If you concede more than normal, make your 'main focus' defending.

You will see bigger teams can't come easily.

Find a creative and technical AMC, if you have no AMC, make that position SS and select a striker for that position, it will be enough.

Our goal is just to get the ball to the forward.

The Cynic - Strikerless Counter

$
0
0
Background
I've always been a hopeless romantic of all out offensive football, trying to create tactics based on 'Overload'-mentality and searching for a tactic that will bring me countless goals. Seeing how my teams often had great possession and most of the chances I figured it was just a matter of the last tweaks before I found my perfect formula - believe me, it doesn't exist!

Finally I gave up dream and took The Special One's advice:
'If I want to win 1-0 I think I can, as I think it is one of the easiest things in football. It is not so difficult'.

This tactic is far from my dreams of the perfect offensive monster, but it's also the far most effective one I've ever used in FM. It has turned countless teams around and made them achieve things the squad couldn't even imagine.

The Tactic

I never thought I would be one to implement a tactic without a striker, but the shadow striker seems to be impossible for the opposition to pick up as he always comes running into the area instead of standing there waiting like the average striker.

The secret is basically two functions within the tactic. The first one is very fundamental: a sturdy defense. It's very much a cliche, but finding ways to keep the opposition from scoring year in and year out isn't very easy at all. Almost every season that I've used the tactic, the next best defensive team has conceded almost twice as many goals as my side. The second function is a counter attack mounted from early interceptions high up in the pitch. Most of my tackles are carried out by the midfielders whom makes the middle of the pitch a living hell for the opposition. Once the ball is won my wingers and shadow striker attack the area with full strength and surge into the inevitable cross.

The Players
Just follow the in-game advice for each role. The only position where I think you should consider other attributes is the AMC and in some extent the wingers. As the offense involves a lot of crossing, jumping, heading and bravery may come in handy, as well as pace since it's counter-based.

FM Story Weekly 11/05/14

This is FM Story Weekly, where we round up our selection of stories from the past week. Our intention is to focus on the stories which may have not been included in Story of the Month previously and so are not in the limelight. It is our purpose to promote these stories, as well as review them, in order to give the up and coming writers here a chance to reach the stardom which they are relishing. There will be any amount from 5 - 8 stories included every week, and each aspect of the story will be covered.

Stories For This Week:
Walter's Oriental Lisbon - One Step Closer
fmhunter's Everton FC: Vodka Martinez, Shaken, Not Stirred.
jasonvilla4ever's Manchester United: What The Hell Do We Do Now
TVDLC123' The Red Journey
CarlosV96's My Grandfather's Legacy - The Other Mourinho Takes on Portugal
AaronHJFT96's Napoli - Something Worth Fighting For!

Oriental Lisbon - One Step Closer

If you thought football could not get any crazier, you clearly have not read this story! Portuguese side Oriental Lisbon hired Vitor Martins as their manager in what can be said were truly unusual circumstances. Dead-set on impressing his new boss, Martins set himself the objective of winning the league in one season. There was no time to waste for Vitor as he immediately set about creating a new affiliation with CD Aves of the Second Division. Martins' first real test came against Leixões but his side easily dispatched their opposition to bring a bright start to their first campaign under the new manager.

Walter's writing skills are fantastic and his story is very enjoyable to read. He gives us plenty of information to digest, and he keeps it all very interesting at the same time, which is very hard to accomplish. As this story is still in it's early days, I feel that is perhaps too early to comment fully on the presentation of each update, but I am pleased with what I have seen so far. Walter has also thrown himself in to the world of graphic-making, and his work so far is quite good. Hopefully we can see some more of his graphic making in the future, as it will really add to his story. Overall, I think that Walter's story has the potential to become a real favourite on this site. His work so far has bee tremendous and is sure to be a contender for SotM in the future.

Everton FC: Vodka Martinez, Shaken, Not Stirred.

After the departure of long-lasting manager David Moyes, Everton's chairman Bill Kenwright felt that the young Spanish coach Roberto Martínez was the right man to replace him. He quickly got to work to improve his side for the upcoming side by signing Guerrero and Riera for his squad. News of a new stadium no it's way couldn't overshadow Everton's shaky start to the season, however, and they found themselves 14th after September. Despite long-term injuries to key members of the squad, Martínez's men finally started to find some form and by the end of November, had climbed up to a very respectable 7th position.

fmhunter produces some fantastic content for his story, and his writing is not bad either. He gives us all the facts as we need to know them and he gives us plenty of updates to digest, despite his story being less than a week old. He presents his updates very well, and they are very easy to read and decipher. Graphically, he uses bbcodes very well throughout his story and he makes reading easy for us. This story has a lot of potential and this could be a SotM favourite if fmhunter continues in the same form. Hopefully he can continue improving his story writing abilities, and become a great writer!

Manchester United: What The Hell Do We Do Now

It was all doom and gloom for Manchester United fans as Sir Alex Ferguson retired after a magnificent managerial career in charge of the Red Devils. With a lot of speculation as to who would replace the Scot's big boots, it was Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers who got the job, in a surprise turn of events. (In the past week) Manchester United have kept battling for a top four finish, while also topping their Champions League group. With a lot of ins and outs in January, including the sale of cult hero Wayne Rooney, Utd kept clawing for a top four spot, but dramas involving Solskjaer and Marriner have hurt the club's reputation. Rodgers has a lot to do to rescue Utd's season, can he and his new-look Man Utd team do it?

We get plenty of information from the writer in this story. We find out what players he wants to sign, and what players he wants to leave. He creates a lot of drama, and it isn't bad. He puts a lot of work in to his writing, which you can see, and he has done well. The presentation is quite good and you can follow it easily enough. He uses a lot of pictures, which is good for the visual readers too. Overall, I think the story is quite good. I think that jasonvilla4ever can develop it further, and I wouldn't be surprised if this story earned a rave-review in the future.

The Red Journey

Red Star Belgrade is one of the most historical clubs in football history, and TVDLC123's story does it justice. (In the past week) Red Star has moved to the top of the league with some demolishing domestic victories. The East European club stunned Swansea in a Europa League group match and more good news came when it was announced that their facilities would receive a nice upgrade. The Reds kept up their rampant form and were top of the league after seven games. They are looking to win the league this year and judging by their early season form, it does look likely.

Content makes stories and TVDLC123 gives us plenty of it. We get absolutely fantastic in-depth reports of each game which gives us a true insight in to what happened over the course of the ninety minutes. This style might not appeal to some people, such as those who just wish to skim through results, but there are plenty of people who enjoy reading bulk writing, which is provided here. The graphics for each post are good, although I would like to see a little more to split the writing and to add more colour to the story. I think that this story has potential and it is already a good read.

My Grandfather's Legacy - The Other Mourinho Takes on Portugal

Just from reading the title, I'm already interested in this story. Daniel Mourinho is the son of the world famous manager José Mourinho, although he has never met him. In his pursuit to connect with his father, he takes the reigns of Portuguese third division side Varzim SC. Daniel quickly set about making the club in to his own shape and design. After a cracking start to the season, Varzim were second after five games. However, inconsistency set in and they finished the first phase of the season just outside the top two. With a lot of drama occurring off the pitch in Daniel Mourinho's personal life, you can expect a lot to happen in this story in the future.

I have enjoyed reading this story so far. I think that as a drama story, it has a lot of potential. Content-wise, there is a good bit, but a lot of it is based on the story rather than the save. There is nothing wrong with this, but CarlosV96 just needs to be careful that he is writing through his enjoyment for the save first and foremost, in order to get the most enjoyment out of writing this story. In terms of graphics, Carlos uses a lot of pictures and he uses screenshots very wisely. Overall, I do believe that this story has potential to become a good one, given some time and development. Be sure to watch out for future updates here!

Napoli - Something Worth Fighting For!

Nobody expected Rafa Benítez to be shown the door by Napoli's board so soon after being hired, and nobody expected Roberto Baggio to be hired in his place. The passionate Italian had a vision for I Ciucciarelli. (In the past week) Napoli's fans have been rejoicing in the aftermath of their club's third ever Serie A victory. Reporters have already announced their opinions on Napoli for next season, but none of them are good, surprisingly. however, Baggio is out to prove them wrong and has already brought in Roberto Pereyra, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, Koen Casteels and Dodo in to give his side every chance of holding on to the Serie A title. Can De Azzurri prove their worth in Europe this season and push for the final rounds? We all believe in Baggio's ability to produce!

This is currently one of my favourite stories around. AaronHJFT96 produces brilliant content in some quality writing for us readers and critics. Despite some grammar errors here and there, he is one of the most gifted writers around FM Scout right now and he is proving his worth with every passing update. He has a very unique presentation for his updates, but it is one which I enjoy tremendously. Just like Walter, AaronHJFT96 is beginning to use graphics in his story to improve the visual side of it. I think that this story has a lot of potential to become a SotM candidate in the future.

Napoli - Something Worth Fighting For!

So that is our round-up of FM Stories for this week. I hope that you enjoyed this and if you wrote one of the stories above, that you perhaps learned where you could improve your technique. Just remember, this is just the opinion of myself, the judge, and others could very well have a different opinion. Don't let any criticism put you down, it is all intended to help you! Every story included here is a good one and one everybody enjoys reading.

For those of you who are wondering what each of the grades mean, I will explain.

Content: This is the story itself; the details of what go on in your save and in your story. This involves results, transfers, injuries, conflict, dramas, fiction. Everything you can write about is content. The more relevant content you post, the higher your grade. Also, if you produce a good amount of content, you will also get a high grade.

Writing: How effective is your writing? To ensure that you earn a high grade in the writing category, you need to make sure that you do not have many spelling/grammar mistakes, and that you use language which people can understand but which also catches the imagination of the readers. If you want to keep a loyal audience of readers, you must give them a reason to enjoy your story. Use exciting language, don't bore them.

Presentation: This is how you lay out your updates, especially 'result updates'. It is important that you make your updates easy to read through and make the information/content easy to follow and find. A well-structured story will have more content readers than a sloppy, messy story. Try to give your story order, keep everything easy to follow.

Visual: This is the image side of the story. Do you use enough screenshots/pictures? People will get bored of a story which consists of just large chunks of text. To keep your story colourful, a good banner and high-quality resolution screenshots are in order. On top of that, you can use graphics which you can make in Photoshop/GIMP/Others to keep your story fresh and exciting. Readers enjoy well-made graphics, and they can really give you a good fanbase.

Overall: This is the mark for your story as a whole. It isn't affected totally by other categories, as some are more important than others. If you are scoring four stars or higher, you have a brilliant story. Three stars to three and a half stars is a good story, while anything below is a work-in-progress. Don't be disheartened if you are not hitting the high grades. The best thing about story writing here is that you can always improve, no matter how skilled or how old you are. Keep working hard and your story will improve, which only leads to more readers, more praise and more recognition.

4-2-2-2 Four Playmakers

Few days ago I decided to play with 14.3 patch and try to implement tactic for my favorite formation 4-2-2-2.

Also I tried to implement some new ideas, which are not common for this type of formation. To be successful with this tactic you need to have fast advanced forwards who have high scoring abilities and 2 central defenders with decent speed and high concentration to avoid any mistakes.

Match preparation and training-all of this is handled by my assistant manager who needs to have high motivation and level of discipline.

Tellak's Tiki-Taka Tactic for FM14

I've created this tactic early and passed it to several members who asked me to, but didn't share it on the site for public use until now. I've tested it with various teams and it's working great for me and for everyone else I've passed it to.

I started new saves using 14.3 with Barca and Viitorul Constanta and tested for 6 months each, the tactic still works great. Now I'm currently using it with Viitorul and have won all the games in the 1st half of the season (check screenshots below).

It's important to understand that you might need at least 6 months for the players to really get into the tactic; even for Barca this tactic is a bit extreme.

Some Tips

For the inside forwards you need players with opposite preferred foot to their position.

You must have players with good anticipation, composure, concentration, decisions, off the ball, teamwork and work rate. "Good" is relative to how good the opposition teams are, but usually 14+ is excellent. Passing is important just for players who will make through passes, basically the MCR (your playmaker).

It's recommended to have players with 2 specific PPM: "plays one two" and "comes deep to the ball". If your players don't have these, you should train them for that. The central defenders don't need these though.
Also the MCR (playmaker) will benefit from having the "dictates tempo" PPM.

For team-talks I usually go with a passionate approach, but if you have a good assistant manager let him handle it.
No need for opposition instruction.

Training: fitness-hard in the preseason, and balanced-average in season.
Match training: tactic at 20% in season, max in preseason.

Radomir Antic - The tactics of Serbian Wonder Maker

$
0
0
We are at the end of 2008... Serbia lives in misery on and off the field. After the provocative and false self declaration of Kosovo for independence, the country is in the verge of a third civil war since 1991. Protests everywhere in all around the country, negative and pessimistic comments everywhere. The national currency of RSD (Serbian dinar) has dropped down 20% by moving from 80-1 with euro into 102-1. The situation is not better in Serbian FA. Elections after elections, scandals after scandals and 3 different coaches in less than 1 year.

The least and most failed was over promoted Miroslav Djukic who made huge career as a former central defender and who paid off his outstanding performances with u-21 in the final by reaching into the final of the competition. He worked after in Partizan by introducing players like Smiljanic, Jovetic and co. However, the national team was a massive failure for him and for whole country. After the huge fiasco in Olympic Games of 2008 in Beijing the country was in the verge of undisclosed football crisis. Red Star was one step before or after bankruptcy and National Team was completely abandoned.

Despite the high flourish in youngsters, nobody wanted to play due to corruption from previous FA Boards. Terzic then FA President, Curkovic ex president of Partizan, Ceca Raznatovic, Dragan Dzajic and Dragan Stojkovic have built a monster of illegal football trade by making overrated transfers and by over selling players with illegal money making damage to both clubs and FA. Karadzic the new President of FA sent all of them into jail and he installed a new coach in the wheel of National Team, his personal friend Radomir Antic. Stojkovic escaped from jail due to connections with Karadzic and thanks to the fact that he was working far away in Japan.

Antic was several years unemployed and everybody saw with skepticism his hiring. "Another pensioner on helm", "Another friend of corrupted FA", "Karadzic helps his friends above all", "New Installation of Friends System", "Partizan leads FA of Serbia", "Why we need to hire a pensioner", "Serbia goes back, Antic took over", "The forgotten strategist in the helm of National Team, Embarrassment".

Antic had to face many protests in his first press conference as a Serbian Selector.
Boos and curses were publicly told from well known journalists. Zoran Stojadinovic publicly said to him "You are forgotten and you don't deserve to be here, you are a lost man". Antic laughed publicly, he appreciated all the comments and he started to work with smile by making deep thinking sarcastic comment like "Many Serbian coaches have won a championship title in Spain, especially with Atletico. What a modesty...", "You don't like my job, I know it. Why you don't continue to trust the people before me then?".

The responses came with a hard manner on the pitch. Friendly victories of 1-0, 2-0 were the initial but humble results of the work of "Don Radomir". He immediately selected 23-25 players as a basic core declaring publicly "I need to work with stability and precision like in a club's job. I don't need to promote players and to make experiments. National team needs very serious and careful job and the players will be the best and most experienced as possible. The door is open to everybody though, if they work hard enough". Isolated players from Serbian football system became star members of the team like Krasic, Lane Jovanovic, Danko Lazovic, Aco Lukovic and he introduced among others Bisevac and some back then exciting talents like Rasha Petrovic, Ljajic, Zoran Tosic and Dejan Lekic.

He avoided any conflict by damaging his reputation as a tough disciplinarian. The press often called him "Vatrogasac" which means "Fire Dert". The world cup qualifiers were a massive success by forcing the powerhouse France into 2nd position of the group and by qualifying directly to Africa. Krasic earned a top paid move into Juventus thanks to Antic "The coach brought me in the first line of the spotlight and thanks to him Juventus saw me. I appreciate him and I deeply thank him." Another one famous ex-anarchist from Serbian media told "Antic made me to earn a transfer to Liverpool, he is a god for me - a fantastic person" -words of Lane Jovanovic who has the sad record of 4 cruciate ligaments surgeries. "Thanks to Antic I earned the best contract in my career"-by Aca Lukovic, another one forgotten player from Mafia Serbian System.

I must say all of these because I am obliged to my conscience. I am obliged to make true what I believe as a person and as a worker. I installed in Serbia around 2009 for studying and working reasons and I lived there 4 years. Apart from the knowledge that I gained in various fields ,such as language and management learning, I faced off the core of the society by walking endlessly into the dark streets of Beograd and by chatting with unlimited people on and off work. No matter the occupation or the education, I was made off in the streets by making application of my ideas and actions. Not easy, but not impossible though. It was well deserved finally.

Radomir Antic had a huge and remarkable career as a football coach by not coaching never ever in his native country. He found a new coaching land in Spain and as he publicly said "I am proud and happy for what I did in my life. But when I was in Spain it was very tough for me to handle the situation. I had to study the culture, the history, the language and to get affirmed there. Everybody was wondering, what has to do a Serb here?Where is his country? Why he cannot work there? Why he cannot coach in his land " ...and he continues "I was loving always physical education, physiology, anatomy, pedagogy, psychology and nutrition and that's why I was educated enough to understand many people around, I loved to study and to work as a coach wherever I was and you dear students, try to do the same because you will enjoy this tiring trip and finally at the end of the day you will be happy". Antic told these after a lecture in Sports University of Belgrade.

His biography speaks by its own and I don't need to explain furthermore details. Simply I am obliged to my conscience to analyse and to lighten up some sides who were very bright but not so promoted. Everybody has a tense to promote the bright side of the life, but the dark face of the tired worker, of the tired constructor, of the tired worker is the one who brings the light of the sun to us. Heroes and superstars are not every Madonna and Beyonce, but the soldiers who go to the war, the unsung heroes, the people who wake up at 3 am to earn a dish of food and the unemployment youngsters who dare to try every possible occupation and and job in order to gain a better future. Because simply, life is not for everybody. Someone enjoys his Mercedes and someone else like Radomir Antic goes to China in his 68 because he still has the passion for work.

The FM14 Tactics

I attach you here two albums and I live the images to speak by themselves. In the first occasion I transformed destroyed Serbian National Team into a very respected team and in the second case, I made R.Sociedad the second team of Spain by moving them 13 places in my first and only season in charge.

I give two very practical tips and whole the rest are up to you:

Use by selecting all players of opponent:
always closing down, tackling hard, showing up weaker foot

Switch mentalities from range balanced-control-attack. Avoid defensive and overload tactics. The tactics are very resilient by themselves and don't need radical modification, just switch a bit the mentality when it's necessary.

You don't have to use stereotype players in every position. Use your fantasy and make the characteristics of the players accompanied with each position that you may need. The images with Serbian National Team speak by themselves.

PS - Some hard words for SI games

* It's unacceptable and insulting the fact that you reject to use club engine for national teams, with that way you underestimate the influence and impact of National Football teams, unless you are lazy to make it to work.

* It's extremely uncool to restrict and eventually to cut off every possible communication into the National teams, by not using the same pattern like in the club level.

* It's tragic that the National Team coach cannot make a proper training and to hold proper team chats or team meetings, or staff meetings like you do in the club level.

* It's embarrassing to speak out for realism and to cut off every sense of realism in the level of national teams.

* The tactical pattern is unsuitable for football coaching game because the absence of bill board tactical orders is more than obvious. You cannot set up team plays, you cannot put your players as you should or as you want and whole tactical procedure is virtually and completely vague. The orders should be followed after having make the proper justifications in the tactical pattern in order to make your players more familiar to the tactical pattern.

* The continuous underestimation of tactical coaching procedure, relegates the game into a cheap and modest management game which has very few coaching points anymore.

* You promote and support over organised and over organisation in both game structure and club structure level by rejecting at the same time every notion regarding the improvement of coaching ,tactical and football environment in generally.

FM14 Legends of 80s

The following patch regards leagues and teams dating from the season 1979 onward. This date was used as a reference point to catch up with some players at the dawning of their careers such as Gerd Muller, and some others at their beginnings such as Maradona. We're talking about players born approximately between 1948-1964, and not above. It would be foolish to see Platini as a teammate of Zidane (the purpose is to conquer titles with the good teams back then). The database covers around 7,000 footballers of that golden era.

The rosters are real, there are leagues with teams of that era, the three European cups involving the participating countries back then (for example there are no teams from Ukraine, Slovakia, Croatia) but they're included in countries like USSR, Yugoslavia, West Germany etc. We have in place the limit of 2 or 3 foreign players, the old point system of 2-1-0 and maximum roster limit from 23 to 25 individuals, as well as some future transfers remained in history.

The database was created over the existing one to prevent crashing, so it's important that you add photos of 80s players (around 3,600) in order for their profiles to not show the pics of players from today.

We have the old club logos, using stadiums of that era such as Comunale-Juventus, coaches from that time, as well as the pics of the old kits.
Included for the first time the NASL with teams in the likes of NY Cosmos with Pele, Beckenbauer, and other major aces.

#1 Milton Keynes Dons: Writing History

Milton Keynes Dons are certainly not one of the most loved clubs in English football these days. Even years after their relocation from Wimbledon the club still has quite a shadow over its name. Despite this, Karl Robinson doesn't care. His side have begun their Sky Bet League One campaign terrifically, consistent performances from the team as a whole mean that MK Dons being a Sky Bet Championship team next season is a real possibility.

Rablador’s writing is informative and enjoyable at the same time. He twists little bits of humour in to his updates and he keeps the reader thoroughly interested. His layout is nice and easy on the eye and his use of colour and pictures is also very good. Rab’s style is somewhat different to the normal kind of updates you would see on the site, with his being almost in the style of an article, but at the same time being a normal diary entry. He hasn't used graphics very much, apart from his results update but his writing more than makes up for it. His use of quotes at the bottom of every update is a very little, but funny touch to a growing story.

#2 The Young Americans [Leyton Orient]

After flying to the Sky Bet League One title, and the Sky Bet Championship title, Tom Northwood’s Leyton Orient side were thrust into the promised land of the Premier League and made a positive start in their first season with the big boys, achieving safety. Northwood set about creating a team that gels and that can become a Premier League Team for a long time to come. There was drama as Northwood was whisked away in a car and met his old boss, Barry Hearn, who revealed to him that he was to be the new manager of the USA National Team!

Northwood tells his story from his own point of view and he really has taken us on this remarkable journey with him. He gives us great updates about life with the ‘O’s’ on the pitch and he entwines this, more recently, with a non-football story line outside of life in the Orient dugout – and perfectly mixed, too. His storyline updates keep us on our toes and he creates a lot of drama. Meanwhile, his results updates and football-related posts are easy to read and very informative. Northwood uses his screenshots well, and despite a few English errors here and there (because this language isn’t his first, I don’t think) his story is one that is very underrated.

#3 Brighton & Hove Albion – The Flight Of The Gulls

Donald Vaughan is an unknown name in the world of football – especially in the Sky Bet Championship. Yet despite this, the Brighton & Hove Albion board have seen faith in the 27-year old to lead them where Oscar Garcia couldn’t: The Premier League. Vaughan set off to work quickly, concluding deals early on in the transfer window and tying up contracts for a number of players. Preseason started brightly, despite two draws Brighton managed to win the rest of their games and look like making a good start to their league campaign.

It may only be early days for LFC’s story but he’s got off to a good start. His writing isn’t long but it is a perfect length to be able to digest enough information whilst having a good read at the same time. His use of banners and graphics so far has been great and his writing flows very well making it easy for the reader to just quickly get through his posts without being bored but still getting the information the update presents. As I said before, early days for this story but it looks like it has some potential.

#4 Luton Town – The Path To Power

It’s been a marvellous two seasons for Ryan Ferguson’s high-flying Luton Town side. After securing consecutive titles The Hatters are now on a mission to make it three in the Sky Bet League One. The one question is, can they do it without Scottish striker and Player of the Year Euan Smith, who signed a new contract with parent club Hibernian? We may not know, but Ferguson sure will!

Justice’s story is one that is gaining a lot of plaudits lately. He is complete in his use of graphics and text, making it easy for readers to take in the update and give them a flashy graphic to look at. His variety of update styles, including interviews, overviews and even some off topic posts, like new kits, off the field incidents and a whole load more, this story offers everything.

#5 Stockport County – Hattering Heights

Stockport manager Alan Lord is injured in a car crash days after leading his side back into the Skrill Premier. Unknown manager Josh Slater is handed the job. Faced by the wrath of supporters, Slater is on a mission to prove his worth to the Stockport faithful and cement his place in the dugout for seasons to come.

Josh_MU is a very good writer and his media reports are always written with a sense of professionalism and always feel like you’re reading the real thing. His layout is good and his use of pictures is also up to scratch. Josh’s start has been great, and despite only three updates to date, he’s already made sure his story is one that could potentially reach the heights of his England story.

#6 AC Milan – True Legends Never Die

Or Dabool has been given the Milan job, in an attempt to rescue a giant that looks to be falling out of the limelight very quickly. With a couple of smart signings, Dabool manages to change the Rossoneri’s fortunes and, despite an out of the blue loss to Juventus, his Milan side sit atop the Serie A table a full ten points clear of their nearest rival. Could Dabool’s Milan be on the way to their first of many silverware?

or.dabool is not unknown to many of us on this site, and this FM14 reincarnation of his FM13 story with Milan is one of the site’s most promising. The writing is very nice, and the presentation is neat and tidy. Everything is easy on the eye and or has made a fantastic start to his story. It’s still early days but there are big expectations for this story!

#7 Tottenham Hotspur: Back To Basics

Ossie Ardiles is a name etched into the heart of every Spurs fan. The diminutive Argentine’s comeback not as a player but now as the manager is sure to impress supporters and pundits alike. After some top notch signings, Ardiles’ Spurs side made an alright start but only after a 7-0 annihilation of Manchester City did things really kick on! Can Ardiles’ side maintain this form, though, is something that fans will be asking themselves.

TodayAtTomorrow does a great job of getting information across and presenting in a smart and professional manner. The layout is alright, but could be worked on. The writing flows nicely and means the audience can read through it without getting bored and getting the message that’s being sent. This story is one for the future, and once it gets going it could be a highly popular one within the website!

#8 My Grandfather’s Legacy – The Other Mourinho Takes On Portugal*

Daniel Mourinho’s world has been twisting and turning and sending him in all different directions. Daniel’s grandfather suddenly passed away and it was soon revealed that the cause of his death was his own son, Jose! Daniel’s father finally meets him and in an emotional encounter they work out a plan to get Mourinho Jr. the job he was undeservingly sacked from!

CarlosV96’s story was on here last week, but I thought because so much has happened in the week between these two posts that his story deserves to go back up here again. The writing is excellent and Carlos provides drama and excitement in his story, although, like Justice said last week he has to also make sure he doesn’t go completely off track.

Football Manager Basics: Staff Attributes and Training Ratings Explained

$

0
No football team is successful without backroom staff. They are the ones who get the players both physically and mentally ready for any match but they don't get the credit they deserve. Backroom staff are possibly one of the key parts to any football team, but you need make sure you have the best possible staff members who know their trade well. Depending on what area they are best at such as fitness or goalkeeping, you need to choose the best possible candidate at that particular attribute, and in this article you will see each staff attribute and what they do.

There are 17 visible staff attributes and even more hidden attributes. Our main focus will be on the visible ones of course, but we'll do a quick round-up of the hidden ones as well just to give you an idea. Depending on what kind of staff role someone it utilized at, you would want that attribute to be as close to 20.

The coaches
If the training process ends with fitter, better players then it starts with getting your coaching set-up right. Look at their attributes to determine their proficiency in each of the training areas and allocate them to routines that suit their skills. Clearly, if you are at a smaller club, you may not have the resources to fund a range of coaches. But, regardless of your current set-up, it pays to understand how coaches work and how their ability to improve your players can be hampered or improved.

The ideal setup is to have 5 star ratings in each training category, reflecting the fact that you have a top coach in each discipline. A very good coach who is assigned to just the one category will give you 5 stars if his coaching rating is high in that area. The more categories that he is assigned to, the lower his rating will be for each category. For example if you have a coach with a rating of 20 for attacking coaching, you will get a 5 star rating for Attacking if he is assigned only to this category. If you assign him to 2 categories you may only get a 4 star rating. If you assign him to all of the categories, you may only get 1 or 2 stars.

You also need to make sure the workload isn't too high otherwise players will suffer from not getting enough attention. We'll talk about coaching rating in more detail later.

Coaching Attributes

ATTACKING
Competency at coaching attacking football. A higher attribute doesn't necessarily indicate a preference for attacking football, but merely that they're quite good at it.

What does this attribute affect:
Passing, Creativity

COACHING GOALKEEPERS
Ability to coach goalkeeping fundamentals and beyond. A higher attribute means the coach is better at coaching goalkeepers to the higher levels. This attribute has essentially the same weight for both goalkeeping training areas: shot stopping and handling.

What does this attribute affect:
Aerial Ability, Handling, Kicking, Throwing, One on Ones

DEFENDING
Ability to coach a defensive game. Higher ratings indicate a proficiency in working well on the defensive side of the game.

What does this attribute affect:
Tackling, Marking, Concentration

FITNESS
This reflects a coach's ability to work on the fitness side of the game, and as such should be one of the key attributes to look at when hiring a Fitness Coach, and less importantly, a Physio. This attribute has essentially the same weight for both fitness training areas: strength and aerobic.

What does this attribute affect:
Natural Fitness, Stamina, Strength, Work Rate (strength) - Acceleration, Agility, Balance, Jumping, Pace, Reflexes (aerobic)

MAN MANAGEMENT
How well the member of staff is able to deal with those around him and particularly below him. This is a mental approach; a high attribute indicates a coach who is capable of organizing and keeping people happy.

What does this attribute affect:
Doesn't affect any player attributes, but it's useful for assistant managers, directors of football and heads of youth development

MENTAL
Staff mental approach to players. A good mental coach will be able to observe and act upon each individual's state of mind and react accordingly.

What does this attribute affect:
Partly affects the ball control training area which subsequently affects: Dribbling, First Touch, Technique, Flair, Heading

TACTICAL
How tactically astute person is. More tactically astute coaches will not only be able to coach the tactical side of the game more effectively but any advice they may offer is likely to be more accurate and informative.

What does this attribute affect:
Anticipation, Decisions, Positioning, Movement, Teamwork, Command of Area (tactics). Also partly affects two more training areas: defending (Tackling, Marking, Concentration) - attacking (Passing, Creativity)

TECHNICAL
The ability of the coach to teach the technical side of the game - work with the ball. This can be one of the hardest areas to coach and it may be that a former player is particularly useful here.

What does this attribute affect:
Partly affects two training areas: ball control (Dribbling, First Touch, Technique, Flair, Heading) - shooting (Finishing, Long Shots, Composure)

WORKING WITH YOUNGSTERS
How successful a coach is at working with younger players - those aged 18 and under in particular. Having a coach who is very good at nurturing young talent can be priceless if just one or two of them develop into useful players.

What does this attribute affect:
Doesn't affect any player attributes, but it's useful for assistant managers, youth coaches and heads of youth development

Mental Attributes

The most important attributes here are what we call DDM: Determination, Discipline, Motivating. If a staff member has high ratings in these 3 attributes, it means he has 20%-30% chance of being a great coach.

ADAPTABILITY
A high Adaptability attribute will enable the staff member to settle quickly predominantly in a new country but also will help a little in settling in at new clubs and new roles. The faster (i.e. higher rating) a member of staff can adapt to their new working environment, the quicker and better they can do their job.

What does this attribute affect:
Doesn't affect any player attributes

DETERMINATION
The mental desire of the coach to succeed. This isn't a coaching attribute in terms of coaching a player's mental approach - this is the coach himself and their own innate drive to better themselves.

What does this attribute affect:
Partly affects ALL coaching areas by 7% to 10%

The next 2 attributes are vastly important for scouts. When employing a scout, Judging Player Ability/Potential attributes are the first things you should look at. High attribute ratings in these two areas will most likely result in more accurate scouting reports. At the very top levels, a rating of 15 in these attributes would be considered the minimum requirement, but as you go down the ladder, a good scout can be a highly valuable commodity.

JUDGING PLAYER ABILITY
Judging Ability is important if you have assigned a scout to watch players you intend to bring in or are scouting upcoming opponents.

What does this attribute affect:
Doesn't affect any player attributes

JUDGING PLAYER POTENTIAL
Judging Potential is more important for the scouts you intend to assign to identifying the next generation of footballing talent.

What does this attribute affect:
Doesn't affect any player attributes

LEVEL OF DISCIPLINE
This reflects the level of discipline the coach is likely to take in his approach. A higher attribute means that the coach will take up a harder line in his approach and keep things strict. A lower one means the coach is a little more relaxed.

What does this attribute affect:
Partly affects ALL coaching areas by 7% to 10%

MOTIVATING
The mental ability of a coach to motivate his players. High motivation will allow the coach to suitably pump his players up not only for a big match, but also in an everyday sense - keeping a squad motivated towards their goals is imperative.

What does this attribute affect:
Partly affects ALL coaching areas by 7% to 10%

PHYSIOTHERAPY
This attribute is exclusively for use with Physios. Having a Physio with a high rating in this attribute is something you should always look to have. If possible, have at least three Physios with high ratings for this attribute to ensure your players receive high-quality treatment to both prevent and rehabilitate injuries.

What does this attribute affect:
Doesn't affect any player attributes

TACTICAL KNOWLEDGE
Their experiences in the game, where they've been and who they've worked with will affect the level of knowledge they have, and when using this knowledge they may have ideas lesser coaches haven't become familiar with, which is an advantage.

What does this attribute affect:
Doesn't affect any player attributes, but it's useful for assistant managers especially when you go on holiday and let them take over matches

Hidden Attributes

There are more hidden/unknown attributes for staff than there are visible and they are grouped in 4 different areas: tactical, non-tactical, chairman, mental traits. I'll do a quick round-up of them without getting into detail just for you to realize there's more than meets the eye with staff members.

Tactical Attributes

These are related to the way a staff member would approach a match if he/she was to be the manager. What each of them means is quite obvious.
Attacking, Depth, Directness, Flamboyancy, Flexibility, Free Roles, Marking, Offside, Pressing, Sitting Back, Tempo, Use Of Playmaker, Use Of Substitutions, Width

Non-Tactical Attributes

Only 4 attributes here and again pretty obvious as to what they mean.
Buying Players, Hardness Of Training, Mind Games, Squad Rotation

Chairman Attributes

These apply only to chairmen.
Business, Interference, Patience, Resources

Mental Attributes

These are identical to most of the hidden attributes for players.
Adaptability, Ambition, Controversy, Loyalty, Pressure, Professionalism, Sportsmanship, Temperament

Key Attributes for each Training Area

There are 10 attributes which affect the star rating of coaches for all 9 training areas.
These are the following:
  • Attacking
  • Defending
  • Fitness
  • Goalkeepers
  • Mental
  • Tactical
  • Technical
  • Determination
  • Level of Discipline
  • Motivating

The last 3 (Determination, Level of Discipline, Motivating) are important for all training areas and we'll refer to them as DDM from now on.

More specifically, we know from an older article (5 stars training in Football Manager 2011 - Credit to BonzoLLM) the formula that can distinguish a great coach from a good one.

Fitness training has 2 areas (Strength and Aerobic) and both of them work with the same equation:

(Fitness * 9 + DDM * 2) / 60 + 0.5

In order to have 5 stars in fitness training, a coach would need to score at least 270 points between the parenthesis, so:

Fitness * 9 + DDM * 2 >= 270 =

Goalkeeping training also has 2 areas (Shot Stopping and Handling) and both of them work with the same equation:

(Goalkeepers * 2 + DDM) / 60 + 0.5

In order to have 5 stars in fitness training, a coach would need to score at least 90 points between the parenthesis, so:

Goalkeepers * 2 + DDM >= 90 =

Tactics training works with this equation:

(Tactical * 2 + DDM) / 60 + 0.5

In order to have 5 stars in tactics training, a coach would need to score at least 90 points between the parenthesis, so:

Tactical * 2 + DDM >= 90 =

Ball Control training works with this equation:

(Technical * 6 + Mental * 3 + DDM * 2) / 60 + 0.5

In order to have 5 stars in ball control training, a coach would need to score at least 270 points between the parenthesis, so:

Technical * 6 + Mental * 3 + DDM * 2 >= 270 =

Defending training works with this equation:

(Defending * 8 + (Tactical + DDM) * 3) / 60 + 0.5

In order to have 5 stars in defending training, a coach would need to score at least 360 points between the parenthesis, so:

Defending * 8 + (Tactical + DDM) * 3 >= 360 =

Attacking training works with this equation:

(Attacking * 6 + Tactical * 3 + DDM * 2) / 60 + 0.5

In order to have 5 stars in defending training, a coach would need to score at least 270 points between the parenthesis, so:

Attacking * 6 + Tactical * 3 + DDM * 2 >= 270 =

Shooting training works with this equation:

(Technical * 6 + Attacking * 3 + DDM * 2) / 60 + 0.5

In order to have 5 stars in shooting training, a coach would need to score at least 270 points between the parenthesis, so:

Technical * 6 + Attacking * 3 + DDM * 2 >= 270 =

Key Attributes for Other members of the Staff

I think it's obvious that a good Scout basically needs 2 attributes:
  • Judging Player Ability
  • Judging Player Potential
And a good Physio essentially needs 1 attribute:
  • Physiotherapy
A good Director of Football and a good Head of Youth Development need:
  • DDM
  • Scout abilities
  • Working With Youngsters
