Thoughts on FM14 by Shrew

With FM15 just around the corner, FM Scout have asked me to write a few words on FM14. I've been a fairly vocal critic of 14 for quite some time now, in fact in an unprecedented moment of cathartic liberation I uninstalled the bloody thing back in June and haven't looked back since; so it will come as no surprise to anyone that knows me that this is largely a negative review of the game.

I may have played over 700 hours of FM14 but, for me, it's just a bad game. Only once uninstalling and going back to FM13 did I realise that I didn't actually enjoy playing FM14 that much, I simply played out of habit and a vain hope that the next patch would fix the quite terrible match engine.

With the new FM15 features announced recently, I've been party to a few discussions about its prospects. My usual answer is that we can't tell what 15 will be like until we play it because, as with every iteration of the series, it all comes down to the match engine - and it is this which made FM14 so poor. With the removal of sliders and the full-blooded commitment to the roles system, FM14 saw a significant shift in how the player can influence a match. A shift that, in my opinion, has made the game regress.

The removal of sliders and the limitations in personal instructions that can be given to a player make the game more restrictive, less flexible and ultimately less enjoyable. There is precious little customisation available in tactical instructions outwith the rather rigid parameters that are available in the roles. The introduction of the Raumdeuter in FM15 proves this nicely. I'd never heard of the Raumdeuter before and I guess most hadn't - apparently it was invented by Thomas Müller to describe his own role. So, in essence, SI are saying that you can't create instructions in the FM14 system which would reflect how the second top scorer at the World Cup plays... and so they have to introduce a new role specifically for just one player.

For many people, this sort of restriction won't matter, in fact it may make the game more accessible to significant numbers; but there will be many who, like me, find this inflexibility frustrating at best, game-breaking at worst. Anyway, my views on sliders are well covered by my article in Clear Cut Chance but it is an indication of the future of the game and the path the developers wish to take.

SI want to, quite understandably for marketing reasons, open up the game to a broader audience but it feels like their focus in doing this is all wrong for me. In a football simulation, the focus should almost entirely be on the match. Not the "match experience" with pre-game press conferences and graphics of ballboys round the pitch - the actual match, 22 men kicking the ball around in as realistic a manner as possible. FM13 was very good but somehow 14 managed to take a huge backwards step - introducing more of the frustrating in-match events that make a mockery of SI's claim that the game is as realistic as possible.

Maybe I'm in the minority. Maybe the match engine isn't everyone's main focus. Maybe people are happy that their fullbacks fail to defend the channels so long as they grow moustaches during November. Maybe people are happy for players to ignore a ball 5 yards from their feet so long as there's a picture of a burger van outside the stadium. Maybe people are happy that strikers never play a square ball across the 6 yard box so long as they can give their manager a second preferred club.

I appreciate that I am more cynical than most when it comes to FM and SI but all of these new "features" that get announced every year are filler. A distraction, some of them are little more than gimmicks. SI have to get the match engine right this year or the loyal fans like myself who were so put off by the abysmal engine in 14 may just give up. Of course, maybe they won't care. Maybe the constant move to a UI that is clearly aimed at porting to the tablet market will bring in more new players than are lost by their failure to focus on the basic mechanics of the game. Maybe the celebrity endorsements and curious mixture of hipster appeal and 'banter' (sigh) culture that pervade the latest versions will bring in new sales and old grumps like me will be left with our memories of sliders, wibble/wobble and better times.

Or, just perhaps, FM15 will actually be quite good and I'll be left looking rather silly. After all, the "odd year" versions of the past have traditionally been the best copies - FM09, FM11, FM13... is FM15 next? Is this part of the problem with a game that is released annually? There is no requirement for each version to be optimised as it's "only a year" until that can "be put right". Are we just paying £30 a year for a rolling beta? Well that's a discussion for another time...

Football Management Games Before Football Manager

The football management market was started by addictive games with the game ‘Football Manager (1982 series)’ launched for Atari and went on to produce a series making Football Manager World Cup Edition for Italia 90. In Football Manager 2 Addictive Games launched something that would take the football management market by storm , the ability to edit teams kits and players giving the game your own customized feel, Football Manager 2 Expansion was born. Football Manager 3 was a disappointment with the original developers falling out leading to the end of the franchise.

Premier Manager was launched by a Spanish company in 1992 for the start of the Premier League era and is still being produced to this year but it is not a very popular version and is only found online and has been banned by the Ministry of Culture in China because Premier Manager 2005 regarded places such as Tibet and Hong Kong as separate states.

Pro Evolution Soccer Management was released on March 24, 2006. It was the second football management game in the Pro Evolution Soccer series. However it wasn't an instant hit an demand was low for it with the emergence of Football Manager and mostly due to the high quantity of unlicensed features in the game. some fans of Pro Evolution Soccer and Konami consider Let's Make a Soccer Team! as a sub-sequel, due to its similarities and familiar feel.

Championship Manager series was born in 1993 and was the first competitor which saw the end of Football Manger 1982 , it launched its first game CM in ‘93 and wasn't a very good success but as FM1982 failed CM rose to the heights of market leader and launched its Championship Manager Italia aimed at the Italian fans and showed Serie A and Serie B and proved an instant hit with CM releasing two updates for the two following updates, the art of transfer updates without buying the next years game was born. Cm 97/98 was the real first game that showed what football management games would be like in the future with multiple leagues being able to be loaded and many new rules such as the Bosman ruling and stadium pictures included.

FM14 Legends of 80s

The following patch regards leagues and teams dating from the season 1979 onward. This date was used as a reference point to catch up with some players at the dawning of their careers such as Gerd Muller, and some others at their beginnings such as Maradona. We're talking about players born approximately between 1948-1964, and not above. It would be foolish to see Platini as a teammate of Zidane (the purpose is to conquer titles with the good teams back then). The database covers around 7,000 footballers of that golden era.

The rosters are real, there are leagues with teams of that era, the three European cups involving the participating countries back then (for example there are no teams from Ukraine, Slovakia, Croatia) but they're included in countries like USSR, Yugoslavia, West Germany etc. We have in place the limit of 2 or 3 foreign players, the old point system of 2-1-0 and maximum roster limit from 23 to 25 individuals, as well as some future transfers remained in history.

The database was created over the existing one to prevent crashing, so it's important that you add photos of 80s players (around 3,800) in order for their profiles to not show the pics of players from today.

We have the old club logos, using stadiums of that era such as Comunale-Juventus, coaches from that time, as well as the pics of the old kits.
Included for the first time the NASL with teams in the likes of NY Cosmos with Pele, Beckenbauer, and other major aces.

Sports Interactive have confirmed only a handful of facts regarding Football Manager 2015 so far, most important one being that FM15 will be released in November. In previous years we used to have the announcement revealing at least the key new features of the next FM version during July or August. FM Documentary is a 70 mins movie that was screened in cinemas around UK (and in selected places around EU) for the first time on Tuesday, October 7th. The FM15 new features video, made its debut on that day as well (after the documentary at cinemas & on Twitch).

Miles Jacobson:
Our target is having at least a thousand new features in the game every year... but we'll only do that if there are good ideas that we still want to keep adding in.

More detail on FM 2015's major new features

Completely redesigned User Interface

Everything about FM15 will feel and look different. This new user interface is a departure from the designs of old, and whilst there is a sidebar, all of the key panels are now located there which means smaller and more section drop down menus for each area of the game. The new user interface is much easier and faster to navigate around. They'll be things that you'll find that have been in the game for a while but were hidden before. It's also neater and increases the amount of screen space that we can use for those with lower resolutions. An example of the new navigation can be found at the home screen, which acts as the hub for responsibilities, information and actions relating solely to you, the manager.

In-depth managerial style when starting new save

In FM15 we've taken styles of management 2 steps further by allowing you to be on the training ground as one of the club's coaches and also increasing the options for you to define what type of manager you want to be. Once you've selected a club to manage, you'll be presented with the option to set yourself up to be a tracksuit manager, a tactical manager or a mix of the two. If you want to be on the training ground every day then you'll veer towards the tracksuit manager options, but if you want your players to respect you more off the training ground and get them learning quicker then tactical is the way to go. As part of this new feature, managers can now define what coaching badges they have and can update their skills during the game. Your level of coaching badge as well as your past playing experience, plays a bit part in deciding the starting level of your attributes. The better your coaching badge in playing experience, the higher your starting attributes level will be. You can then drag the style focus to better reflect managerial style that you associate with the most. You can fine-tune your selection by customizing attribute points. In FM15 you'll be truly able to manage your way.

3D Match Engine biggest face-lift since FM 2009

A major part of this is the addition of brand new cutting edge motion capture data, which helps breathe new life into match day experience and takes it to the next level of realism with over 2,000 new or replaced animations. Motion capture allows us to precisely record the exact movements and motions of players that we combined to the character models used in the match engine to create new animations. This has allowed us to introduce great-looking animations covering a wide range of common actions you see on a football pitch from shots to passes, to crosses and headers, to dives and saves, and much more besides. There's variety in abundance from different styles of movements depending on the height of the player and the weight of the player to different style of kicks. You'll see more technical kicks, and for the first time you'll see players using different parts of their foot to make passes or control the ball, such as the inside or outside of that foot or the laces of their boots. The benefits of motion capture are huge, and their introductions to FM2015 is just the start of an exciting future for the match engine in the years ahead.

We've also made improvements to the player models. You now see the players look less robot and more human, and move and react more naturally according to their size and shape. Goalkeeper animations too have been massively improved. We've added more variety with loads of new dives, parries and catching animations. As a result, goalkeepers look more natural than they ever have before. Other new goalkeeper animations focus on their interactions with the ball and their teammates. There are also more options for goalkeepers' distribution on the player instruction screen.

It's not just animations in player models that have been improved, we've combined all of these with a brand new lighting model. Player models now reflect and absorb light based on weather conditions. A bright sunny day may make them appear more reflective, whereas they'll look wetter when it's raining. This is even extended to a brand new in-game sun and sky as well as the level of dust particles present in the air, which are now tuned to reflect the different weather conditions. It's an immense level of detail for those who have the best graphics cards, but still works and looks great on lower-end cards too. The player themselves don't just have new models, they benefit from improved depth and shadowing around the edge of their faces, arms and legs. The match ball also undergone modifications into the way it's lit, so that it looks much better and clearer in all conditions. Ball physics have also been overhauled and improved, so the ball now reacts more realistically when kicked and moves more naturally through the air.

Team-talks during the match. We see managers often yelling at their players during the match and these team-talks replicate that. They'll work in a similar way as the pre-match, half-time and post-match team-talks, and allow you to talk to your whole team or target individual players. There is a wealth of major enhancements and subtle touches, that help make the stadiums look more vibrant and varied. For a start, there are many more designs of stadiums, including curved stadiums, and roofless stadiums in South America and parts of Europe. Corner pieces have been remodeled to include an array of props, including burger vans, bins, and different types of floodlights. Around the stadium, you will also notice tunnels, stewards, jumbo TV-screens, ambulances, and even personalized club-banners. And, as an extra level of detail, the stands in the stadium represent the color of the team. These additions bring a new life into our stadiums, and help to recreate the atmosphere of a big match. All of these enhancements to the match experience are part of our long-term plan of making our match engine the best simulation of football that can be. There are also more default tactics available to choose from than ever before, so you'll never be short of formations to try out throughout your managerial career. AI managers will utilize the tactics more effectively than before, incorporating player roles more intelligently into their tactics system. As always given the flexibility of the tactics creator and the number of formations and player roles that can be selected, there are thousands of tactical setups that can be employed.

4 brand new player roles

FM14 saw an increased emphasis on player roles and team tactics, this year we've taken this on and added four brand new player roles, so you can make sure your team is instructed to play exactly the way you want them to. To start with, central and defensive midfielders can now be given a roaming playmaker role, designed for a versatile midfielder who can split their duties between a deep-lying and advanced playmaker. Wingers can also now be instructed to play as a raumdeuter, a sort of wider poacher duty, suitable for players who you want to operate on the peripheral of build-up play. Players assigned this role will focus primarily on exploiting and moving into space when getting forward, so they can receive the ball for a close range shot or a quick cross from the by-line. Taking inspiration from and modelled on modern South American wing-backs, the third new role is the inverted wing back. Rather than staying glued to the touchline when moving forward, players playing this role will cut inside and make runs through the centre of the pitch either dragging defenders inside or opening up a shooting chance. Finally if you’re looking to get the best out of a creative wide player who likes to roam across the pitch. The new wide playmaker role may be ideal for you, this new role affords winger the freedom to drift inside, and find space to create from a more central position, giving them more options to try and find that crucial killer pass.

New Player Preferred Moves

There are also some new player preferred moves (PPM's) in the game. For example, for strikers who prefer to do the majority of their work in the penalty box, rather than dropping deep or roaming to the sides to pick up the ball, we now have the "penalty box" PPM. Other new PPM's are "refrains from shooting from distance" and for goalkeepers "likes to throw the ball long to start counter attacks". These new and other updated PPM's has been added to enhance the realism and variation between different players throughout the database.

More effective and realistic scouting

Our aim for scouting at FM2015 was to make it more effective and to reflect how real-life clubs operate their scouting networks. Think of the scouting network now as the one-stop place to find players. Scouting has been integrated more closely with the player-search function for example. Also, there is a new way to set up scouting assignments with an addition focus on what you're actually looking for rather than the standard location scouting. Very helpful for finding that long-term replacement of your star aging box-to-box midfielder, working in a similar way to the real world pros on recruiting system that we are involved with.

The players that appear on the player search screen are tied to your club's scouting knowledge, so you see players from the areas that you scouted which is represented to the plans real clubs work. We also linked the effects of your club's scouting knowledge to how much information you know about player. So now, when you view the profile of a player your scouts know about, but don't know that well, rather than seeing a set of blank attributes, you see some of that attributes displayed in a range. If you choose to scout that player, than the range will get narrower until the actual attribute is displayed. the star rating of those players will also be ranged. Additionally, well known players in areas you got some scouting knowledge will have more levels of information available, without having to be scouted.

There is also an increased level of interaction between you and your scouts. They get in touch more regularly to request to cancel their current assignment, if they feel there are more suitable players left to scout, as well as suggesting you more competitions to scout. And furthermore you can now ask scouts to roam around a particular nation instead of a specific region. Scouts will deliver better feedback when scouting competitions too, giving you a concise overview of the best performing players in that competition. When assigning a scout to carry out an assignment it's now easier to see your scouts attributes, making it easier to send the right person for the job.

You can also scout players for a specific time frame too. So if you have a player that you've earmarked as a replacement for a current squad member, you can scout him for up to three months to get a more complete picture. On top of this you'll also get match reports back regarding that player, as well as an updated report card every week. As part of the changes to scouting, the report card has undergone a revamp. You'll now get a much clearer visual representation of a player's quality, thanks to the new pros and cons section. It's not just the player's performance that a scout will take into account when drawing up the players, everything from their personality, current happiness, and even how well the player will fit into the dressing room will be weighed up before your scout makes this assessment. The scout will also provide an overall summary as it's whether worth pursuing your interest.

Quicker and smarter searching

Searching for players and searching in general in FM15 has been made quicker thanks to the introduction of the search bar at the top of the screen. This works in a similar way to an internet browser. Just type in what you want to look for, and a scrollable list of results matching your query will be displayed onto the search bar. Simply click on the result you were searching for and you'll be taken to that page. The scouting and player search elements have been brought closer together in FM15, and as a result we've added a scouted filter to the player search screen making it easier to call up the player's scout report to compare scouted players against each other. There are new categories to search for as well, such as being able to search for players who are unhappy in their current club and you can now search for home-grown players at any club too.

Enhanced player interaction

In a football world where player power rules, we've tried to replicate this in FM15 with lots of additions and changes with regards to player personalities and interaction. Players can now speak to their manager about a range of worries they might have. It could be concerns regarding the club such as financial trouble or more personal problems such as rumors of a new player coming to the club who plays in their position or when you sign a player and what it means to their future. If they're considering a move away from the club on a free transfer at the end of their contract, you can talk to the player and ask them to reconsider that decision and if they feel you can offer the terms they're looking for, maybe they'll change their mind. However, if you don't want to keep a player, you can ask them to talk to the media in order to force a move away. They may be reluctant to do this if they still wish to be part of your plans, but if they're desperate for a move as you are, don't get straight on the phone to the papers.

Another new addition to this area of the game is the ability to talk to a group of players about the same issue. For example, if several players are concerned about the club's financial position, you can appease them all together rather than having separate conversations on the same subject. Allies within the dressing room can now express their concerns for the way you've dealt with their teammates and there are entirely new group and happiness meetings to address the concerns of multiple players at once. Managers will have to be a lot more careful about how they deal with the man management side of FM to avoid a full-blown dressing room revolt and the board stepping in to intervene. Similarly, there's also the scope for players to turn against that unhappy teammate and support the manager instead.

Players will now approach the manager when learning a team's interest in signing them, to state they'd like permission to talk to the interested party should a bid come in for them rather than waiting to discuss an offer after an offer has been rejected. Players will also be a lot more specific in their reasons for asking to leave, giving the manager a much wider scope to try and talk the player around, incentivize them in staying or negotiate their exit conditions. You can even give a parting comment to players who are leaving the club against their will, you can send them their way with your best wishes and thank them for their time at the club or be a little more scathing in your evaluation of the time they spent with you. You need to be careful with making promises too, players may have career goals and squad objectives up the next few years and beyond. For example, if your young striker is looking to break into the first team squad during the current season and he doesn't achieve this, he could start consider a move away from the club. The expansion is not just about unhappy players though, a youth player will show short term happiness when they're exposed to the first team for example, when they actually play their first match or just by making the bench. And if you keep your promises you can keep a very happy and together squad.

More questions and wider variety of media interaction

The media within the game is deeper than ever with a wider variety of news stories, lines of questioning and a greater focus on building media rivalries between managers. We've split media types in tabloids and broadsheet journalists which provides a great mix of media interaction styles. Tabloid journalists will come to you looking for their next big headline to get fans talking whereas the broadsheets will talk to you more about things like your tactical approach to games and a more analytical side of football.

The flow of press conferences has been changed this year with questions being even more reactive to the answers of previous questions and more headline summary is being produced as a result. This also helps the media to build a perception of how you handle press conferences and how they can approach their questioning. For example, if you're responding angrily to comments about your future, the press will keep poking further to get a reaction rather than asking nice questions and giving the manager an easy time, depending on the journalist of course. On the opposite side to this, if a manager is being confident and open with the press, journalists will avoid asking questions that could stop this openness.

Brand new to this year is the introduction of tunnel and training ground interviews. Just like in reality, managers can now be stopped pre or post match for a few questions in the tunnel to get that thoughts on the match. Likewise you can be stopped outside the training ground for an on-the-spot question as well. Obviously you'll only see the tunnel and training ground interviews when they're likely to happen in real life. If the club's matches aren't gonna be broadcast on TV in some form, then you wouldn't expect these interviews to happen. This is the same regarding press conferences, which are amplified based on the importance of matches with more build up especially towards the end of the season should you be fighting for promotion or against relegation.

You also receive questions on other successes, such as winning the manager of the month award and whether you're worried with the curse that comes with the prize. Plus questions on your reserve or under-21 sides and what that means to the players involved. Throughout the season you'll receive more questions related to the time of year. There's more variety of questioning during pre-season, and if your previous match was notable there will be more of a focus on your previous opponents during pre-match questions and how you will play in response to that game. The press will also pick up on a manager's history against an opposing manager to create rivalries.

In the past, legends have been able to criticize you without you being able to respond, but this year with FM15 you get to do just that. You can politely shrug off their comments or take a risk and respond angrily, but there's always a risk the fans may not like that. There are new or extra questions around fielding a weakened team in a match, reasons for why you haven't offered players a new contract, and questions regarding your team underachieving. We've also expanded the variety of questions when you have games against rivals, around high-profile signings, getting a new contract, and lots more besides. Basically, lots of new questions and loads more variation.

More freedom for Classic mode

Updates to Classic Mode allow you more freedom when selecting nations, leagues and players in your game-world. Plus, you can now skip pre-season (in first season), take control of player training, make more board requests and there are new unlockables, such as "Dodgy lasagne", "Unsuspend player" and "Lifetime player".

Introduced more advanced set up options for database when starting a save. This will also allow players to customize the size of their database and even skip pre-season.

Added the option of managing training this year, but it's entirely up to whether and how much you want to be involved. If you prefer, you can also control training in an individual player basis.

In addition to these changes to training, tutoring will be making its FMC debut this year as well, allowing player personalities to be a little more flexible. Each season your assistant will assess the balance of your squad and pick any young players who can benefit from tutoring. Then they'll pair the player up with a more experienced member of the squad who can take them under their wing and guide their development.

All these changes to FMC have been designed to not take away the streamlined feel of classic mode while feeding managers with a little bit more information. This is something that's reflected in the upgraded news screen as well, which is tidier than ever and easier to navigate through the now separated match and other news sections.

Also introduced a number of board requests for FMC15. You'll now be able to ask the board to increase the percentage of transfer revenue you receive or relay the pitch, improve the club's youth setup levels and expand your scouting network.

3 new unlockables: "Lifetime player" is placing a player to a rolling contract, and the only way they can leave is if you specifically choose to sell them or retire. "Unsuspend player" removes any bans the player is currently set to serve and they can be immediately available for your next match. And finally we have the "Dodgy Lasagne" unlockable. This can be applied to any team, e.g. your next opponents or your fierce rivals, and it could come in handy on the day of that crucial match when you need anything to get the win.

Team meetings are brand new to FMC this year. If you're heading to a decisive match that leads to promotion or relegation, you'll now be prompted to hold a team meeting to running the troops and hopefully inspire them to get you over that final hurdle.

Updated regulations and insight for finances

FM15 is fully up to date with all the latest financial changes to football. With financial fair play being such a big talking point in football at present, we've made sure the game's database is fully updated with all the new regulations and calculations; top division wage restrictions have been added to prevent you from overspending on wages from year to year in line with the profitability and sustainability provisions made as part of FFP. You will now also be notified of your FFP obligations in your initial meeting with the board, making it much clearer exactly what is required of you from a financial perspective when you start your career.

However, we've also made it easier for you as in FM15 the next season's wage budget is announced to you in advance, so you can plan your dealing well ahead of the start of the new campaign as the board intelligence has been improved in many areas. When attempting to sign players for the new season, the proposed new wage budget will be used and the players' wages with expiring contracts you have no intention of renewing will not be counted as part of your wage total leaving spare wages with which you can sign new players.

At the end of the season, you'll also be issued with the commercial summary which will run through how much the club is taking in through kit and match sponsorships, the club shop merchandise, hiring up facilities and other sponsorship types. This allows you to monitor how your club is progressing or indeed regressing over a number of seasons. If your club gets promoted or relegated, you'll see how this affects your income through sponsorship and likewise if you bring in a world-class player you'll see your merchandise and club shop income increase as a result.

Improved manager history and profile

Improvements have been made to the manager history and manager profile areas of the game, allowing you to define your preferences and keep tabs on the successes of rival managers. The revamped cup history provides you with the ability to compare yourself against your predecessors at the club, so you can see exactly how big the shoes you're fitting are. It's also clearer to see how long managers last at the top on average, so you can see whether you're joining a club where the axes wielded on an annual basis or whether the chairman is likely to give you time to settle.

You can also track your own manager history closer with the manager timeline. In the short term, the timeline runs through events in recent seasons and notable results at a club, whether it's a humiliating defeat to a non-league side in the early stages in the cup or a big European comeback. In the long term, you can track all the finest moments on results from your career. The media will take these experiences and use this if similar events take place, like a rematch against your non-league foes.

Now when setting up your manager profile, you have many more options to define new managerial preferences. You can specify multiple languages that you speak, likewise you can select more than one favorite club. The way you play will be a talking point in the press and will be another deciding factor into whether you fit a team's ethos and should be considered for a management position at the club. With this in mind, you can now specify your favorite formations whether that'd be a classic 4-4-2 or something more a little bit more customized.

More in-depth and diversified job interviews

Job interviews make their debut in the FM series with FM14, allowing you to interview for a vacant managerial position if you're shortlisted for the role. This year we've introduced a whole host of new discussion topics that make these interviews much more varied. Amongst these topics such things as playing experience, employment history and how your career is panned out up until the time of the interview. For example, if you're currently managing in League Two and you're invited for an interview for a Championship job you may be asked why you're looking to leave your current position and if you're ready to take such a large step up the leagues.

The further into your career you play, the more detailed and differentiated these interviews will become as clubs and chairmen will be eager to discuss past experiences such as promotions, relegations, and your track record in the transfer market. All of these new variations to the interviews are intended to give each one a completely different feel and present you with more opportunities to impress the board was providing your own unique immersive management experience.

Mentality and new coaching styles for training

Moving on to this year's changes to training, considering the increased focus on player roles in the latest addition of the game, we decided it made sense for managers to be able to specify exactly which mentality play should focus in when training. For instance, you can now specify that a player should be training as an advanced playmaker with either a support or attack mentality, depending on which you prefer to play him as. Of course if you prefer to train them more generally in the role, you can still do this too. And it's not just the full-time professionals who will benefit from this year's changes to training, semi-pro and amateur training is now more realistic than ever, working with a more flexible schedule that takes into account on which day teams have matches and holding sessions in the build up accordingly.

As well as these prior focus changes to training, we've also taken into consideration the way different coaches like to work with their players. As such we've added three new coaching styles; technical, tactical and mental, which can now be set in the data for all staff members and will create more diversity between the different coaches and the game. Coaches who prefer the new technical style will be mainly concerned with the individual techniques of the game such as dribbling, finishing or ball control, while the tactical style is for coaches who excel in developing tactically aware players. And the mental style is for those who focus more on improving a player's mental attributes and qualities. Of course if you choose to be a tracksuit manager, you'll be on the training ground yourself as part of the coaching team.

Players growing mustaches for Movember charity

You would have seen over the years that many of the advertising hoardings in FM are given to some of our favorite charities. This year we're taking it one notch louder with a new charity partner: Movember. Rather than adding in an ad hoarding, you'll notice that some players will join in with Movember growing mustaches during November each season. We've even got multiple types of 'tashe and different stages of growth.

Twitch.tv integration

We'd also like to welcome another partner to the FM family: twitch.tv. For those who don't know, twitch is a video streaming platform for gamers connecting players around the world by allowing them to broadcast, watch and chat from everywhere they play. With FM15 you will, for the first time, be able to stream directly to twitch.tv from inside the game and we really look forward to watching your broadcast.

The Pep Guardiola Tactical System for FM15

$
0
0

Before reading on, please don’t expect this tactic or any Football Manager 2015 tactic to provide instant results. This is a system involving two formations that will take time to implement but has a proven track record of success in Football Manager 2015.

This tactically system has been designed around two formations that Bayern Munich use regularly. I will go into a detailed breakdown, covering both formations below.

A general note -- one important point to remember is the inability (in Football Manager 2015) to have separate tactics enabled for when your team are attacking and defending. This would increase the options I would have at my disposal and generally make the tactics much more fluid and even more importantly a more realistic representation of what Bayern do tactically. For example, Bayern switch between a 3 at the back system and a flat back four during games depending on a number of factors. This isn’t really possible in Football Manager 2015, unless you wanted to manually do it regularly throughout a game.

This means player instructions and team instructions are the only way to attempt to implement some of the more advanced philosophies that you’ll see at Bayern under Guardiola.

With that being said, the fundamentals of both tactics are discussed in-depth in a fantastic article that you can find here. I have tried to implement this philosophy, looking firstly at the base formation of 3-3-3-1, then moving on to the more traditional 4-2-3-1 formation. As mentioned, Football Manager 2015 has limitations but I think this system is a close representations within the framework of the game.

As I’m sure you’ll understand, creating tactics within Football Manager 2015 is an ever-changing process. This entire system has been tested over a prolonged period of time, tweaks and adjustments have been made along the way. I truly believe this as complete as the system can be at this point in time.

Feedback is always appreciated though so feel free to let me know your thoughts and ideas.

3-3-3-1 Tactic

When Bayern line up in a 3-3-3-1 formation it is often referred to as a “3x3 matrix”. With three clear levels, defence, midfield and attack. The lone striker playing ahead of an attacking midfield three. The tactic is very fluid so it was hard to pin down exactly how to recreate this in FM15 but I feel 3-3-3-1 not only provides an interesting challenge but it allowed me to create a quite unique tactical concept. As I have already mentioned, it would be fantastic to implement a tactic that allows a transition between a defensive three and a standard back four. That isn’t possible so this system provides two separate concepts that can be used when required. I offer advice on how often each tactic should be used but you can obviously switch during a game as well.

It would have been easy to use wingbacks (something Bayern deploys regularly during games) as the foundation of this system but as I've said, this provided a much more challenging and interesting creative process and meant the success that followed was even more rewarding. Additionally, we can cover wingbacks and/or fullbacks with the other formation within this system. It means if you are downloading this tactic, you have the best of both worlds.

A huge plus point of this tactic is the lack of prototypical central midfielders. That might seem like an odd thing to say but I've witnessed lots of issues with MC's either leaving huge gaps in central areas or (when mentality is set to defend) dropping far too deep and being a DMC and at times sitting on top of the centre back. It was entirely a coincidence that this formation doesn't use any MC's but it has very beneficial and one of the main reasons this tactic is so successful. The absence of central midfielders actually took away some of the mystery in the new match engine, you’ll notice later that the second formation also utilizes a similar midfield setup (a lack of true central midfielders).

Please note – that shouldn’t put you off using central midfielders and as further patches are released the game will evolve further.

Covering and tracking in Football Manager 2015 is much improved, it really helps to mask over an obvious flaws in this tactic. Namely the gaps it leaves in wide areas and the general weakness it has to being attacked down the flanks. At least I’m sure that is how the formation would be perceived. What I mean by that comment is that on paper the formation looks weak in wide areas when in reality it’s absolutely fine due to the enhanced covering and tracking.

The fact players are much more inclined to press wide attackers when instructed to do so is the single most important factor when analysing the defensive elements of this formation.

The 3-3-3-1 in-depth:

From experience of using this system -- this is the tactic used most often out of the two available in this system, especially in home games and generally games against lesser opponents. Usually Bayern will be favourites for most games, particularly at home. So this formation should be your first choice in the majority of games. It is also a more specialist formation so I found a tendency to stick with it as the players became more familiar.

Around 60% of the time I would start games with the 3-3-3-1 formation. It's a very progressive and "free flowing" tactic that allows for fantastic ball retention and produces great attacking football that allows you to dominate weaker opposition. The players always have options when on the ball and get wide much more often that you'd assume. I’ll try to demonstrate that in more detail below.

Player Roles / Instructions

Goalkeeper: Sweeper Keeper / Attack
Distribute to flanks.
Left Central Defender: Ball Playing Defender / Defend
Pass it shorter. Close down much more.
Right Central Defender: Ball Playing Defender / Defend
Pass it shorter. Close down much more.
Central Defender: Stopper / Defend
Hold position. Fewer risky passes. Close down much less.
Left Defensive Midfielder: Defensive Midfielder / Support
Get further forward. Pass it shorter. Run wide with ball.
Right Defensive Midfielder: Defensive Midfielder / Support
Get further forward. Pass it shorter. Run wide with ball.
Central Defensive Midfielder: Roaming Playmaker / Support
More risky passes.
Left Attacking Midfielder: Attacking Midfielder / Support
Shoot less often. Roam from position. Cross more often. Move into channels.
Right Attacking Midfielder: Shadow striker / Attack
Roam from position. Run wide with ball. Close down much more.
Central Attacking Midfielder: Trequartista / Attack
Dribble more. More direct passes.
Lone Striker: Complete Forward / Support
Hold position. Close down much more.

Team Mentality: Attacking
Team Shape: Flexible
Team Instructions:
Retain possession. Shorter passing. Exploit the flanks. Roam from positions.
Opponent Instructions:
Always close down -- DR/DL, WBR/WBL, MR/ML, AMR/AML, SR/SL

New role breakdown: The Roaming Playmaker

“The Roaming Playmaker is the heartbeat of his team, driving forward with the ball to spearhead attacks as well as tracking back to cover defensively. Always offering a passing option to teammates, the Roaming Playmaker must have the physical attributes to maintain a high intensity as well as the technical attributes to stamp his authority on the game.
He will look to pick the ball up in deep positions and work the ball forward with urgency, all the while keeping up with play. The Roaming Playmaker will often camp on the edge of the penalty area looking for room to shoot or try that killer ball which creates a goalscoring opportunity.”

My understanding of the role is this – it’s a more creative box to box midfielder who has the freedom to drift all over the field when his team are in possession. When utilised in a defensive midfield role rather than central midfield it becomes slightly less box to box and essentially a more dynamic deep-lying midfielder. You can make comparisons to the regista role, especially if you are using someone like Xabi Alonso or Xavi as they lack the athleticism of Yaya Toure or Cesc Fabregas for example. Being set as a roaming playmaker still allows slower, less athletic players to have a greater influence on the game and almost combine the roles of deep-lying playmaker and advanced playmaker (when played as a dmc rather than mc).

In this article I have already talked about my personal experiences with central midfielders, and my general disappointment with their performances. The one exception- Yaya Toure, when set as a roaming playmaker. I’m not 100% sure if this is simply because he’s so good in Football Manager 2015 but generally speaking central midfielders aren’t great right now and his performances during some simulations came as a bit of a shock due to issues I’ve seen within the game. If you disagree or can provide examples of excellent performance then I’d love to hear about it.

Current examples: Yaya Toure, Cesc Fabregas, Xavi, Pirlo

I can’t stress enough how much this role can change depending on who you play. Pirlo or Xavi in the roaming playmaker role is an entirely different prospect to an top class athlete.

Anyway, let’s look at some examples from the The Pep Guardiola Tactical System.

In the first image you can see Xabi Alonso (roaming playmaker) very high up the pitch in an almost perfect central role. He has an easy pass to spread the ball to the left wing but two central options to create instant goalscoring opportunities.

Some of the recommended attributes for a roaming playmaker are finishing and long shots. From my experience, neither are used often or particularly needed. It’s almost as though the game is implying the role should be used to finish off moves. From what I’ve seen over a period of time that isn’t the case. The roaming playmaker creates chances from central and wide locations. I can’t think of a single example where he is on the end of a great passing move. He’s usually starting that move which is shown above.

In the second image you’ll notice Alonso is a little deeper but still in a very central position. He has four options, two of which are very low risk. The other two options are riskier passes but will create opportunities for the trequartista and complete forward respectively. In this type of position it’s also common place to see the player spin on the ball and wait for additional openings. In the above example he has numerous passes available, there is no need to let the play develop further. He has two direct runners in front, to his left he can play the ball to provide width and the other safe option is to the right where Lahm is looking to burst forward with the option to drift wider.

Tactic in action

A/ Without the ball -- Great example of tactical discipline and shape. Shows two lines of three, the attacking midfield three and the defensive midfield three. Excellent pressing from all four attackers including the central striker. The left attacking midfielder is dropping into coverage to pick up the free opposition player breaking into the gap between the two midfield groups.

B/ Lahm receives the ball in a relatively central area -- His initial movement is to drift into a wider area. He has a clear direct ball to Muller who is also beginning to drift wide. This movement from both players will essentially develop into a traditional AMR/WBR combination. It is also worth noting the overload of players in central midfield. Three midfielders are only covered by one opposition player. This is the perfect example to show how such high ball retention is possible. It’s rare you’ll see a player forced into a high variance pass.

C/ The final third -- Alonso (set as a roaming playmaker) is very high up the pitch but has six attackers ahead of him He is at the base of the attacking shape with only the three central defenders and goalkeeper behind him. This allows for lots of passing options and time on the ball. The opposition typically reacts in one of two ways - either by sitting off the attackers and being patient or pressing hard and being picked apart by Alonso or Gotze. It's also worth highlighting, Lahm is about to receive the ball and (again) break wide into space, which provides width on the right flank. The same can be said for Bernat, when Alonso picks the ball up on the right side of the central area.

4-2-3-1 Tactic

The first thing you will notice is that this formation is much more traditional. My expectation is that many of you will have a preference for this tactic as it's the safer choice and doesn't look particularly unusual or alarming in any way. It is how many of you would expect modern football teams to line-up. I'd encourage everyone to use both formations as detailed in this article. Of course it's entirely up to the end user.

Utilising a flat back four means that there is less room for the opposition to attack down the flanks, this isn't actually a weakness of the 3-3-3-1 due to opposition instructions but with the 4-2-3-1 formation, the fullbacks are already in a starting position to provide defensive stability without having to move across into a covering position when Bayern lose the ball.

I'd personally class the flat back four as a negative - because it means ball retention in the middle of the field is harder to come by, simply due to the players have fewer options and the AI managed teams seem to cope better with a traditional setup. The flip-side of this is, in theory, the fullbacks should provide an outlet for the defensive midfielders and central attackers. The general thought process would be that if you spread out wide then you can pass the ball easier as it reduces congestion in central areas. I haven’t found this to be the case in Football Manager 2015. It’s marginal but my preference is for three defenders rather than a standard back four. Certainly within a system designed for short passing and ball retention

It really is a matter of taste. Do you prefer your players to start in wider roles and give up central dominance or do you enjoy having an overload in central areas and are willing to accept players will only cover wide areas when needed? Of course you can find a compromise that fulfils both needs but I’m speaking specifically about the two formations within this system.

The 4-2-3-1 in-depth:

This formation is used around 40% of the time, in games that you expect to be closer, tough away games and generally games against good opponents that you don't anticipate a victory to come quite as easily as you would with the 3-3-3-1. The build-up is even more patient and there is a reliance on structure rather than fluid interchanging play.

Realistically though, both tactics can work in both situations. This system and percentage breakdown of 60/40 is a guide as to how you can use the system. It’s a starting point. I'm sure you can experiment and figure out how and when you want to use each formation. It would be fantastic to learn how you all use this system, feel free to talk to me about it.

New role breakdown: The Raumdeuter

“The Raumdeuter literally translated from German means "space investigator". His main role is to find pockets of space in which to operate. Essentially a wide poacher, the Raumdeuter takes up seemingly harmless positions out wide, waiting for the opportune moment to burst through the defensive line for that telling shot or cross.
He is difficult for defenders to pick up as he will often drift in from his assigned position looking for any opportunity to exploit. This can result in quiet periods during which the Raumdeuter may neglect his defensive duties, therefore adequate cover and a strong team shape are key in order to fully utilise his attacking prowess in the final third.”

Football Manager 2015 has just been released and it’s already a cliché to use Thomas Muller as the perfect example to point to when discussing this role. But to be honest, he’s the definitive example in modern football. Sure you could get creative with player instructions and get great performances out of other players but he’s tailor made for this role.

The role is simple yet brilliantly executed within the match engine. It’s by far my favourite role - it requires very little effort to get the game to recreate exactly what you have envisioned. The movement you see off the ball and the willingness to run in behind the opposition defence is joyful at times. You’ll regularly see intelligent movement and then perfectly timed acceleration to capitalise on defensive frailty. Almost lulling the opposition into a false sense of security, before coming alive and finishing off a move like a seasoned finisher.

If you really want another current example, Andre Schurrle fills the role well. I’ve experimented with him in that role at Chelsea. He’s good but he’s not Muller. I’m eager to hear from you all about player performances in this role. Have you found a player to be as effective as Muller? Let me know.

Let’s move on to some examples within The Pep Guardiola Tactical System.

Both of the above examples are far more basic than the previous player role breakdown. This is because the role is very simplistic by nature. It’s described as a “wide poacher” so the best examples are when the raumdeuter drifts into a more central role or dibbles with the ball from a wide position into a central one.

In the first image you can see Muller is in a AMR type position, but running diagonally towards the box. His run, if allowed to develop, would see him arrive on the penalty spot. As soon Gotze receives the ball, Muller is on the move, staying onside but as the furthest forward Bayern player.

Looking at the second image, you’ll see it is a very simple sideways pass that creates a one on one situation for Muller. The move developed from the left wing – he has drifted across from his starting position to (again) attack the penalty spot. It’s a classic raumdeuter run. The diagonal movement from the right channel means the fullback doesn’t tend to track him and the centre back is only aware of the run once he’s in behind the defence and bearing down on goal.

Tactic in action

A/ Excellent example of the flat back four deployed in this formation - Great discipline when the opposition breaks on the Bayern defence. Note that the AML is in a great position to cover for the left back due to being set to support. Alonso has dropped deep just ahead of the centre backs but Lahm is rushing out to press the man in possession. This structure pays dividends defensively but also when the ball is won back, there are always three players ready to receive the ball in attacking positions.

B/ This highlights the width that the right full back offers - Boateng is in an advanced position, almost like a right winger when the team are in possession. He provides a smart ball inside to Muller but also has the option to attack the by-line. Due to Muller being set as a raumdeuter this frees up room for the fullback to push forward into wide areas if in possession. You will also notice Gotze is almost alongside Lewandowski in the box, awaiting a potential cross from Boateng or a cut back from Muller. This changes when the ball is on the left side of the field.

C/ Let’s take a look at the opposite flank - Alaba high up the pitch in possession. On the right hand side Boateng is much deeper and covering. Alaba has the option to attack the full back and provide a cross. Muller (circled) has drifted into a central position and is fulfilling his role as a raumdeuter perfectly. Any time a cross is likely from the left, both Muller and Lewandowski act almost like a front two, with Gotze being slightly withdrawn. When the ball comes in from the right, Gotze is further forward with Muller in an inside right type position. You can’t see it on the screen shot but Gotze is actually the high point of a diamond midfield, something that is a by-product of Muller coming inside and the fullbacks pushing forward. Lahm will drift to the right and Alonso will stay deep. This provides great flexibility and variety for the defence to deal with. The interchanging of positions and areas that players work in really causes lots of problems.

General notes and conclusion

Firstly, you'll notice that the same group of players are used as examples in both formations. I've also had great success using players such as Robben, Ribery, Thiago, Schweinsteiger and Martinez. All of those players fit into the system well -- specifically Martinez replacing Alonso or Thiago replacing Gotze. When adding in Robben or Ribery you need to consider their strengths and weaknesses. Both are very different to Alaba or Muller so you would need to think about tweaking roles and player instructions if playing either play at AMC or AML/R in either the 3-3-3-1 or 4-2-3-1.

When you start to play Football Manager 2015 you might notice that defenders have a tendency to drop deep. I have found it impossible to completely eradicate this. Therefore deploying an offside trap is something I would advise again. Both formations in this system are designed with that in mind. It is something to be watchful of if you are considering tweaking anything in the defensive areas.

Earlier I talked about tracking runners and plugging gaps. Football Manager 2015 does a great job at this. It means starting positions are much less rigid than in previous versions of the game. For example the 3-3-3-1 formation is very narrow on paper and, of course, fundamentally it is a narrow formation. But with the right instructions you can minimise the threat from wide positions. It's truly something you need to see in action to appreciate. I have tried to demonstrate this throughout the article but it will be beneficial to hear about the experience of others when using a variety of narrow formations.

Another point I’d like to go back over is how ineffective and unpredictable central midfielders can be. If you want to adapt either formation and add a central midfielder then feel free. From numerous tests and simulations I have found it problematic and eventually decided to avoid it all together. The best case scenario I’ve found is a central midfielder not hurting the team with poor positioning. When watching full 90 minute games it’s very hard to live with some of the obvious deficiencies in the position. I’m sure this will evolve through software patches in the next few months but at present it’s a position to approach with caution.

I started this article with a warning, making it clear that you aren't going to find a tactic that offers instant success. I would like to repeat that sentiment but also add that you should expect to see players becoming more accustomed to new roles after around 2 or 3 months. If you are using this system with any team that isn't Bayern then you need to remember that the chances of the majority of the squad being able to slot straight in to either formation is quite slim. I'd suggest either altering the formations and/or roles or looking to recruit players who are best suited for the system. If you want any advice on squad additions then you can contact me on Twitter or on YouTube.

With that in mind, sometimes you have to work with what you've got. I'd suggest training all players in the roles they'll be playing. Paying particular attention to defend/support/attack. This is a new option in Football Manager 2015, take advantage of it.

As you’ve discovered, I have implemented two of the new Football Manager 2015 player roles into this system -- the Roaming Playmaker and the Raumdeuter. I would be really interested to hear how other people are utilising the roles.

As I'm sure you'll appreciate, a lot of work went into this article. The article comes in at over 4,000 words and countless hours of research. All with the aim to provide a fantastic starting point for people to learn about the new tactical options in Football Manager 2015. If you have any feedback then I'd appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment or contact me directly.

Welcome to the best list of wonderkids in Football Manager 2015 by FMScout.com.

Like every year since 2010, I dedicate countless hours into producing this list to make sure this is really the greatest wonderkids list around the web.

I honestly believe it is the most in-depth and well-presented list of the best young players in FM 2015. I'll be updating this page often to reflect all official data updates.

This article is the successor of our world-renowned lists of FM 2014 wonderkids, FM 2013 wonderkids & FM 2012 wonderkids.

This is the first edition, including over 450 players!
Recommendation ratings should make it easier to find the best players.

Please understand that this list has been created by using the Beta version of the game which was released yesterday evening (23 October). This version doesn't come with a pre-game editor, therefore my list surely must be missing players I couldn't spot so far. You are welcome to post your suggestions in the comments below and I will reading them all to keep this article up to date on a daily basis until November 7th when pre-game editor should be made available.

Released: 24 October 2014
Next major update: 7-8 November 2014

What are wonderkids?

Remember that by wonderkids, we are referring to players with amazing potential ability and great or decent current ability up to the age of 20.

We cannot reveal CA/PA because it would be against the rules of SI. Pre-game editor is currently unavailable anyway, therefore this data is still unknown.

This list features the best young players in the game, some of them will already be wonderkids, other should be pretty close and there will also be the ones that should have the potential but it's not certain they will make it before they turn 21!

What does the rating mean?

It's a personal recommendation system for your convenience. I'm using a 1-100 scale and I'll explain now how I've chosen these ratings based on English divisions. The ratings of this first edition were decided on a hurry, so you should expect them to be somewhat unfair at this point.
81+ all-time elite
78-80 top player for 1st division teams
75-77 solid backup for 1st division teams
72-74 top player for 2nd division teams
71- top player for 3rd division teams and below

Frequently Asked Questions

I can't find all players of this list on my save game. Why is that?
I loaded all players (330k+) in the game to produce my lists of players. Your save game probably has less players loaded, which explains why you can't find all of them.

Can you please share a shortlist for this list to import in-game?
Sorry I can't do that. I used to share shortlists but people would steal them and post on other sites without providing credit and passing as their own, which is very annoying. This also explains why you won't be able to copy/paste names off this list.

Please post your suggestions for the ones we might have missed or the ones that shouldn't be here. Any questions regarding those players feel free to ask.

Enjoy!

Season 2014-2015

DF11 is a portrait style facepack that initiated production since October 2010.
The DF11 crew do release regular updates to keep their faces up to date as much as possible.
There is a large amount of 70.000 DF11 faces available at the moment.

DF11 faces are 260 x 310 pixels big, which is (a lot) larger than default size (180 x 180).
There will be special DF11 panels available shortly after the release of the new Football Manager game.
These panels will show the DF11 faces in their original big size.

Without these panels the faces will be shown as usual in game.

This is a stand-alone pack intended for use with Football Manager 2015.
DF11 faces will also work with any other version of Football Manager!

Watch manual / or / Download manual

1 - This is a torrent (magnet link) download!
You need a torrent client on board of your pc to download this DF11 Megapack.

We recommend Utorrent and Bittorrent as torrent client.
There are several more torrent clients (Vuze, Deluge etc), and all will work fine when installed properly.

2 - You need 6GB free diskspace on board of your computer.
It seems to be a lot, but it doesn't affect the gamespeed of Football manager!
None of any graphical additions will affect the gamespeed of FM.
Only the start-up time will be affected by a couple of seconds. (confirmed by SI)

3 - Your (torrent) download will start after 'clicking' the red 'DOWNLOAD NOW' button on top.

4 - Add the downloaded 'DF11 Megapack folder' to:
documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2015\Graphics

Note: You have to make the 'Graphics' folder by yourself!

Further detailed instructions also available in the 'Install Manual'.

Most frequently asked questions:

How to install the DF11 Megapack & updates?
- Please download the 'instructions manual'.
When installed correctly, you will have one (1) DF11 Megapack folder that includes
all 70.000 faces plus one (1) config file.

I don't have a 'Graphics' folder in my Football Manager game.
- That's correctly!
After installing Football Manager you will have to add the 'Graphics' folder yourself. (show spoiler)

I don't see any DF11 faces after installing the DF11 Megapack.
- Be sure you've set the ingame settings correctly. (show spoiler)

I still don't see any DF11 faces in game.
- Maybe the config file is defective and not working correctly.
Make a new config file to replace the defective one.

There is a short 'config file' tutorial available in the spoiler below.

Some particular face(s) don't show up in game while they are included to the DF11 Megapack.
- It simply happends sometimes.
Most of the times we can fix this issue by replacing the defective face with a new one.

Huge Database option for FM15

$
0
0
When creating a new save-game you can choose between small, medium and large database size. What if you were given the choice of even more data? The huge database option adds nearly 4,000 players to the extensive database which gives you more choices. Be careful though, a larger database may slow down your game.

This is mainly an option for lazy people who don't want to bother with custom database settings for their game. Huge database will load more players compared to the other database size options.

How To Install

Step 1

Unzip the downloaded file BDD-Immense.zip. If you need decompression software for extracting the file, we recommend using 7-zip for Windows or The Unarchiver for Mac

Step 2

• Copy or Move the folder "panels" at the following location:
Documents / Sports Interactive / Football Manager 2015

Step 3

• In-game go to Preferences > Interface
• In the Appearance box, click "Clear Cache" and check "Reload skin when confirming changes in Preferences"
• Click "Confirm" the bottom right side of the screen

How To Use

• From the main menu, start a new career
• After the first page (Choose nation (s)), you arrive in the Overview of new part
• In the lower part of screen, open the dropdown menu "Database Size" to the right
• The choice "Huge" should appear after Small, Medium and Large
• You can also use the "Huge" option in the custom database settings menu

Football Manager 2015 Best Coaches

$
0
0

Welcome to the ultimate list of the best coaches in Football Manager 2015 by FMScout.com. Like all my other lists, I have dedicated many hours composing this to make sure it is really the greatest list of coaches in FM15 around the web.

It took me days to compose this list of coaches for you and made sure it's as accurate as possible. If you find any typos or inconsistencies, please comment to let me know.

This is the first edition, including roughly 700 coaches! Updates will be applied from to time to ensure I'm not missing any coaches worthy of appearing here.

Released: 26 October 2014

What are the criteria for this list?
I decided to include real coaches (no regens) with current star rating of at least 4 stars (out of 5) for any given coaching category except fitness coaches and goalkeeping coaches where my minimum rating is 4.5 stars because there are too many of those in the game.
Since the star rating is current, it's only natural some of them will improve their ratings as years go by in-game and new ones will emerge (either regen, former players who become staff or coaches with star rating lower than 4 stars who improve).

The list includes staff who could have interest in a coach position (general, fitness or goalkeeping).

Click on the table headers (name, age, etc) for easy sorting.
You can also sort by multiple columns if you press and hold Shift while clicking the headers.

We are delighted to announce that we will be eventually releasing Genie Scout 15! Eugene is already working on the new version for Football Manager 2015.

FM Genie Scout is the world's favorite scout utility for Football Manager.

We are honored to be exclusively releasing this awesome tool since 2009. We try our best to deliver Genie Scout to the world every year because your support to this project is outstanding.

FM Genie Scout 15 Changes

The biggest change in Genie Scout 15 is the update of roles and duties (91 available in total), as well as the update of the rating system according to the important attributes for each role which have changed for FM15.

Here are a couple of screenshots:

How to unlock Germany national team on FM15

$

As with previous installments of Football Manager, FM15 has certain files that prevent you from managing certain national teams and from current real players showing up in their rosters due to licensing issues.

The national teams with the problem:
  • Germany
  • China
  • South Korea
  • Japan

How to fix

Fixing this is relatively simple. Go to:

Windows
Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Football Manager 2015 \ data \ db \ 1500 \ lnc \ all

Mac
[username] > library > Application support > Steam > SteamApps > common > Football Manager 2015 > data > db > 1500 > lnc > all

Here you will find 7 files:
  • fake.lnc
  • greek name change.lnc
  • italian awards.lnc
  • korean name change.lnc
  • lic_dan_swe_fra.lnc
  • nleague.lnc
  • turkish name change.lnc
Simply delete the 2 files in bold (fake.lnc and nleague.lnc) and create a new savegame or wait until the next time international squads are announced on your current savegame.

What exactly is fixed by removing these files?

Here is the complete list of what is unlocked by deleting them:
  • National teams of Germany, China, South Korea and Japan become playable.
  • Enable player pics for national teams of The Netherlands and France.
  • Fix real name of Oliver Kahn (he's with nickname Jens Mustermann).
  • Fix names for various Danish, Swedish and French competitions.
  • Restore real players for the team Albirex Niigata (Singapore).
  • Fix colors and names for various clubs, stadiums, cities in Asian countries.

Enjoy :)
