VfB Stuttgart Guide for FM16

Brief History

VfB Stuttgart are a big and very popular club in the German Bundesliga with a rich history and tradition. Their last success came in 2007, when they last won the Bundesliga title. Since then, VfB Stuttgart have been on a steady decline. Fighting against relegation, they finished the 2014/15 season in 14th place. For the new season, they hired Andreas Zorniger (who since has been sacked). I had great success with this club in FM15 and they are now my new save FM16 save in my YouTube “Let’s Play” series.

Name: VfB Stuttgart
Stadium: Mercedes-Benz Arena
Capacity: 60,449
Pitch Condition: Very Good
Training Facilities: Superb
Youth Facilities: Superb
Junior Coaching: Good
Youth Recruitment: Extensive

Finances and Expectations

VfB Stuttgart are considered a rich club with limited debt. For the start of the new season the transfer budget is set at €3.5 M and the annual wage budget is set at €4.76 M.

Board Expectations - League: Mid-table
Board Expectations - Cup: 3rd Round
Media Prediction: 8th

Strongest Tactics

There are a number of possible tactics to choose from since so many players are flexible as to the positions they can play. Following are the three that I implemented in my current save.

4-4-1-1 (Control, Fluid)

This tactic is predicated on a high defensive line, utilizing an offside trap (due to the former), high rate of pressing/closing down and a fast transition from defense to attack. Basically, it’s a more defensively stable version of Jürgen Klopp’s “Gegenpressing” system he perfected at Dortmund. This works well with most Stuttgart players since they’re very pacey on the wings with high levels of determination and work rate for all central midfielders, who are key in pressing immediately, regaining possession and recycling it into attacking moves.

Gentner as a DLP (with more closing down instruction) and Gruezo as BWM are great in these positions. The speed and goal threat of Kostic and Harnik on the wings, along with the attacking threats of Maxim as CAM (Advanced Playmaker (A)) and Werner the fast Advanced Forward creates plenty of chances and goals. Defensive stability (we were the second best defense behind Bayern) was created by the fullbacks (support) and my center back pairing of Timo Baumgartl (CD(D)) and the purchased BPD(D) Jeffrey Bruma (more on that later).

4-2-2-1-1-DM (Counter, Fluid)

This is a defensive interpretation of the aforementioned control tactic that I used against stronger sides (Bayern, Dortmund, Leverkusen, Wolfsburg) to a decent degree of success. Especially early on in the season this is a valuable tactic.

It’s very similar to our other tactic, but the central midfielders drop into the DM positions (with the same roles) and the Fullbacks are put on a defensive duty. Also, instead of shorter passing, we go direct and clear the ball to the flanks to generate quick counter attacks. I do have them play with more discipline so that they quickly return to their defensive positions when they would lose possession.

4-2-3-1 (Control, Fluid)

This is just a slightly more attack minded version of our first formation, since the wingers are placed in the AMR/L positions. Give this tactic some time and it should become your default tactic since the team is perfectly suited for this formation.

Starting XI Positional Analysis

Goalkeepers
You’ve got 2 rather equal keepers to start with in Przemyslaw Tyton and Mitchell Langerak (starts the game injured for a few months). The key difference between the two is that Langerak is better at a Sweeper Keeper role. I honestly rotate between the two, but it should be a role that you should consider upgrading in the second season.

Centre Backs
Youngster Timo Baumgartl has the potential to become a top Bundesliga CD, but needs a better partner than either newcomer Toni Sunjic or Georg Niedermeier. The latter is the best of the two to pair up as a partner for Baumgartl, because even though he lack acceleration, he is very positionally sound with a lot of interceptions.

Left Backs
Emiliano Insua is a very strong defensively minded Fullback who also gets great stats in passing % and interceptions. Philip Heise is a decent back up, but is more attacking minded.

Right Backs
Basically, Florian Klein is the better FB going forward and Daniel Schwaab is much better defensively. So I’d recommend rotating between them, depending on the opposition. Given their ages (29 & 27 respectively) and limited potential this would be an area to upgrade.

Central Midfielders
Stuttgart has plenty to choose from here. Creatively, veteran Christian Gentner should be your go-to DLP, with Lukas Rupp as a quality backup. The defensive partner should be the young Carlos Gruezo. He can (and should) develop into a top CM/BWM. Serey Dié is a decent backup, but given his age (30) and lack of discipline, I started playing young Mart Ristl instead with great results.

Left Wingers
Filip Kostic is an absolute star as a left-winger. He’s got amazing speed and a great eye for goal. The problem here could be holding him past your first season to one of the big clubs in Europe. As a backup, young Adrian Grbic (also a good striker) is a must to develop…great potential and performance.

Right Wingers
Martin Harnik should start here. He’s pacey with a great eye for scoring, but can be limited by poor passing and crossing skills. Jan Kliment should be developed as his backup and eventual replacement.

Central Attacking Midfielders
Here too, Stuttgart has some great options. On paper, Daniel Didavi is your most talented option, but since he wants to leave at the end of the season (on a free transfer), is very injury prone and rather inconsistent, I’d recommend starting Alexandru Maxim in this role. His backup that must be developed (since he could be HUGE) is Arianit Ferati, who is also a decent winger.

Strikers
Stuttgart have two quality strikers in Daniel Ginczek and Timo Werner. Both are adept at playing the Advanced Forward role, but Werner isn’t a good header of the ball. That being said though, Werner had great performances for me and quickly beat out Ginczek for the starting role. But much like with Kostic, Werner could leave the club after latest season 2 for BIG money.

Young Players
VfB Stuttgart are known to produce a plethora of highly talented young players. FM16 reflects this and you can find plenty of jewels in the 2nd team (Stuttgart II) and the U19 squad that if properly developed will become stars for the club.

Weaknesses and Potential Strengthening

The biggest weaknesses are clearly in defense.
I would highly recommend signing a new CD as your #1 priority off the bat.
Beyond that you should look at a better left back to backup Insua and upgrade the right back position as well. Depending on how they perform, getting a new keeper for season 2 should also be considered.

Summary

With the right tactics and strengthening the centre back position, you can quickly climb the league table and get some great results (Despite a slow start, I went 14 matches unbeaten for the first half of season 1 and am currently sitting in 3rd and have reached the cup quarterfinals). Amazing young talent and a willingness to invest in the future make VfB Stuttgart a great option for a Bundesliga save.

OLT Newgen Hair Pack for FM16

$

0
This is the original OLT Expanded Hair Pack v4.0 for Football Manager 2014, updated for FM 2016.

All ethnic groups are represented in all colors and lengths. Almost 2000 new hair styles are included.

Known issues

  • Regens sometimes change hairs upon installation of new updates, but as long as the hair folders remain the same, so will the hairs.
  • Some players are not assigned a hair and appear bald.
  • A very few number of hairs won't fit 100% because in FM16, the dimensions of regens faces sometimes vary a bit.

How to install OLT's Hair Pack in FM 2016

  1. Please be aware that this graphical mod DOES NOT go into the "Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2016" folder as normal graphics do (kits, logos, faces and so on). It will not work/have any affect if extracted here.

Instead extract the whole folder "olt hairpack no shirts 2016" into the following directory on your computer:

    "[YOUR FM GAME FOLDER]\data\facegen\hair"

Default place to look for this folder is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2016"

For Mac users, the FM GAME FOLDER should be here:
    [username] > library > Application support > Steam > steamapps > common > football manager 2016

  2. The above mentioned folder (hair) should now contain minimum 6 folders. The "afro", "asian", "euro", "hispanic" and "mixed_race" standard folders by SI, alongside with your new "olt hairpack no shirts 2016" and eventually other custom graphics you might have installed.

  3. Open up FM16, go into preferences > interface and click the "Clear Cache" button.
When done, close the game. Run again, and everything should be up and running.

Files are save-game compatible, meaning you don't have to start a new game for them to make effect.

Tottenham Guide for FM16

$
0
0

Brief History

Tottenham Hotspur are a club from northeast London, founded in 1882. Spurs haven’t got a lot of silverware to brag about, with only 2 Premier League titles, one of them achieved in the early 1960s, where Tottenham, led by manager (and club legend) Sir Bill Nicholson, had their most successful of times, winning the FA Cup, 2 Community Shields, and the European Cup Winner’s Cup. Spurs felt hard times following their success, and even getting relegated from the top flight mid-80s.

It’s fair to say that now, Spurs have established themselves as a great Premier League side, despite their most recent accomplishment only being a League Cup in 2008.

Finances and Board Expectations

It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have
set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.
– Bill Nicholson, Tottenham legend.

Tottenham are run by investment group ENIC, with Mr. Daniel Levy running the club. He’s known for some very frugal deals, despite the club having some very healthy and rich finances, overshadowed by debts that came with the new stadium, coming in 2018.

Still, the starting budget for Spurs is a very lovely 17M£, with just under 200k for wages freed up, in which the board will expect you to get qualification for Europa League (Top 6), which may prove to be the best option (Media Prediction: 6th). If you’re interested, you may increase this budget, by promising to the board that you’ll get Top 4 (19M£), or (if you’re brave enough) even win the EPL (21M£).

Strongest Tactics

4-2-3-1

The formation you’ll most likely be seeing yourself playing with. Probably the most used formation in football these days, and for a good reason. The players you have at your disposal will most certainly fit in this tactic. I’ll leave it up to you whether you’d like to set up your midfield.

Normally, I like to set up the 4-2-3-1 for games I feel like I see myself winning, like so:
AP (S)
DLP(S) ----- BWM (D)

On the matter of Team Instructions, I like to play with overlapping full-backs, and a high pressuring defence, whilst working the ball to the box.

4-3-3

I’d advise to play a 4-3-3 in those tricky away games with a more direct counter-attacking philosophy whilst remaining, as follows:
AP (S) ----- BBM(S)
DM (D)

I’d leave the team instructions similar to the 4-2-3-1, but maybe keep a more conservative line, especially with your defence. In this formation, I like using more direct wingers, and a poacher up front to get you the goals.

Positional Analysis

Goalkeepers:
Only one choice for the man between the sticks: Hugo Lloris. Spurs and France captain, and one of the better keepers in the world. You also have another decent goalkeeper in Michel Vorm. A bit older (31) that Lloris, I normally don’t keep him around, especially considering his wages (40k), and the fact you can get better and younger keepers for cheap. You also have Thomas Glover, a 17 year-old Australian that start in the U21s, but if nurtured well, has the potential to be a star.

Right Backs:
A strong department in the squad, with Kyle Walker be the first in the picking order. He’s relatively young, and has fantastic attacking and defensive output, and he’s English. Trippier, a new signing from Burnley, will be your backup, an Englishman with very good going forward, but a bit weaker in defensive duties. He never really broke through to the starting XI, and ended up selling him. However, you got 2 great youngsters in the academy, Yedlin and Walker-Peters, both full of potential.

Centre Backs:
The signing of Toby Alderweireld, has given Tottenham defence some needed solidity. Partnering him with Jan Vertonghen, should give you your 2 starting CBs. Wimmer, another new signing will be one of your backups, with a fair bit of potential could challenge for a spot. Fazio, on the other hand, you’ll probably want to sell, considering his wages and age; and the fact you have probably the brightest star of the academy coming through as a CB, Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Left Backs:
2 great options here – Danny Rose and Ben Davies, both incredible young full-backs. Who to start is up to you, but Ben Davies always stood up to me as the best choice, both short and long-term.

Defensive Midfielders:
A lack in depth here. Eric Dier, previously a right-back/centre-back, has been adapted to a CDM in real life, but can play all 3 positons in the game. Up to you where you deploy him, but as CDM he lacked presence, so this is a place where you should strengthen with a new signing.

Central Midfielders:
A position which will definitely cause you headaches, with so much talent to choose from. Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli have been the homewreckers for Spurs’ season so far, both with a bit more emphasis in carrying the ball forward, instead of building-up play. Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason could be choices as well, these more patient and more focused in playmaking, although these may not be as good as the first two.

Right Wingers:
Erik Lamela, which some Spurs’ fans considered a bad buy, has broken through this season and has got great attributes, and will be your starting choice. Andros Townsend will be a great backup and a good choice to have in the bench, considering his pace. Also watch out for 15 year-old wonderkid Marcus Edwards on your U18s.

Attacking Midfielders:
Your only choice here will be the Great Dane, your number 23, Christian Eriksen. Has some unbelievable stats, astonishing free-kicks, and is still very young. Get the best out of him, and the results will show. Mason and Dembele are all capable of coming in as backups.

Left Wingers:
Heung Min-Son, Spurs’ most expensive signing this summer, will most likely be the wisest choice for the left side. The Korean international boasts some great stats, and still has time to develop. But, Nacer Chadli may have a word or two in the line-up, even though is a bit older.

Strikers:
“He’s of our own, he’s of our oooooown, Haaaarry Kane, he’s one of our own”.
The meteoric rise of Harry Kane, was one of the main talking points of last season, and although he has had a slow start to the season, he’s got his boots on right again, and is scoring goals for fun. He should the main man up front for your save. But, make no mistake, this a position where you must strengthen in depth, with Kane being your only real choice. You do have Cleiton N’Jie, which I’ve found to never really excelling in ST.

Weaknesses and Potential Strengthening

Your priority here should be getting a new striker ASAP. In real life, Berahino was Spurs’ top target, and could be one of the options. Gabbiadini, Barbosa, Embolo, et all, are all players you should be looking at.

A new def. midfielder could be a potential sector to be strengthened. Wanyama (another real-life target), probably stands out, but other great options stand out, like Maia, the 2 Benders…

And if you got some spare cash, invest it in a new goalkeeper, getting rid of Vorm, and purchasing a hot prospect, to develop and potentially replacing Lloris in the future.

Summary

So, as you can see, this Spurs’ squad is brimming of young talent, just waiting to be taken to the promised land of Champions League and, who knows, to a BPL title. Especially with a new stadium in the way, the board are expecting a manager to take them to the next level, using those 5-star training facilities, and all the wonderful resources that Spurs will be giving to you, should you succeed.

Good Luck!

English Champions League hopes lie in balance

$

English sides haven't fared too well in the Champions League since Chelsea surprisingly won the competition back in 2012.

Last season there was not a single Premier League representative in the quarter-finals after Chelsea had been eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal by AS Monaco, Manchester City by Barcelona, and Liverpool were dumped out at the group stage.

Progress has been made during the 2015-16 campaign as Manchester City have already confirmed their place in the second round. Chelsea need to avoid defeat at home to FC Porto to progress, whilst three points will see them win the group.

However, it's a lot more difficult for Manchester United and Arsenal if there are to be four Premier League sides in the last 16 this season. Bettingexpert's full UK bookmaker bonus comparison is a good place to start if you are betting on the midweek games, and don't want to get a few free bets while backing your own teams too. United and Arsenal could do with a few bonuses of their own on the pitch this week.

The Red Devils will start the final group stage game in VfL Wolfsburg in second place, only one point above PSV Eindhoven and with the Dutch side winning the head-to-head. It means United need to match PSV's result in their last game, at home to already-eliminated CSKA Moscow.

CSKA would qualify for the Europa League with a victory at the Philips Stadium but that's all the Russian side have to play for. For them that is incentive, a competition they took part in and won back in 2005.

Victory for Manchester United in Germany would see them win the group. To be honest, this German side aren't anything special without Kevin De Bruyne anymore. We've not seen enough from Julian Draxler, and sure they have some individual talent – Andre Schurrle's pace down the left, supported by full-back Ricardo Rodriguez. Centre-back Dante was once linked to United, they also have Brazilian international Luiz Gustavo and target man Bas Dost does score goals. We do like Max Kruse but a good United team would see these off.

Unfortunately for United they've looked below-par themselves under Louis van Gaal. Their 2-1 win at Old Trafford at least gives them some positivity going into the game but we expect it to be a tight one. Will Manchester United progress? We're leaning towards a 'yes'.

Arsenal were beaten in three of their first four group stage matches this season but will still make it to the second round if they win in Olympiacos by a scoreline other than 1-0 or 2-1. That means they need to score at least twice against the Greek champions who have been perfect domestically this season and who won 3-2 at the Emirates back in September.

We had strong hope in Arsene Wenger's side, that was until more injuries were added to the list. Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla's latest injuries are as about as bad as it can get for the Gunners. They weren't too convincing in their 3-1 win over struggling Sunderland at the weekend and with few healthy players to rotate his squad, Wenger will be asking a very lot from a small group of players.

Even the bookmakers don't like their chances, making Arsenal odds-against just to win in Greece. They may need to win by more than one goal which significantly increases the odds too. We'll back the English side to win but qualification to the second round for the Gunners is the most difficult of any of England's four sides this season.

Everton Guide for FM16

So, you’re interested in starting a save with Everton but would like to know what to expect? Good, you’ve come to the right place.

Upon accepting your new role as boss at Goodison Park, you will be greeted by an injury list as long as your arm, small budgets & the unwelcome news that the “bigger” clubs are circling your best players like vultures.

It’s not all bad news however as, once you dig a little deeper, you’ll find a well-balanced squad of seasoned veterans, some of the brightest young talent in the EPL & a youth set-up that should keep your first team stocked for years to come.

Brief History

Formed in 1878, & becoming founding members of the Football League in 1898, no other club has spent more time in the English top flight then Everton.

In their record 112 seasons in the top tier, Everton have won a total of 9 League titles & 5 F.A. Cups (amongst other honours) & have one of the richest histories of any English club.

In recent times they have developed a reputation for un-earthing & developing young talent which has allowed them to punch well above their weight, regularly competing for European qualification against teams with much bigger budgets. Speaking of which.

Budgets

The minimum expectation for the club is to finish in the top half of the league & reach the 6th round of the F.A. Cup. Your reward for agreeing to these expectations? A transfer budget of 2.25M & 31K free wage budget.

If however, you choose to be more ambitious, a Champions League place & an F.A Cup final will see your transfer budget rise to 3.08M & your free wages reach 260K.

A decent jump but is it enough to close the gap on the top 4?

The Squad – Overview

Ok, so once you’ve absorbed the news that the likes of Leighton Baines, Gerard Deulofeu & Muhamed Besic will all begin the campaign injured, you can focus on the fact that, within days, you’ll most likely be receiving multiple bids from the “big boys” for the likes of Ross Barkley, John Stones & Romelu Lukaku. The joys of it all!

If however, you can keep hold of your prized possessions, you will quickly discover that this Everton squad is easily capable of achieving your minimum expectations & perhaps even surpassing them.

The Squad – By Position

Goalkeepers

This is one position you may find yourself asking; Is that enough? Tim Howard is now 36; he’s had an illustrious career but are his best days now behind him? Sadly the answer is yes, they probably are.

Unfortunately it appears your only other option is Spaniard, Joel Robles. Is he an EPL quality goalkeeper? Personally, I don’t think he is which leaves you with a bit of as problem.

Do you gamble on Howard holding on for another year? Or do you dip into the market?

If you decide to make a move, some names worth a mention could be Timo Horn (Release clause: 6.5M) or Geronimo Rulli (Usually able to approach for fee in January)

Central Defenders

Pretty solid here with English international, Phil Jagielka, & wonder kid, John Stones, seemingly your first choice pairing.

Argentinian, Ramiro Funes Mori, is more than capable of stepping in as well if need be & with prospects like Tyias Browning & Brendan Galloway acting as cover, you shouldn’t need to do anything too drastic.

If you would like to add another experienced campaigner, former Villa defender, Ron Vlaar, is available on a free transfer & could definitely do a job for you.

Fullbacks

Baines on the left, Coleman on the right. Simple. One of the best fullback pairings in the league, without a shadow of a doubt.

Backing them up you’ll have names like Brendan Galloway, Bryan Oviedo, Mason Holgate, Jonjoe Kenny &, returning from loan at years end, Luke Garbutt.

If I was to be critical, Seamus Coleman could use a more EPL ready back-up but game time for the younger guys can’t be a bad thing, can it?

Midfield

Another position where you should be fine. Names like Ross Barkley, James McCarthy, Gareth Barry, Tom Cleverly, Muhumed Besic & Darron Gibson should provide you, not only with plenty of depth, but also a variety of tactical options to suit almost any shape & style.

With youngsters such as Ryan Ledson, Keiran Dowell & Liam Welsh coming through, the future is looking bright as well.

Wingers

A tale of two sides. On the right you have names like Deulofeu, Mirallas, Lennon & McGeady.
On the left, just Deulofeu; whose best position may well be on the right, & 33 year old Steven Pienaar; who in all honesty is not quite up to scratch nowadays.

In any case, If you like to play with inside forwards, you’ll easily make do with what you have, as most of your options are capable of switching flanks. If, however, you’re looking for width or creativity you may have to hit the market.

Some possible recruits could include Wellington Nem of Shaktar or Derby’s Tom Ince

Forwards

There can be only one choice as your starting forward, Romelu Lukaku! The Belgian International is a beast & at 22 will only improve.

As back-up you have experience (Arouna Kone, Steven Naismith) & youth (Leandro Rodriguez) is that enough? Well, that’s for you to decide.

If the answer is no, you can always try for the likes of Gabriel Barbosa or Cauley Woodrow from Santos & Fulham respectively.

Squad - Summary

So, as you can see, the squad you will inherit at Goodison is solid & capable.

You’ll have a talented first 11, an excellent crop of youth prospects & a flexible squad capable of adapting to different styles & philosophies.

There are however a few issues you’ll have to address. A lack of depth in certain areas, the on-going attempts to lure your best players away & a crippling injury list, just to name a few.

Assuming you can address these issues though (remembering the small budgets) you could easily be looking at a Euro Cup spot or, with the right mix of luck & skill, even cracking the top 4.

This is where interest in your players could be of use. If you are so inclined, you could easily sell the likes of Barkley, Lukaku & Stones for 30 – 50M a piece & use the funds to build that team of wonder kid’s you’ve always dreamed of. The choice is yours!

Strongest Tactics

Everton have a fairly well rounded squad that could be used in a variety of different ways.

In my opinion though, a 4-2-3-1 seems to suit the squad best.

This formation, for the most part, will allow you to play your best players in their preferred positions & roles, whilst also maintaining a good balance between attack & defence.

A 4-1-2-2-1 may also work well with the midfield anchor allowing your fullbacks to get further forward in the knowledge that the central pair will still have adequate cover from counter attacks.

Conclusion

So, Everton are a squad that face quite a few issues in the beginning.

The lengthy injury list in itself may be enough to turn people away, let alone the prospect of having to constantly protect your best players from the advances of the bigger clubs & keeping everyone happy in doing so.

Don’t be put off though, as once you’ve made it through those first couple of months, you’ll find yourself with a talented squad, reasonable expectations & the flexibility to stick with what you have or sell off some assets & build the team of your dreams. Really, what more could you ask for?

Welcome to the second episode of "Tactic Tuesday" video series for Football Manager 2016 by FullTimeFM.

In this episode, FTFM is showcasing the creation of a counter attacking tactic for the Arsenal squad on FM 2016.

Arsenal have a very creative playmaker in Ozil, with the pace at the top of the pitch with Sanchez, The Ox and Theo, these 4 players will launch counter attacks that will terrify any defense in the world.

Here is a 10 minute video explaining how the tactic works.

3-4-1-2 Counter - FM15 Tactic

Hi Guys. I have come up with this tactic and it is... well brilliant so far.

I started with Barcelona B and I went undefeated in my 1st season.

I was then signed by Borussia Dortmond where I won the Champions League and came 2nd in the League in my 1st season.

In my 2nd Season I won Everything and only lost 2 games in the league.

I then moved to Barcelona as the head coach and I went Undefeated in my 1st Season.

I admit that I am standing on the shoulders of giants with this tactic.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Klopp FM16 Tactics - Ruthless Pressure

Being an avid Reds fan I'm as happy as anyone to see my beloved team turn a page with the arrival of the crazy German. I love the style of play he brings to the table and have done my best to emulate it in FM16.

The main idea is to put the opposition under ruthless pressure in order to catch them out of position and punishing them with fast counters. The false nine drops from his striker position in order to create space for the raumdeuters and attacking cm to exploit.

As most of you can guess, physique and work rate are two key attributes to look for, other than the recommended ones for each role.

Give it a go and let me know about the results.

Footbe Logos 2015 - Exclusive

$

I created the first logos of this pack for the footbe project, which is a football predictions service that Eugene (GS author) initiated 2 years ago. I wanted to make them available for Football Manager since then, but I kept postponing until I had more logos made. The concept behind them is 3-fold:
  • use the same shape for all
  • simplify the original version
  • keep it recognizable when small
We wanted uniform logos that would look great inside our app. FM is an app, so that pretty much applies to it as well.

After a LOT of requests from fmscout members who had seen my work there, the time has finally come to release my logopack for everyone to enjoy.

FAQ

Can I request new logos?
Sure. Post a comment below with your requests, but please understand it might take a while until I release a new version.

What if I don't like a logo?
Feel free to express your opinion about my work. I'll try to use your feedback to improve my logos.

Is there a template I can use to make my own logos in this style?
Actually there isn't. I create all logos from scratch. There's just a white shape I begin with.

I want to help make more logos for this pack.
Thanks, but no thanks. This is a pack I don't want any help with. Unless you're Patres10 (head of the fmscout gfx team), it's highly unlikely I'll accept your creations for inclusion in my pack.

This pack is small. When will you make a megapack with thousands of logos?
Probably never. I'll keep making new logos and releasing new versions from time to time, but don't expect to see thousands of logos here. It's not easy to create the logos in this style, which makes the process rather slow.

Schalke Guide for FM16

$
0
0

Brief History

Schalke were formed in Gelsenkirchen, Germany in 1904. They enjoyed their most successful spell between 1934 and 1942, winning 6 National Titles and one Tschammerpokal. In 1972 they won the DFB-Pokal. In the 1980’s they suffered three relegations to the second division, but have been in the Bundesliga since 1992.

They lifted their first major trophy for 25 years when they won the 1997 UEFA Cup Final against Inter Milan. Since then they’ve had most success in the cup competitions by winning the Pokal four times, the Supercup once and the now defunct Ligapokal once.

They finished as Bundesliga runners-up as recently as 2010.

Finances & Budget

Schalke are the third richest club in Germany and were rated as the 14th richest club in the world in 2015. They start with £66m in the bank and can offer you a decent transfer budget of between £14m and £17m depending on your goals for the season. Leaving them set on minimum will give you the best chances of hitting your target while still getting £14m and £72k to make one to two signings. These goals are very achievable. They are expected to make big financial gains in the first season, so you should expect a good transfer kitty in season two.

Expectations

In the first season, you should really be trying to get into those Champions League places. The media are predicting a 5th place finish in the Bundesliga. With the right signings and a good run, you have a realistic chance of picking up a cup.

Strongest Formations

Everyone has their own preferences to the systems they’d like to use. Below are some of the shapes that I think would work best. The roles and duties have not been assigned and are just a graphical representation.

4-4-1-1

Two banks of four with one man behind the striker.

It offers good options going forward and with the players available in the squad, I’d say this is one of your best options. Schalke have a lot of pace on the flanks and you should be able to use this to your advantage.

4-1-4-1

Another great option for Schalke due to the midfield options. The attacking midfielder is replaced by a defensive shield. A great option for counter attacking. Still a threat on the flanks and with the defensive midfielder in front of the defenders, you’ve got that added security.

4-2-3-1

The 4231 pretty much replaced the 442 in recent years. It gives a lot of passing options high up the pitch as so many players are in advanced positions. I prefer to use one winger and one inside forward in a 4231 and it gives you width on one side and a possible overload option on the other. Choupo-Moting could fill the inside forward option if required.

You could move your two central midfielders to deeper positions if required.

Positional Analysis

Goalkeepers:
Schalke have a great first choice goalkeeper in Ralf Fährmann. At only 26 years old, he’s still got his best goalkeeping year ahead of him. Timon Wellenreuther is out on loan the first season. He’s 19 and has a great future ahead of him. Fabian Giefer will be a solid backup for the first season. You have two great goalkeeping options for the near future and it’s not a position I’d be looking to strengthen.

Right Back:
Junior Caiçara joined Schalke from Ludogerets in the summer. He’s a great attacking full back, although his defensive attributes are lacking. He has pace and enough energy to run up and down the flank. His crossing ability definitely means he’s a good option to have in the team. Atsuto Uchida starts the season injured, but offers a more solid defensive alternative to Caiçara, but still has plenty of pace if you were to break on the counter. You also have Sascha Riether who will certainly do the job if required, but as soon as Uchida is back, I’d be looking to move him on.

Left Back:
Sead Kolasinac is another good full back, but offers more defensively than he does in attacking situations. Again, he’s very quick, strong and is good in the tackle. Dennis Aogo can play in many positions but to me, he’d be your next best left back option.

Centre Back:
Schalke have three very good centre backs at the start of the game. Benedikt Höwedes, Matija Nastasic and Joël Matip are all international quality. There’s also backup options of Kaan Ayhan and Marvin Friedrich who can develop nicely if given game time. Not a position I’d be in a hurry to upgrade. Be aware that teams will be after Matip though. I’ve loaded up a few saves and it’s happened each time. You can raise a lot of funds through selling him and still have a good centre back pairing.

Central Midfielders:
I’ve decided to put all central midfielders in one group. There’s lots and lots of options here. Leon Goretzka can play in several positions. He’s only 20 but has the potential to be your best player, he’s the first name on the team sheet for me. He can pass, he’s quick, he’s good on the ball. I’d say his best role is as a deep lying playmaker or a roaming playmaker. Johannes Geis is a new signing at Schalke and a very good player in the making. Only 21 years old, he has great passing ability and is excellent at set pieces. Roman Neustädter is a good defensive or box to box midfielder that would likely be a back up option. Maxi Meyer is your best attacking midfield option, he’s only 19 and already has some excellent attributes. He’ll need a bit of work to become a top class player, but he’s certainly one that you can’t ignore. Goretzka offers an alternative attacking midfield option. I’ve missed out Pierre-Emile Højbjerg as he’s only on loan, but he can certainly do a great job for you in the season that he’s there.

Wide Midfielders:
Leroy Sané is your golden boy in the wide midfield positions. He’s only 19 and again, he has bags of pace and potential. Develop him right and you’ve got a world class winger on your hands. Sidney Sam is also a pretty good winger with bags of pace. He’s not someone I’d be relying on long term. Maxim Choupo-Moting can play on either side of midfield either as a winger or an inside forward. Meyer and Goretzka can also play wide if required. You’ve got Christian Clemens on loan at Mainz in the first season, but he’d be a backup at best.

Strikers:
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is your most experience striker and probably one of your best known players. He can score goals, but he lacks any pace and is quite selfish. Franco di Santo is a player I remember from his days at Wigan. He’s new at Schalke and is actually a pretty decent forward. He can score goals, has good pace and works hard for the team. Choupo-Moting is your next best option in attack, but is more of a creator than a prolific goalscorer. You also have Donis Avdijaj who’s out on loan at Sturm Graz. He’s young and a bit raw, but with game time, will come good.

Weaknesses & Potential Strengthening

I’d say the weakest part of your team is the winger positions. Your first options are pretty good, but there’s nobody at the club to threaten them for their place. I’d definitely be looking to purchase one good quality winger. Sidney Sam is good, but not one for the long term.

I’d say after that, I’d be looking to offload Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Controversial, but I always try to think long-term when it comes to a save. He’s 31, his wages are high (£96k p/w) and his value is only going to drop. He’s a good finisher, but doesn’t offer much else. You could probably get about £5m for him and with the saving in wages, you could put some of that money in the transfer kitty. I’d make sure you can get a suitable striker before you sell him on.

The only other signing I’d be looking to make, is a good box to box midfielder, someone who is a good all round option in the middle. It will depend on your remaining finances as I don’t think this is essential.

I’d look at offloading Kevin-Prince Boateng as you have better options and he’s on a large wage. Marco Höger could also leave due to having better options available.

Conclusion

Overall, there’s a fantastic base at Schalke. They have several good young players in the first team that can be with you for years to come. With the right development path, you have the core of a title winning team as soon as you start your save. You’ll need to add the final pieces to the puzzle and have some luck along the way, but I think you can have a very enjoyable save with this team.

The team has great facilities and if you push the board to upgrade them, you’ll have the best available.

Schalke are known for bringing through top class players and would be an ideal candidate for a home grown challenge or for someone looking to break the dominance of Bayern and Dortmund.
